LOLA BLANCHE DOSTER
Lola Blanche Doster, 91, died January 19, 2014 at Moore County Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.

She is preceded in death by her husband Floyd Doster, and ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Doster-Erpelding and son-in-law Nicholas Erpelding.

Mrs. Doster was born in Texas and lived many years in Georgia, Alabama and Indiana. An expert seamstress, she sewed as a trade, and for enjoyment throughout her life!

A private family remembrance will be held.

LAYTON L. LINEBERRY
Layton L. Lineberry, 77, of Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mt. Road, Siler City died Friday, January 24, 2014 at Moses H.Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Mr. Lineberry was born in Chatham County on March 24, 1936, the son of David M. and Sercy Kimery Lineberry. Layton was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and The Silk Hope Ruritan Club, where he served on the ice cream committee. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and the Chatham County Live Stock Association. “Strawberry” retired from Collins & Aikman. He enjoyed farming, fishing, mowing and snow sledding. Layton found pleasure in cooking and Sunday luncheons with family. He always kept his vehicles clean and could be found watching western movies and game shows or kicking up his heels to a dance. Layton was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Johnson Lineberry; his parents; brother, Homer Lineberry, and a sister, Betty Lou Caldwell.

He is survived by three daughters, Pamela McPherson and husband Ronnie “Mac” of Snow Camp, Rachel Cox of Siler City, Karen Edwards of Siler City; brother, Elvin Lineberry of Siler City; grandchildren, Chris McPherson and wife Kim, Donna Houtchings and husband Steve, Crystal Richardson and husband Jeremiah, Joy Elfahla and husband Karim, Brittany Gobble and husband Benjamin, Dustin Cox; great-grandchildren, Aulden and Kailyn Richardson, Alex, Austin and Madison Elfahla, and Xavier Gobble.

The family received friends Monday, January 27, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Dickerson and Keith Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, NC 27344or the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

EDNA DICKERSON BARBER
Edna Dickerson Barber, 77, of Goldston-Glendon Road, Goldston died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Barber was born In Granville County on August 18, 1936, the daughter of John Thomas and Fannie (Faucette) Dickerson. Edna attended Antioch Baptist Church. She was retired after 48 years of service from Townsends where she worked as a hatchery control specialist. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steve Barber; brothers, William “Bill” Dickerson, Walter Dickerson and sister, Thelma Ann Dickerson.

She is survived by her husband:, Mosley Barber of the home; one son, Dennis Barber and wife Wendy of Newport, NC; sisters, Betty Sue Crews of Oxford, Jenny Russell of Creedmoor, NC, Jane Bridges of Franklinton, NC, Maryanna Oldham of Goldston, NC; two brothers, Thomas Dickerson of Sanford, NC, Tony Dickerson of Franklinton, NC; grandchildren, Sean Allen Barber, Kevin Ray Barber, Jaimie Melissa Barber; and a great granddaughter, Krista Gail Barber.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Griffith and Rev. Mike Garner officiating.

MITZI GAY HOWARD
Mitzi Gay Howard, age 48 of Durham, NC passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Duke Medical Pavilion.

Graveside services will be held on January 26 at 2 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City. Following the service there will be a celebration of life at Virlie’s Grill in Pittsboro from 3 to 5 p.m.

Mitzi was born April 24, 1965 to the late Jerry Howard and Phyllis Howard in Pittsboro, N.C.

She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Graley; mother, Phyllis Howard; step-father, Allen Brady; brother, Grand Howard; brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Laurice Howard; step-sister, Lisa O’Connor; step-brother, Rodney Brady and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

WILBERT JONES
Wilbert Jones, 94, of Bennett, died Friday, (01-10-2014) at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, (01-12-2014), at Bennett Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Wilbert was a native of Chatham County, a retired poultry hauler/owner, a farmer and owner/operator of Jones Jewelers in Robbins. He was a member of Bennett Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lydia Ann Powers Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mildred Maness Jones; daughters, Marjorie Maness of Bennett, Mary Ann Murray of Sanford; sons, Richard Jones of Ramseur, Rodger Jones of Bear Creek; six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bennett Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 91, Bennett, NC 27208.

MAXINE FRANCES REEVES
Maxine Frances Reeves, 84, of Greensboro, died Friday, (01-17-2014) at Camden Place Health and Rehab in Greensboro.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (01-23-2014) at Fall Creek Baptist Church.
Miss Reeves was a native of Chatham County and a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Sears and Roebuck.

