JOHN KEVIN DIGGINS

Greenville, NC – Mr. John Kevin Diggins, 68, died Thursday, October 1, 2009.

A visitation was held Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mr. Diggins, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, was a graduate of Boston College. A veteran of the United States Marines, he served in Vietnam. He was a Pitt County Memorial Hospital Volunteer and a Guardian ad litem volunteer.

He is survived by his partner, Jane King Teleki; son, Patrick John Diggins, of CA; and other family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pitt County Memorial Hospital Volunteer Services, Suite 202, Venture Tower, P. O. Box 8489, Greenville, NC 27835.

VIRGINIA HUDDLESTON PASCHAL

Virginia Huddleston Paschal 88, of 414 West Elk Street, Siler City, died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Chatham Hospital following two years of declining health. A native of Chatham County, Mrs. Paschal was born February 11, 1921, to Richard Field and Hallie Kelly Huddleston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Baird Loftis Paschal, Sr.; two sisters, Frances H. Bonds and Sallie H. Hackney, and a beloved grandson, David Gray Councilman. Mrs. Paschal is survived by her son, Baird L. Paschal, Jr. and wife, Kay of New Bern; daughters Trudy P. Walters and husband, Bennie of Bear Creek and Carolyn Dark Setzer and husband, Jerry of Spartanburg, SC. Survivors also include her brother, Richard (Dick) Huddleston and sister, Sara H. Burgess both of Siler City; four grandsons, two granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, special neighbors and devoted friends who all adored her as "Gigi".
Mrs. Paschal's schooling was in Person County and later at Louisburg College. She held the distinction of being one of North Carolina's first teacher assistants, serving at Mingo School in Sampson County. Later she held a customer service position with the Boling Company of Siler City until she retired at age 70.

The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional loving and compassionate care provided by Dr. Jim Davis and Dr. David Gibson and the staff at Chatham Primary Care and also Dr. Rao Kothapalli and the staff at Chatham Hospital.
Visitation was at the home of Bennie and Trudy Walters, 6500 Siler City-Glendon Road, Monday, October 5, 2009, between the evening hours of seven and nine p.m. The register may be signed at Smith & Buckner between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The funeral service and celebration of life was held Tuesday morning October 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tony Capehart officiating at the Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Mission-Memorial Fund, 314 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC; or to Western Chatham Boys & Girls Club c/o Geraldine Snider, Treasurer, 210 Nelson Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

DORIS WOMBLE COBLE

Doris Womble Coble, 84, of Burlington died Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Coventry House of Siler City.

Mrs. Coble was born June 2, 1925, the daughter of Thomas B. and Frances Johnson Womble. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and farmer. She was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Henry M. Coble.

She is survived by one sister, Lizzie "Pat" W. McLaurin of Siler City; several nieces & nephews; brother-in-law, Frank Coble of Julian; sister-in-law, Mary Layton and husband, W. D. of Climax.

The family received friends Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. R. Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow in Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Siler City.

RUBY LOIS RIVES BOULDIN

Mrs. Ruby Lois Rives Bouldin, 85, of Pittsboro, died Thursday (09-24-09) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Emmaus Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Moore presiding. Interment will follow in church cemetery.

Mrs. Bouldin was born in Chatham County to Kenneth G. Rives and Lois Gilmore Rives (Poe). She was a graduate of Bonlee High School and attended Louisburg College and was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, but had worked in the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Chatham County Superintendent’s office, and at Pittsboro Builders Supply.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur C. Bouldin; daughter, Jan B. Luellen and of Sanford; sons, Kenneth D. Bouldin of West End, James A. Bouldin of Pittsboro; four grandchildren, seven great-grandsons; and brothers, K. Gerald Rives, William E. Rives, Wilbur A. Rives, all of Siler City, and Donald E. Rives of Florida.

