ELTON ALEXANDER PATTERSON, SR.
Mr. Elton Alexander Patterson, Sr., 84, of Cameron, died Thursday, (10-10-2013) at his home.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, (10-13-2013) at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Mr. Elvin Ray Moore, Sr. officiating.

Mr. Patterson was born in Harnett County, on July 30, 1929 to the late Henry S. Patterson and Bertha Calcutt Patterson. He was also preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Marie Mays Patterson; sisters, Olga Mae Dupree, Viola Patterson; and brother Thomas Gilbert Patterson, Sr. He was a sheet metal worker in the heating and air conditioning business. He served our country in the United States Army 82nd Airborne.

Surviving are sons, Alton Wayne Patterson of Bulls Gap, TN, Kenneth Wayne Patterson, Sr. of the home, Elton Alexander Patterson, Jr. of Cameron; daughters, Debby Patterson of the home, Annette Patterson Burgess of Sanford, Kimberly Marie Patterson of Cameron; seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

DORIS CLINE McFANN
L. Doris (Cline) McFann at 92, on June 30, 2013, peacefully joined her Savior after a final battle with cancer. Born Lillian Doris Cline, November 5, 1920 in LaGrange, Georgia to Dewey and Lillian (Hendon) Cline. At age 2 moved to Durham, North Carolina. After high school, took the North Carolina state merit exams placing 83rd in the state. She worked as a state employee, becoming part of the Federal Civil Service during WW II and transferred to the army hospital at Camp Butner as a medical stenographer and librarian. After the war, she met Eugene “Mac” McFann, who was being discharged through Butner, after serving four years in the Army in the U.S. and Europe. They were married in January, 1946 and returned to his home in Ohio; later moved to Michigan, where they raised three children, Deborah, Michael, and Candace. Returned to NC for retirement, settling in the Chatham County countryside; enjoying warm weather (she never liked Michigan winters), family, friends and her two dogs. Her Brown’s Chapel Church “family” helped her through good and hard times, including the death of her husband.Doris was a survivor experiencing many miracles in her lifetime. Born premature, not expected to live; survived breast cancer at 67; pancreatic cancer at 71; another form of breast cancer at 87, which returned at 92. She spent her final three years in Michigan with family.

She enjoyed adventure – including flying lessons early in life; traveling, she was able to see much of the US, including Alaska; reading, knitting, watercolor, crafts, solving puzzles and working/playing with the computer (purchased at age 71).

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Eugene “Mac” McFann, parents Dewey and Lillian (Hendon) Cline; sister, Eloise (Cline) Ross and brother-in-law Wayne Ross; brother Douglas Cline and sister-in-law Joanne (Graham) Cline, and brother John Cline.

Surviving are her three children: Deborah (Pat) McCaffrey; Michael McFann/Anne; Candace (Marty) Raymond; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Mary (Nichols) Cline, and beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2013, 11 a.m. at the Brown’s Chapel Church, Pittsboro, NC.

ROGER FRANKLIN ROBINSON, SR.

Roger Franklin Robinson, Sr., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 4, 2013 in the loving care of his family.

Roger was born March 26, 1932 to the late Baxter and Cassie Mae Robinson in Winston-Salem and was one of five children. He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Rachel D. Phillips.

He enjoyed playing and coaching baseball. He was a hard worker who was known for excellent work as a crane operator. He received his 60-year certificate with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 147. Robbie was also the Superintendent of Ford Pile Foundation for 50 years.

In 2003, he married Ruby Gaines, combining their two families.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Ruby; six children, Roger Jr. (Dana), Mickey Gaines (Dottie), Dianna Dickens (Tommy), Mike (Debbie), Delly, Darrell Gaines (Suzanne); three sisters, Edna Hutchins, Barbara Moody, Jessie McDaniel; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Viewing was held Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 6-8 p.m.. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. All services were held at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, VA.

DAVID LEROY DIXON
David Leroy Dixon of Guilford County passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013.

A native of Chatham County, he retired from Mechanical Specialty. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Dixon and a grandson, David Holland.

