MARY POOLE LANGLEY
Mary Poole Langley, 63, of Liberty, died Tuesday (07-14-09) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Graveside services were held Sunday (07-19-09) at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.
Mrs. Langley was the daughter of Charlie Tate and Corine Poole. She was a native of Lincoln County and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, George Connor Langley; son, George Lee Langley, Siler City; daughters, Alice Sue Cope of Liberty, Carol Ann Langley of Greensboro, Kathy Aguilar of Liberty; half-brother, Charles Thomas Poole of Ramseur; and seven grandchildren.
ROBERT EDWARD LASSITER, SR.
Mr. Robert Edward Las-siter, Sr., 79, died Thursday, (07-16-09) at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, (07-20-09) from Pittsboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tripp Harmon presiding. Graveside rites were held at 3 p.m Monday at Pine Rest Cemetery in Robbins.
A native of Robbins, Mr. Lassiter was the son of W.C. Lassiter, Sr. and Desma Ballard Lassiter. He was owner/ operator of the Piggly Wiggly store in Pittsboro, a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church, and the Victor Johnson Men’s Sunday School class. Mr. Lassiter was preceded in death by his son Robert Edward “Bobby” Lassiter, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Benson Lassiter; son Mitch Lassiter of Sanford; daughter, Rhonda L. Perry of Concord, NH; sister, Dixie L. Lewis of Robbins; brothers Glenn Lassiter, Jimmie Lassiter, both of Robbins, Harold Lassiter, Carlton Lassiter both of Lillington; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

DENNIS WAYNE GREER
Dennis Wayne Greer, 53, of Siler City, died Monday, (07-13-09) at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.
The family received friends on Wednesday, (07-22-09), from 1-3:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown funeral service of Marion, VA. Graveside services followed at 4 p.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion.
Mr. Greer was the son of the late Jack and Charlotte Shelton Greer.
He was a native of Marion, VA, a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School, and a self employed welder.
He is survived by sons, Dennis, Ben, and Timothy; twin brother, Steven Greer of Southport, and brother, Darren Greer of Siler City.
HERBERT RONALD SEARLE
Herbert Ronald Searle, 87, of Pittsboro died Friday (07-10-09) at his home.
A service for family and friends will be at a later date.
Mr. Searle was a former resident of Madison, WI.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Ron and Scott; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred to UNC Hospice, PO Box 1077 Pittsboro, NC 27312.
Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service, Griffin Chapel, of Pittsboro.
WINFRED LEROY MANN
Winfred Leroy Mann, 79, of Pittsboro died Friday (07-17-09) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (07-21-09) at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ with Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mann was a native of Chatham County and the son of Edna Mann and the late Seaton Mann. He retired from Chatham Mills with 43 years service. He was a member of Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ in Pittsboro, having served as a trustee and a member of various church committees
Survivors include his wife Foy R. Mann; children, Bertha M. Smith, David W. Mann, Patricia L. Mann, Amy M. Meacham, Donald L. Mann; and twelve grandchildren.

HAROLD EDWARD RODGERS
Mr. Harold E. Rodgers, 76, of Pittsboro died Friday (07-17-09) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (07-22-09) at Staunton Memorial CME Church with Rev. Albert S. Williams, officiating. Burial followed in Pittsboro Cemetery.
Survivors include sons, Eddye G. Rodgers, Mark A. Rodgers of the home; daughter, Vaness D. Rodgers of Apex; brothers, Bobby Rodgers of Pittsboro; sister, Sherlyn Taylor of Brazelton, GA; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
MARIE ALSTON LEE
Mrs. Marie Alston Lee, 71, of Pittsboro died Wednesday (07-15-09) at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday (07-20-09) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lee was a native of Chatham County and a graduate of Chatham High School.
Survivors include her husband, George William Lee of the home; daughters, Marcia Lee of Durham, Denise Lee Bradford of Greensboro; sisters, Melvin Dark, Liberty, Estalla Headen, Siler City, Alvator Vurnette of Carrboro, Mary Elizabeth Milliken of Pittsboro; brothers, Leon Alston, Sr., Raymond Brady Alston, both of Siler City; and one grandson.
ISABELL CLARK EUBANKS
Isabell Clark Eubanks, 84, of Pittsboro died Sunday (07-19-09) at her home.
The family will hold a private memorial service on Friday (07-24-09).
Mrs. Eubanks was a native of Chatham County and the daughter of the late Robert and Lena Council Clark. She retired from Chatham Mills after 42 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, W. Bickett Eubanks of the home; son, James “Billy” Eubanks of Pittsboro; brother, Robert Lee Clark of Newbern; two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

JEANMARIE FARRELL DEVINNEY
Jeanmarie Farrell Devinney, 41, of Pittsboro, died Saturday (07-18-09) at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (07-25-09) at Pittsboro Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Tripp Harmon, Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Phillip Tighe officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Fr. Tighe will celebrate a memorial Mass at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Wake Forest at a later date.
Mrs. Devinney was a graduate of Millbrook High School in Raleigh and Louisburg Jr. College. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas J. Farrell.
Survivors include her husband, Tim; sons, Tyler and Brennan Deans; mother, Joan Farrell of Jacksonville, FL; and brother, Tom, of Jacksonville, FL.