Memorial contributions may be sent to either: Emmaus Baptist Church Building Fund, 2430 Silk Hope – Gum Springs Rd, Pittsboro, NC 27312; or to UNC Hospice, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

RACHEL LUCILLE EUBANKS

Mrs. Rachel Lucille Eubanks, 87 of Pittsboro died Friday (09-18-09) at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, (09-21-09) at New Salem Church, with the Rev. Chris Gambos and the Rev. Wesley Thomas presiding. Interment followed in Old Rock Springs Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Eubanks was born in Chatham County, the daughter of Gertrude Elkins. She was a member of New Salem Church and was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Pearly Elwood Eu-banks; son, Herman Johnson; daughter, Laverne Womble; grandson, P.L. Womble; and great-granddaughter, Catlin Womble.

Surviving are sons, Charlie Eubanks, Dennis Eubanks, both of Pittsboro; daughter, Betty Holt of Chapel Hill; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Chatham County Council on Aging, 365 NC 87 North, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

JAMES HAROLD “BEE” FOX

James Harold "Bee" Fox, 76, of Siler City died Tuesday (09-29-09) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

Graveside services will be held Thursday (10-01-09) at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Brian Wellborn officiating.

Mr. Fox was the son of Clyde Adam and Ada Bell Buckner Fox. A native of Chatham County, he was a retired truck driver, a veteran of the US Army, and of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Collins Fox.

Survivors include a brother, Gilbert Fox of Siler City; sisters, Iva Mae F. Gibbs of Greensboro, and Carolyn Faye White of Siler City.

The family received friends Wednesday (09-30-09) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, NC 27344 or a charity of choice.

CLARA MAE PHILLIPS CAIN

Clara Mae Phillips Cain, 94, of Bennett, died Tuesday, (09-29-09) at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation Center in Asheboro.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday (10-01-09) at Bennett Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Cain was a native of Moore County, a homemaker, a member of the Bennett Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU and had served as a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include daughter, Susan C. Hussey of Bennett; son, Russell Smith of Durham; sisters, Elizabeth P. Poole of Asheboro, India P. Craven of Ramseur, Allena P. Phillips of Bennett; brother, J. C. Phillips of Robbins; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to: Bennett Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 91, Bennett, NC 27208.

ANDERSON GARDNER “ANDY” YOUNGBLOOD

Anderson Gardner (Andy) Youngblood, 43, died peacefully at his home in Afton, TN on September 23, 2009 surrounded by his loved ones. Andy died from complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Andy was born December 1, 1965 in Raleigh, NC, is a 1984 graduate of Broughton High School and attended NC State University. When stricken with ALS, Andy was the Manager of the Tractor Supply in Greeneville, TN.

Andy leaves behind his loving wife, Heather Fulton Youngblood; son, John Thomas "JT", age 16; daughters Emma, age 11, and Lily, age 4. Also missing Andy will be sister Karen Y. Padgett, her husband Neal and daughter Carson, all of Garner, NC, sister Vickie Youngblood, her son and daughter, Clark and Mollie Tew, all of Holly Springs, NC; brother Tom Youngblood, wife Patricia and stepson Jay of Newport, NC, brother, Jenks Youngblood of Sanford, NC; loving in-laws, John and Charlotte Fulton of Elizabethtown, TN; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Andy was the son of the late Joan Long Youngblood of Raleigh, NC and T.W. Youngblood, Sr., who resides in Pensacola, FL.

A celebration of Andy's life will be held at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service in Greeneville, TN on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 7 p.m. A visitation will precede the service from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youngblood Children’s Education Trust at any Green Bank branch, or by mail to Green Bank, PO Box 1120, Greeneville, TN. 37744.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to two very dedicated nurses who have been by Andy's side these many months, Terri and Dawn. A special thanks to Dr. Farrow and last but not least, Dr. Das who has been an incredible doctor and friend to Andy and the family.

PETER JIM SKALCHUNES

Peter Jim Skalchunes of Clemmons, NC died September 22, 2009, 62 years old.