Survivors include his son, Terry Dixon and wife Cathy; daughters, Debbie Browning and husband “Bo“, Sheila Allison; grandson, Jason Myers and two great-grandsons; sisters, Pauline Flynt, Tilly Brannock; and brother, Alton Dixon.

The Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, 5120 Burlington Road, Greensboro, NC 27405.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank the many friends and the church family for the calls, cards, visits and prayers.

HAROLD KEITH HART
Mr. Harold Keith Hart, 71, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at UNC Hospital on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Siler City. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 13 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Faw and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.

Born August 6, 1942 in Siler City, Harold was the son of the late Gurman Archie and Hazel Dunlap Hart. Harold made his mark in the family business, Hart Furniture. The store was started by Gurman in 1952 and Harold started working as a teenager in 1956. After Gurman retired, Harold took over the business, expanding it nationally and internationally.

A devoted husband, father, Dopsie and friend, he was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Rachel Allred Sunday school class. He also served as a trustee and finance committee member.

Harold served his local community and state in many ways, including: member and vice chair of Siler City Planning Board and Board of Adjustments, board member RBC Arena Centennial Authority, Chatham Hospital Board, N. C. State Health Coordinating Council, Planters/Centura/RBC Bank Board, Rotary Club, member of Board of Directors, Board Member of Chamber of Commerce, Member of NC State Wolfpack Club.

Harold was an avid gun collector.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Faye Self Hart of the home; daughter, Lisa Hart Stout and husband Ray, of Siler City; son, Bradley Harold Hart of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; grandchildren, Arielle Raye Stout and Nolan Hart Stout.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their “family” of employees at Hart Furniture for standing by us. Thanks to special caregiver and friend, Jill Humphries, and another “angel” on the UNC Staff, Dr. John.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to The V Foundation, 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513 or to First Baptist Church, 314 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

JEANNIE RIDDLE MOODY
Jeannie Riddle Moody, 62, of Siler City, lost her long fight with cancer on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at UNC Hospitals.

Mrs. Moody was born in Durham County on March 5, 1951, the daughter of John and Emily (Bullock) Riddle. She attended Edward Hill Friends Meeting and was a Licensed Practical Nurse. Jeannie loved nursing and helping people in need and never met a stranger. She enjoyed traveling and working in her flowers. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Alice Connor.

Survivors include her husband, Monte Moody; daughter, Marci Moody of Silk Hope; son, Andy Moody of Carthage; and a sister, Edna McNeill of Pittsboro.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.

JAMES RAY GILLILAND

James Ray Gilliland, 88, of Siler City died Friday, October 11, 2013 at Siler City Center. Mr. Gilliland was born in Chatham County on July 6, 1925, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Lila (Dixon) Gilliland. He was a farmer and enjoyed raising cows, carpentry work and helping in the community, no matter the need. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Brady Gilliland; his parents; sister and brothers, Dorothy Marley, Eunice Moore, Mary Dunn, Bill and Howard Gilliland.

He is survived by three sisters, Shirley G. Edmisten and husband Burl of Bear Creek, Mozelle G. Fields of Siler City, Allene G. Amos of Monticello, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Monday, October 14, 2013 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City, and at other times at the home of Shirley Edmisten, 1575 Oakley Church Road, Bear Creek. The funeral was held Monday, October 14, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Shutt and Rev. Eddie Ellison officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 108 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home assisted the family.

THETA SMITH KING
Mrs. Theta Smith King, 78, of Hot Springs, AR died at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC on October 8, 2013 as a result of long term injuries from a car accident in June.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Daniel King; son and daughter-in-law, JB “Charlie” King, and Tracy, of Pittsboro; granddaughters, Madison and Catherine King; and a sister, Velma Smith Rongey of Liddieville, LA.

Mrs. King was cremated; no services are planned at this time.

Arrangements are under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service & Cremation in Pittsboro.

WILLIAM BOYDEN FESPERMAN
William Boyden Fesperman, 84, died October 9, 2013 at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living in Pittsboro.