ARTHUR R. “ART” VARGA, SR.
Arthur R. “Art” Varga, Sr., 85, died July 14, 2009 at his home in Moncure.
Mr. Varga was born in Chittenden, VT on December 8, 1923, the son of Andrew and Esther Tarsci Varga. Survivors include his wife Barbara D. (McKay) Varga; sons and daughters, Sandra Levesque, Judith Lamberti, Ronald, Robert, and Arthur Varga; grandsons, granddaughters, great grandsons and great granddaughters; and his step-children, Gregg E. McKay, Scott C. McKay, Lanell (McKay) Perkins and Kimberly (McKay) Sutton. He is also survived by a sister, Christine McElfish of Dallas, TX. Art was predeceased by his sisters, Yolan Potter, Emma Mandigo and Irene Peters; brothers, Andrew Varga and George Varga; and his granddaughter, Anna Veronica Lamberti.
Mr. Varga was best known as a general contractor and was self-employed until 1978. He became a supervisor with The Sabotka Company, Inc. and in 1980 became a finish carpenter with John A. Russell Corp. He returned to self-employment in 1980 and until 1998 also became an owner, trainer, and breeder of standard bred horses. He trained on the track at his farm in Clarendon, VT and raced throughout New England as well as Saratoga and Yonkers in New York. His horses were his delight and passion. In 1998, along with his wife Barbara, he came to Moncure, NC where they have resided with daughter Kim and her husband Terry Sutton.
Art was a member of the National Rifle Association, Vermont Horseman’s Association, Vermont Trotting Association, and the Connecticut Valley Horseman’s Association. Together with his wife, Barbara, he founded The Rutland Reinsmen that remained active until his departure to North Carolina in December, 1998. He became a member of Chatham United Methodist Church in Moncure after his arrival in North Carolina.
The funeral service for Mr. Varga was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 from Chatham United Methodist Church, with Rev. Patrick Sinclair presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Friends visited with the family from 6– 8 p.m. Friday at Hall-Wynne funeral service, Griffin Chapel, in Pittsboro.

ROLFE RIDDLE PHILLIPS
Rolfe Riddle Phillips, 83, of 469 Alston Bridge Road, Siler City died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Phillips was born September 18, 1925, the son of Rudy Lee and Esta Riddle Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a native of Chatham County, a retired farmer and an Army veteran of WW II. Rolfe was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was a member of Gideon International.
He is survived by his wife, Frances H. Phillips; two sons, Rolfe Lee Phillips and wife, Sandra of Asheboro, Robert Van Phillips and wife, Linda of Siler City; two daughters, Frances "Elaine" P. Dixon and husband, Winford of Siler City, Gloria P. Josey and husband, Wayne of Siler City; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Friday, July 17, 2009 from 7- 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral was held Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City with Rev. Larry Soblotne officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

WILLIAM ARCHIE HILLIARD
William Archie Hilliard, age 76, of 1484 Delphus Stinson Road, Goldston died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.
Mr. Hilliard was born March 29, 1933, the son of Robert Worth and Sallie Phillips Hilliard. He was a native of Chatham County, a farmer and was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Worth and Sallie Phillips Hilliard and a brother, Harold Hilliard.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hilliard; one son, Doug Hilliard and wife, Leanne of Zebulon; twin daughters, Sherry H. Freeman and husband, Kelly of Bear Creek, Terry H. Frazier and husband, Donny of Goldston; two brothers, Robert Hilliard, Roy Hilliard both of Siler City; four sisters, Juanita H. Lucas of Siler City, Geneva H. Beck of Bear Creek, Ezzie Lee H. Smith of Bear Creek, Lenora H. Lucas of Siler City; grandchildren, Matthew Hilliard, Joshua Frazier, Kristie Freeman, Noah Frazier Elizabeth Hilliard; great grandchildren, Aiden Kannon and Lacey Hilliard.
The family received friends Monday, July 20, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral was held Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 17721 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner and Pastor Robert Lucas officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
