ALF NELSON EVANS
Alf Nelson Evans, 75, of Siler City died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Evans was born January 4, 1938 in Long Beach, NY, the son of Ernest Frank and Ruth (Nelson) Evans. He was self employed as a maintenance worker.

He is survived by his brother, Ernest F. Evans and wife, Deirdre of Siler City; sister, Nancy Evans Deutsch and husband, Robert of Sun City, AZ.; nephews, Ernest Evans and Robert Deutsch; nieces, April Coldren and Sandra Deutsch and a lifelong friend, Freddy Elmer.

A reception in celebration of the life of Mr. Evans will be held Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of Pine Glades Apartments.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

CLARA JONES LOPOSSAY
Clara Jones Lopossay of Siler City died peacefully, Monday, October 14, 2013 at Siler City Center.

Mrs. Lopossay was born in Chatham County on July 13, 1924, the daughter of Manley and Mossie (Hicks) Jones. She was a member of Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church and The Adult Sunday School Class. Clara was retired from Chatham County Schools Food Service. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, yard work, sitting on her front porch and cooking for her family. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, James David Lopossay, one brother and three sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Stout and husband Larry of Ramseur; son, Gary Lopossay and wife Kay of Bear Creek; one brother, Leland Jones of Asheboro; granddaughters, Jamie (Mike) Fogleman of Liberty, Shelley (Patrick) Stover of Asheboro, Allayna (Stephen) Cockman of Bear Creek; great-grandchildren, Blakeley Fogleman, Brody Fogleman, both of Liberty, Andrew Stover, and Keegan Stover, both of Asheboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Friday, October 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, 17475 US 64 W, Siler City. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Siler City Center for their loving care and compassion.

EULA WILLIAMS HICKS
Eula Williams Hicks, 74 of Staley, died Tuesday, (10-01-2013) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, (10-05-2013) at Shady Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael Horton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hicks was born October 7, 1938, a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lula Wright Williams, and brothers, Paul Ray Williams and Clarence “Poodle” Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Hicks of the home; daughters, Debbie Cox of Ramseur, Rhonda Evans of Asheboro; sons, Doug Hicks of Ramseur, Darrell Hicks of Advance; sisters, Louise Wright of Staley, Eva Brady, Lucy Moore, both of Asheboro; brother, Wade Williams of High Point; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorials donations can be made to: Shady Grove Baptist Church or Shady Grove Baptist Church Family Life Center, 6377 Old Staley Road, Staley, NC 27355.

JAMES A. “JIM” BREWER
James A. “Jim” Brewer, 80, of Bear Creek, died Wednesday, (10-02-2013) at his home.

A graveside memorial service was held Saturday, (10-05-2013) at 3 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Mr. Brewer was born in Chatham Count yon August 29, 1933, the son of Robert F. and Bessie (Jessup) Brewer. He attended Brush Creek Baptist Church, was a self employed carpenter and a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean conflict. Jim was preceded in death by a son, Anthony “Tony” Brewer and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Elkins) Brewer; daughters, Kaye B. Scott of Siler City, Paula B. Thomas of Raleigh; sisters, Ann B. Thrift, Joan B. Webster, Merlyn B. Moody, all of Siler City, Judy Freeman of Pleasant Garden, Priscilla Thompson of Liberty; brothers, H. L. Brewer of Bear Creek, Robert Brewer, Jr. of Asheboro; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

DONALD “DON” WRENN CAMPBELL
Donald “Don” Wrenn Campbell, 69, of Franklinville died Friday (10-04-2013) at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, (10-06-2013) at Franklinville United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Gunter and Rev. Steven Cox officiating.

A native of Chatham County, Don was a retired barber, owner of Don’s Barber Shop and a member of the First Baptist Church, Franklinville.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Jones Campbell of the home; daughter, Misty Lynn Capps of Franklinville; son, Gary Scott Campbell of Asheboro; brother, Charles T. Campbell and wife, Janice of Siler City; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.

EVELYN REEVES GENTRY
Evelyn Reeves Gentry, 84, died Saturday, (10-05-2013), at Liberty Commons Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.

RACHEL COLLEEN ALLRED
Rachel Colleen Allred, 89, of Greensboro, died Thursday, (10-03-2013), at Wesley Long Hospital.

Graveside services were held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Gray’s Chapel United Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Donna Smith officiating.

Rachel was born June 27, 1924, in Siler City, the daughter of Charlie and Ollie Allred. She worked with the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement. She served as president of the local chapter of the National Association of Internal Revenue Employees and president of the local chapter of the National Treasury Employees Union, where she was recognized as a regional and national leader.