There were no immediate survivors.
A time of remembrance will be at Maxine’s residence on Lawndale Drive in Greensboro at 2 p.m. Thursday

CHESTER DAVIS PATTERSON
Chester Davis Patterson, 68, died Friday, (01-17-2014) at Central Carolina Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, (01-19-2014) at 2 p.m. at Hillview Christian Assembly Church with Pastor Ray Bodin and Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating. Burial followed at Lee Memory Gardens.

He was a native of Harnett County, son of the late Clyde Hasty and Janie Elizabeth Christian Patterson. He attended Hillview Christian Church and worked for Spanco and Parkdale Textile Mills in Sanford.

Surviving relatives include his wife Annette Elizabeth Lawrence Patterson; two step-sons, Glen Byrd of Broadway, Leslie Lee Byrd of Sanford; sisters, Judy Kelly, Charlotte Uzzell, both of Sanford; and three step-grandchildren.

BERNIECE “BUNK” HINSHAW
Berniece “Bunk” Hinshaw, 93, of Siler City died Monday, (01-20-2014) at Siler City Center.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, (01-26-2014) at 3 p.m. at Bethel Friends Meeting, 2519BethelFriends Road, Asheboro with David Hobson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 3 p.m.

Ms. Hinshaw was born in Alamance County on July 10, 1920, the daughter of Harrison and Margaret (Pike) Hinshaw. Bunk was a member of Bethel Friends Meeting She had worked at A J Schneierson and was a floral designer, working at Friendly Florist, B & B Florist and Beckie’s Boutique. She served as a councilor at Quaker Lake, a youth Sunday School teacher and a 4-H Club leader. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and Clinton Hinshaw and a sister, Glenna Blair. She is survived by a brother, Zim Hinshaw of Asheboro. Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

LEE POTTER
Lee Potter, 88, died Friday (01-17-2014) at his home at Croasdile Village in Durham.

Arrangements will be announced through the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

DOROTHY COMPTON SIMPSON
Chapel Hill- Dorothy Compton Simpson, 97, died Sunday (01-19-2014), at her Carol Woods residence.

Arrangements will be announced through the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

SWANNIE PATTERSON
Swannie Patterson of Broadway died Monday, (01-20-2014) at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

JACK BOYD BRISTOL
CMSGT (Retired) Jack Boyd Bristol, 74, of Brown Street, Pittsboro, departed this life peacefully at home with his family, Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

Mr. Bristol was born in Durham County, August 22, 1939 to the late Jack Bristol and Essie Mitchell Crittenden. Jack entered the U.S. Air Force August of 1957 and served for 29 years, achieving the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant/E-9 and Wing Senior Enlisted Advisor. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maxine Thrift Bristol, of the home; his sons, Mark and Martha Bristol of Pittsboro, Michael and Melissa Bristol of Ft. Knox, KY; along with his grandchildren, Wayne Bristol and Ashlie Whitted of Pittsboro, Sara and Gra’ Parker of Holly Springs, Brian Bristol of Aurora, CO, Hope Bristol of Aurora, CO and Leland Bristol of Ft. Knox, KY.

A service to honor his life was held at Emmaus Baptist Church, 2430 Silk Hope Gum Springs Road, Pittsboro on Friday, January 17, 2PM with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. A reception followed in the fellowship hall. A private committal service will commence at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to: UNC Hospice, 480 Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312or Emmaus Baptist Church Building Fund, 2430 Silk Hope Gum Springs Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

The arrangements for Mr. Bristol’s service are under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service and Cremation of Pittsboro.

JESSE OWEN FEARRINGTON
Mr. Jesse Owen Fearrington, 94, formerly of Pittsboro, died at his residence in Charlotte, early Friday morning, January 10, 2014. Son of the late John Bunyan Fearrington and Annie Jessica Owens, Jesse was born May 20, 1919 and would spend a big part of his life farming and making a home with his wife, the late Sarah Willa Drew. In 1973, he exchanged the point of the plow for the rudder of a ship and started selling Viking boats and enjoying time on the water, deep sea fishing. Later in life he developed various properties with his friend Earl Thomas.

Jesse was a 32nd degree Mason and was active in CHICO – the Chapel Hill Investment Club. He served on the North Carolina and Chatham County Soil and Water Conservation Commissions, The Pittsboro Central Carolina Bank and Trust Board and was President of the Dairy Council for the Burlington-Durham-Raleigh area. He served on the Chatham County Planning Board and was its chairperson for six years. Jesse was a man of integrity and one with a sweet disposition. This quiet man spoke few words, but was always there to help out those burdened or in need. In addition to his wife and parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his brother Edwin.

