JEAN HEMRICK HUDSON
Jean Hemrick Hudson, 77, of Pittsboro, died Wednesday (12-02-09 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (12-05-09), at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Entombment followed.
Mrs. Hudson was a native of Forsyth County, and the daughter of John Henry Hemrick and Ada Louellen Long Hemrick. She worked as a registered nurse for a number of years and then became a real estate agent. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Pittsboro.
Survivors include a son, T.C. Hudson of Pittsboro; daughter, Valerie Mendenhall of Pittsboro; sisters, Lottie Morgan of Sebastian, FL, Lois Mustin of Belews Creek; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Hudson, Sr.

MALCOLM “PETE” COFFIELD JACKSON
Malcolm “Pete” Coffield Jackson, 85, died Thursday (12-03-09) by his loving family.
A celebration of life was held Sunday at Buffalo Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Burial followed in Buffalo cemetery.
Malcolm of Lee County was the son of the late John W. Jackson and Mamie Holloman Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Inez Mansfield Jackson, siblings, one unnamed infant, twins Wilma and Willard, Alvis, Clarence, Mavoline, and Ealise. He served in the Armed Forces during WWII. He was a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, and a member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder, trustee, member of the choir, and he maintained the church and church grounds.
Surviving are his daughters Patricia Kelly of Broadway, Debbie Thomas of Sanford, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
WILLIE LEE MOTE
Willie Lee Mote, 60, of Siler City died Thursday, (12-03-09) at his residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, (12-05-09) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Hurt officiating. Burial followed in Sapling Ridge United Methodist Cemetery.
Mr. Mote was the son of Sandlin and Effie Blanton Mote. He was a native of Pender County and had worked at Coleman Cable Company.
Survivors include daughters, Kim Edmondson of Siler City, Sharon Mote of High Point; sisters, Sula Taylor of Siler City, Katie Cooper of Taylors, SC, Louvania Charles of Lake Waccamaw; brother, Ray Mote of Siler City; and three grandchildren.
ARTHUR EDWIN EMERSON
Arthur Edwin Emerson, 61, of Siler City died Wednesday, (12-02-09) at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at a later date
Mr. Emerson was born at Otego, NY, the son of the late Glenn R. and Esther Harris Emerson. He worked as a machine operator with The Boling Company, and was preceded in death by his father, Glenn R. Emerson.
He is survived by sons, Jason Emerson of Sanford, Shawn Emerson of Siler City, Jeremy Emerson of Ramseur; mother, Esther Harris Emerson; brothers, Russell Emerson of Port Aransas, TX, Lee Emerson of Otego, NY; and three grandchildren.
LOIS OLIVIA STOUT SHAW
Lois Olivia Stout Shaw, 96, of the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro died Monday (12-07-09).
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, (12-09-09) at Pittsboro Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She was the daughter of Ada Johnson and Arthur Monroe Stout of Chatham County, and a retired sales clerk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colon L. Shaw, her sister, Peggy Stout Burke, and brothers, Lumice, Floyd and Arvie Stout.
Survivors include her son Leon Shaw of Pittsboro; daughter, Carolyn Mullen of Elizabeth City; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren,

DAVID ROBERTSON SUGG, JR.
David Robertson Sugg, Jr. 62, of Apex, died Sunday, (12-06-09) at his residence.
Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service and Cremation, Griffin Chapel, of Pittsboro.
JAMES ROLAND ELLINGTON
Jim Ellington, 80, died Monday, (11-20-09).
The funeral and burial with military honors were held on Monday (12-07-09) in Vacaville, CA.
He was born and raised in Pittsboro. He served in the Navy and was stationed onboard the Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier during the Korean War. He retired after 36 years at the Alameda Naval Air Station where he worked as an aircraft electrician.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Ethel Wright Ellington, and his wife, Beverly.
He is survived by his two sons; brother, Ed Ellington of Kingsport, TN; sister, Mary E. Tatum of Winston-Salem; and four grandchildren.
THELMA BEATRICE YARBOUGH
Thelma Beatrice Yarbough, 62, of Hillsboro died Saturday (12-05-09) in Select Specialty Hospital in Durham.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (12-09-09) in Abundant Life Church with burial in Deliverance Tabernacle Holiness Church Cemetery in Durham.
Mrs. Yarbough was a native of Chatham County and the daughter of the late Clifton and Leola Reaves Headen, Sr.
Survivors include her spouse, James Yarbough III; and children, Tonya Yarbough, Cherlyn Cash, James Andre’ Yarbough, Bernice McAdoo, Zena Yarbough, and Catherine Mebane.
ROBERT BLAIR MILLER
Robert Blair Miller, 66, of Pittsboro died Thursday, (11-12-09).
A memorial service was conducted Saturday (12-05-09) in Omaha, NE.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by a son, Andrew; his father, Jordan (Joe); and his mother, Byrl.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca, of Pittsboro; son, Eric of Chapel Hill; brothers, Joe, of Omaha, NE, Ray, of Beryl, UT; and one granddaughter.

RALPH EDWARD McLAURIN
Ralph Edward McLaurin, 86, of Siler City, died Sunday (12-06-09) at the VA Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, (12-12-09) at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ray Gooch presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall following the service, and at other times at the McLaurin residence.
A Chatham County native, he was the son of Albert Hugh McLaurin and Lucy Rhyne McLaurin. He was a retired seafood dealer and a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where he had served as chairman of the trustees, Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He served as a US Marine in the Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Poe McLaurin; son, Ed McLaurin of Siler City; daughter, Teresa McLaurin Bower of Springfield, IL; brothers, Neil J. McLaurin of Pittsboro, A. Joe McLaurin of Siler City; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

VESTA EARL PURVIS
Vesta Earl Purvis, 64, of 3394 Bennett-Siler City Road, Bennett, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Bennett Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Purvis was A native of Randolph County, a member of South Chatham Lions Club, a former trustee at his church, and an agent of over 40 years with United Insurance Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Newlin and Mattie Lemons Purvis and a sister, Mary Joyce Gatlin.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Andrews Purvis of the home; daughter, Ashley P. Brewer and husband Scott of Bennett; grandchildren, Bailey and Carson Brewer of Bennett; sisters, Nettie Margaret Gatlin and husband Recil of Asheboro, Esther P. Maness and husband Reece of Bennett; and brother-in-law Charles Gatlin of Bennett.
Visitation was held Friday, December 4, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

RALFE KEVIN BROWER
Ralfe Kevin Brower, age 82, of 430 John Emerson Road, Siler City died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.
Mr. Brower was born February 17, 1927, the son of the late Carl L. and the late Flossie (Craven) Brower. He was a native of Chatham County and a retired postal carrier with 42 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a former deacon. He served as a seaman first class in the US Navy during WW II. Kevin was a graduate of Hargrove Military School and attended Elon College and N. C. State University. Mr. Brower enjoyed dancing, especially to the Big Band music. He enjoyed wood working and in recent years, refurbishing a Dodson sport car.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis (Liles) Brower and two sons, Michael Kevin Brower and wife, Holly Burgess Brower of Sanford, Ronnie Liles Brower and wife, Janet Whetsine Brower of Waxhaw; four grandchildren, Jake, Kelly, Jessica and Rebekah Brower.
The family received friends Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The memorial graveside service was held Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park, 13260 Hwy 64 West, Siler City with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating.