Rachel was an active member of Hinshaw United Methodist Church and held a variety of leadership positions. She sang in the Chancel Choir and enjoyed the Worship Band. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charlie in 2011.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hinshaw United Methodist Church, 4501 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC 27407.

JIMMIE LUTTERLOH PHILLIPS
Jimmie Lutterloh Phillips, 75, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Gulf, died Thursday, (09-26-2013), at home.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, (10-09-2013), at Gulf Presbyterian Church.

He was the son of William Lacy and Annie Morris Phillips and graduate of Goldston High School and the Cincinnati College of Embalming.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Lacy Phillips, and a sister, Jane Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Phillips; a daughter, Christie Lryons; mother, Annie Morris Phillips of Sanford; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Gulf Presbyterian Church, PO Box 206, Gulf, NC 27256.

MARY FRANCES BLAIR PICKETT
Mary Frances Blair Pickett of Southport, formerly of Siler City died Tuesday, (10-08-2013) in Southport. Among her survivors is a daughter, Paula Peele. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Pickett.

Arrangements are incomplete at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City.

JIMMY LEE WILLIAMSON
Mr. Jimmy Lee Williamson 53, of Bennett passed away at his home on Monday, (10-07-2013).

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, (10-10-2013) at 11 a.m at Needham’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Seagrove, with Rev. James Cockram, and Pastor Frank Thacker officiating.

Mr. Williamson was a Moore County native and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He worked as a weaver at Ramtex, before he became disabled. He was the son of Cranford L. Williamson and the late Vernice Williamson. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by daughters, Brandie LeAnn Williamson, and Sarah Kate Williamson.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Mary Britt Williamson of the home; sons, Robbie L. Williamson, Jacob C. Williamson of the home; father, Cranford L. Williamson and step-mother, Irene Williamson of Seagrove; and step-sister Dina Owens of Carthage.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall, and other times at his home.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joyce-Brady Chapel, P.O. Box 89, Bennett, NC 27208to help with funeral expenses.

MARGARET ALICE THOMPSON HANNER
Margaret Alice Thompson Hanner, 89, died Saturday, (10-05-2013).

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (10-09-2013) at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Sanford. Burial followed at Centennial AME Zion Church Cemetery in Bear Creek.

Mrs. Hanner was the daughter of the late Edgar and Daisy (Bynum) Thompson and was a graduate of J.S. Waters High School. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for 20 years at Meadow Brook Manor in Siler City. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Siler City. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Hanner; sons, Fred, Jr, , Norman; brothers, Robert Thompson, Leroy Thompson, Edgar Thompson, Lewis Thompson; sisters, Novella Dowdy, Daisy Peterson, Berta Foxx, and Bertha Thompson.

Survivors include sons, Myron Hanner and Samuel Hanner, both of Siler City, Tracy Hanner of Bear Creek; brother, Earl Thompson of Sanford;

Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

MARY JANE GRAVES
Mary Jane Graves passed away Tuesday (10-01-2013).

She was born February 11, 1922 to the late Clint and Nannie Mitchell Glover in Siler City. She attended Chatham County Schools. She was a member of Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from Evergreen Nursing Home as a nursing assistant and she was a home care attendant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Banks Graves; brothers, London and Clint Jr. Glover; sisters, Ida Meadows, Anna Isley and Annie Lois Glover.

Survivors include sons, Kerney Glover, Levi Graves, Eddie Graves; daughters, Sylvia Lee, Mary Cunning-ham, Delores Mitchell, Rhonda Graves; sisters, Geneva Lassiter, Nannie Glover, Loretta Glover; brothers, Weldon Glover; twelve grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

HARRY GAIL CARTER
Harry Gail Carter, 73, of J. C. Teague Road, Staley, died Friday, October 4, 2013 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Mr. Carter was born in Durham County on June 4, 1940, the son of Neal and Gertrude (Carden) Carter. Harry was a member of Staley Baptist Church where he was a member of the Adult Sunday Class and served on the grounds committee. He was a supervisor with an air products and chemicals company in the Acetylene Plant. He enjoyed gardening, riding his tractor, bird watching, NASCAR and Carolina basketball. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Pattishall Carter; his parents and brothers, Larry and Jimmy Carter.

Mr. Carter is survived by one son, Neil Carter and wife Sherri of Staley; granddaughter, Brynn Carter; sister, Mary Lee C. Jones of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, Nick Carter of Raleigh, and Norman Carter of Efland.

The family received friends Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the home of Neil and Sherri Carter, 657 J. C. Teague Road, Staley.

A memorial graveside service will be held Monday, October 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Staley Cemetery, Main Street, Staley with Rev. Jack Livingston, Rev. Tommy Smith and James Parrish officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Staley Fire Department, 410 Railroad Street, Staley, NC 27355.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home assisted the family.