Surviving Jesse are his daughter, Willa Anne Fearrington of North Palm Beach, FL; his son, Jesse (Barbara) Fearrington, Jr. of Charlotte; his granddaughter, Sarah (Tom) Ellis of Athens, GA; his grandson, John Fearrington of Raleigh; and his great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Crews and William.

A service to honor the life Mr. Jesse Fearrington was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 269 Manns Chapel Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church or the charity of your choosing.

Arrangements for Mr. Fearrington are under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service and Cremation of Pittsboro.

MILDRED BRAFFORD COVERT
Mildred Brafford Covert, 91, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living in Pittsboro. She was born January 1, 1923 in Chatham County to the late Nellie Maude Parrish and Edward Roy Brafford Sr. She was married to the late John Royal Covert Sr. on March 30, 1940. A true and faithful Christian, Mildred was the oldest living member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

She is survived and loved by her daughter, Ethel Covert Lindley of Siler City; son, John R. Covert Jr. and daughter, Brenda Covert Gunter, both of Pittsboro; sister, Elsie Jones of Siler City; as well as ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Royal Covert Sr.; daughter, LaVan Covert Gunnels; sister, Virginia Johnson; four brothers, Howard Brafford, Bill Brafford, Rev. R.H. Brafford, and Edward Roy Brafford.

A celebration of Mildred’s life was held at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 7019 Pleasant Hill Church Road, Siler City, at 11 a.m..Monday, January 20, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church or Community Hospice of Siler City.

The family would like to thank the employees of Cambridge Hills Assisted Living for the excellent care provided to our mother.

DENNIS NATHAN BUNKER, JR.
Dennis Nathan Bunker Jr., 83, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014, at The Lutheran Home of Trinity Oaks after a brief illness. His wife and family were by his side. Mr. Bunker was born June 20, 1930, in Surry County, the son of the late Dennis Nathan and Hero Stone Bunker.

He was a graduate of Bells High School, class of 1948, and attended Catawba College. He retired after owning Bunker’s Bookstore and Bunker Family Properties. He was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church, Salisbury Elks Lodge, and a Boy Scout Troop leader. He also served Meals on Wheels.

A great-grandson of Eng Bunker, one of the original Siamese twins, he was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Rise Bunker Greene on April 30, 2006 and grandson Rufus Alexander Lewis on October 21, 1990. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Betty Tripp Bunker; children, Dennis Nathan Bunker III and wife Kathy of Charlotte, Starla Bunker Bennett and husband Riney of Santa Fe, NM and Walton Tripp Bunker and wife Cindy of Lexington and grandchildren Daniel Latigo Lewis, Kristen Louise Shue, Robert Kye Bunker, Colin Tripp Bunker, and Carson Davis Bunker and four great-grandchildren; siblings, Bunker White of Raleigh, Helen Bunker Stone of Chapel Hill, Homer Stone Bunker of Memphis, TN, Mary Ann Blanton of Bear Creek, and Jeremiah Stone Bunker (deceased).

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday January 19, 2014, at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 1620 Brenner Avenue, Salisbury, NC 28144with Reverend Kellie Browne officiating. Burial followed at City Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Bunker’s memory to John Calvin Presbyterian Church at the above address. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Bunker family.

BETTY HARRIS REID
Betty Harris Reid, 75, of 24 Pine Forest Drive, Siler City died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Lisalotte Care Home, Pittsboro.

Mrs. Reid was born in Chatham County on December 1, 1938, the daughter of Paul M. and Lizzie Mae (Hackney) Bare. Betty was a graduate of Silk Hope High School. She was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being a homemaker, flower arranging and directing weddings. Betty loved people and enjoyed her part-time job at Friendly Florist and later at Family Pharmacy. She liked to play golf, eating at Johnson’s Restaurant and loved to spoil her grandsons. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Reid, Sr. and her parents.

She is survived by two sons, Robert H. Reid, Jr. and wife Jamie of Sanford, Stan Reid and wife Lea of Siler City; sisters, Faye Moses and husband Sonny of Pittsboro, Paulette Lazar and husband Stuart of Siler City; brother, Jimmy Bare and wife Ann of Siler City; grandsons, Asa and Joseph Reid; many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 24, 2014 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church 4436 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City. The funeral will be Friday, January 24, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Burris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, Siler City.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