Bill was born to the late John Thomas Boyden Fesperman and Katherine Novella Moose Fesperman, February 18, 1929, in Rocky Mount, NC. He graduated from J.W. Cannon High School and received a B.S. from Davidson College and went on to receive a Masters from Springfield College. He entered military service as a Second Lieutenant at Ft. Benning, GA and served in Japan and Korea as First Lieutenant assigned to the Infantry, 8th Calvary Regiment.

Bill followed in his father’s footsteps by making the YMCA his life’s work. He held many positions with the YMCA working in facilities in Atlanta, GA, Wichita, KS, Burlington, NC, Charleston, SC, Asheville, NC, and finally retiring as the Executive Director of the Cannon Memorial YMCA, where his father was the original Executive Director in Kannapolis, NC. After retiring in 1991, he and his wife Jean continued to assist others through the YMCA by making a year- long trip to Thailand and working with the YMCA in Bangkok. Bill also was a master fundraiser and put those skills to good use while on the Boards of the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theater (SART) and Children First to name a few.

Bill is survived by his wife Jean and their four children: Kathy Brown of Columbia, SC, Jim Fesperman of Durham, John Fesperman of Pittsboro, Martha Spradley of Oviedo, FL; and seven grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. Friends may visit with the family after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church of Asheville or Pittsboro Presbyterian Church of Pittsboro.

REV. GARLAND LEWIS FOUSHEE
Rev. Garland Lewis Foushee, age 89, of Moncure, died Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Duke University Hospital.

He was born in Lee County on January 7, 1924 to the late Marvin Carl Foushee and Lessie Byrd Foushee. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Elton B. Foushee, Carl Clifton Foushee, Malcom Ross Foushee, Russell Foushee, John Vernon Foushee and sister Bronnie Myers Acorn.

Rev. Foushee attended Campbell College, Wake Forest College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and finished his degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of East Sanford Baptist Church in Sanford for 14 years. Rev. Foushee also pastored in the following North Carolina locations;Turkey, Maysville, Henderson, Zebulon, Beulaville and Fairmont. In 1991 he retired and returned to the family home place in Chatham County. He was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Henderson Foushee; son, Kenneth Foushee and wife Nancy of Sanford; two daughters, Karen Foushee Cameron and husband Jimmy of Sanford, Beth Foushee Brafford and husband Jeff of Broadway; two sisters Reda Partin and husband Fred of Moncure, Coleen Boone of Pittsboro; three grandchildren, Kensey Foushee Erkes and husband Jason of La Grange, Karey Foushee of Sanford and Will Brafford of Broadway.

The family received friends Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 3 to 4 p.m. at East Sanford Baptist Church fellowship hall. The funeral service followed at 4 p.m. with Rev. Robbie Gibson and Rev. Julian Motley officiating. Burial was held at Gum Springs Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Jackie Franks officiating.

Memorials may be made to Gum Springs Baptist Church, 227 Gum Springs Church Road, Moncure, NC 27559 or East Sanford Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 609, Sanford, NC 27331.

BETTIE JO MORGAN
Bettie Jo Morgan, 88, of Ruby, died Sunday, October 13, 2013.

She was born June 30, 1925 in Bonlee, to the late Charles and Edna Webster. She married Daniel J. Morgan in 1948 in Detroit. He died on February 22, 1986.

Mrs. Morgan graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville NC and was a school teacher for a short time in the 1960’s at Yale High School. She was a member of the Smiths Creek Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and a long time devoted member and former church treasurer of Ruby United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Gary (Linda) Morgan of Canton; a grandson, Bradford Morgan of Salt Lake City, UT; a granddaughter, Stephanie Morgan of Okemos; four first cousins, Russell Webster of Siler City, Patricia Webster Walters, Judy Webster Barber and Kathryn Webster Garrett, all of Bonlee; and many other cousins and their children. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Joseph Morgan in 1976.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207, with Rev. Womack Keck officiating. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery, Rockingham.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N.Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

Memorials may be made to Ruby United Methodist Church or Smiths Creek Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