Born in 1946 in Greensboro, NC, “Pete” graduated from Grimsley High and was class of 1970 at N.C. State where he enjoyed the brotherhood of Phi Kappa Tau.

A successful entrepreneur and CEO of Essex Inc. of Winston-Salem, he was a fine athlete and a man of great breath of interest and knowledge. Above all, Pete was an unparalleled husband, father and grandfather whose wide experience, force of character, and love for his family will be missed by this generation and those to come. His generous nature and gift of conversation brought great joy and conveyed his love of life. He was taken too soon.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kay Reeves Skalchunes; his daughters Brandi Skalchunes Tappe, Amy Skalchunes Covington and sons-in-law Joe Tappe and Brent Covington. He was beloved “Papou” to Brandi’s children Gabe and Sophia and Amy’s sons Jack and Peter.

Services will be held at Salem Funerals and Cremations at 120 South Main Street in Winston-Salem on Saturday, September 26 at 1 p.m.

DAN H. STINSON

Dan H. Stinson, 58, of Bear Creek died peacefully Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Dan was born November 26, 1950, beloved only son of Horace and Ruth Hilliard Stinson of Siler City and was preceded in death by his parents. A life-long guitarist, he is survived by his wife of 39 wonderful years, Jean B. Stinson of Bear Creek; two daughters, Jayne S. Powell and husband, Spc. Brandon A. Powell of Bear Creek, Debra S. Roberts and husband, Trent Roberts of Bear Creek; as well as two sons, Sam Stinson of Seattle, Washington and Adam Stinson of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Serra Carmines, Caleb Stinson, Bradley Roberts, Ashley Roberts and Kaylee Powell; special friends of the family, Sharon Huestis of Seattle, Washington and Katie Black of Charlotte; four sisters, Shirley Grissom and husband Hyatt of Troy, Linda Barker and husband Walter Earl of Troy, Pat Brewer and husband Bill of Siler City, Robin McFarland and husband Mike of Maple Grove, Minnesota; as well as several very dear nieces and nephews.

Dan attended Paul Braxton Elementary and Jordan-Matthews High School as well as graduated with honors from Central Carolina Community College in Sanford with a degree in both electronics and laser optics. Having a life-long love of music, he played lead guitar in local bands including The Troubadours, Smith-Conner, Pegasus and Singletree, playing extensively throughout North Carolina and the Southeast. He also taught guitar to his son, Adam, as well as several nephews and friends and so enjoyed playing for one and all, that his love of music will be carried on in them.

The family extends “heartfelt” thanks to the entire staff of UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, especially the coronary care and heart failure doctors and nurses for their care, love and support of his many years of illness. Honoring Dan’s request to be an organ donor and then cremation, the family requests privacy during their time of sorrow.

In lieu of flowers and visitation, donations may be made in Dan’s honor to his life’s dedication: The UNC Heart Failure Research Program, c/o Dr. Kirk Adams, CB 7075, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7075.

BOYD REECE SAUNDERS

Boyd Reece Saunders, 78, of 6185 Clint Caviness Road, Ramseur, died Monday, September 28, 2009 at his home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Mark Strickland and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Saunders was a Randolph County native, attended Harmony Baptist Church and was retired from Hill Furniture in Ramseur.

Mr. Saunders was predeceased by parents Willie and Roxie Cain Saunders;brothers, Clyde and Lynn Saunders; sisters, Elaine Hammer, Eula Mae Smith; and a great grandchild, Hunter Saunders.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Brady Saunders of the home; son, Bud Saunders and wife Janice of Bennett; daughters, Sherry S. Brown and husband Bobby of Bennett, Saundra S. Coble and husband David of Bennett; sister, Wilma S. Beck and husband Fred of Bennett; grandchildren, Sheila Elkins, Robbie Brown, Wayne Coble, Darren Saunders, Deanna Culberson, Brian Saunders, Darlene Suits, and Carrie Smith; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.
