DORIS EDWARDS WOODARD

Doris Edwards Woodard, 86, formerly of Siler City, died on Tuesday, December 1, 2008 at Guilford Health Care. She was born in Oakridge and was married to the late Clyde T. Edwards, Sr. and the late Samuel Gordon Woodard.

She is survived by her sons, Clyde (Ruby) Edwards of Siler City and Wavern Delane Edwards of Florida; granddaughters, Jerri (Jeffrey) Saunders of Bear Creek and Alison Overman of Snow Camp; great grandchildren, Troy Overman of Snow Camp, Kristen, Morgan and Jacob Saunders of Bear Creek.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Walter Jones. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

DWIGHT WESLEY DUPREE

Mr. Dwight Wesley Dupree, 51, of Moncure, died Wednesday, (11-19-2008) at Chapel Hill Health and Rehab Center.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, (11-21-2008) at Moncure United Methodist Church cemetery, with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.

Mr. Dupree was a native of Pittsboro, the son of the late Willie Ira Dupree and Annie Beatrice Howard Dupree. He was self-employed and a volunteer fireman for the Moncure Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Clifford Dupree; step-son, Kenny Burgess of New York; and a brother, James Dupree of Moncure.

DONALD H. WICKER

Donald Harper Wicker, 74, died Monday, (11-17-2008) at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (11-21-2008) at Holly’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Pastors Mark Ainsworth, Delma Scotton and Tim Wolfe officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wicker was a Chatham County native, a life-long trucker, and retired from Stout Trucking Co. after 15 years of company service. He was a member of Holly’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving is his wife, Eunice Scotton Wicker of the home; son, Barry Wicker of the home; daughter, Pam Soheili, of Staley; sisters, Carol Johnson and Susan Haymore, both of Siler City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216.

BRENDA SUE STEED ANTHONY

Brenda Sue Steed Anthony, “Precious”, the beloved wife of John Anthony, departed from her earthly life to embrace the arms of her everlasting Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Brenda was born to James Ray and Ethel Steed in Asheboro, North Carolina. She graduated from Chatham Central High School and attended nursing school in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to being a loving wife she managed the family real estate business and previously owned and operated P.N.N.E.C. Electrolysis of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Brenda’s first birth was October 17, 1948 but more importantly she was born again in Christ on April 13, 1994. She married John Anthony on July 9, 1994 and together they truly enjoyed life. Brenda was also an avid supporter of the Humane Society of York County.

Brenda was a faithful servant of the Lord and an active member of Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. She attended numerous Bible Studies, she was a member of the Martha Ministry, Food Service Ministry and a member of Early Risers Sunday School Class.

She was predeceased by her father and mother. She is survived by a brother Lloyd Steed, sisters, Elizabeth Mills, Carroll Hodgin, Patricia Hussey, step children, April Anthony, John Henry Anthony, David Anthony, step grandchildren Morgan Anthony, Gabriel Anthony and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at Calvary Church Rea Road Room, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28226 from 7-9 PM, Thursday, November 20, 2008. The funeral was held at Calvary Church Chapel on Friday, November 21,

2008 at 10 AM with Pastor David Ingrassia, and Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating. Interment will be at Gilmore Memorial Gardens in Julian, North Carolina. Lowe Funeral Home of Matthews (704- 545-3553) is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of York County, 2036 Carolina Place, Fort Mill, SC 29708 or Gethsemane Garden Christian Center in Kenya, Africa, care of Calvary Church.

Brenda will be missed by all the lives she touched, but we have the wonderful assurance knowing one day we will see her again.

WILLIAM “CLARENCE” PHILLIPS

Mr. William “Clarence” Phillips, 95, of 674 Clarence Phillips Road, a loving father, went home to be with our Lord Friday, November 21, 2008 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 24, 2008 at 2 p.m.. at Fall Creek Baptist Church where he was the oldest member and a former deacon.

Reverend Bob Gelsthorpe and Dr. Ron Chaney officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was a native of Chatham County and the son of the late Herbert and Nannie Brewer Phillips. He was a retired poultry and cattle farmer and carpenter who in later years worked at Bennett Farm Supply and Hardware. He faithfully attended Fall Creek Baptist Church as long as his health permitted and was a member of the Adult #2 Men’s Sunday School Class.

His home was always open and people were always welcome to eat there. He was known to many as PaPa.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Hill Phillips and a son, Odell Phillips.

Surviving are daughters, Joyce McNeill and husband Garland of Bennett, Shelby Scott and husband Bob of Bennett; son, Earl Phillips and wife Lou of Bear Creek; daughter-in– law, Bobbie Phillips of Bear Creek; sisters, DeEtte Jones of Bear Creek, Maxine Albright of Bennett; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The family was at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett Sunday 6-8 p.m. and other times at the family home.

Memorials should be directed to Fall Creek Baptist Church in care of Virginia Brady, 532 Winfred Brady Road, Bennett, NC 27208.

PERRY CRAFT MARLEY

Perry Craft Marley, age 90, of Greensboro, formerly of E. Raleigh St., Siler City died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at White Stone Masonic & Eastern Star Home, Greensboro

Mrs. Marley was born May 22, 1918, the daughter of Stephen and Georgia (Galloway) Craft.

Mrs. Marley was a native of Pitt County and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Siler City where she was a member of the Friendship Class, the UMW, the church choir, served on the altar guild and was a member of the Joy Circle. She was a retired secretary from A. J. Sch-neierson & Sons and was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Marley, Sr.

She is survived by two sons, Roy L. Marley, Jr. and wife, Judy of Baton Rouge, LA, Danny Marley and wife, Barbara of Siler City, NC; two sisters:

Lexine C. Jordan of Harleysville, PA, Jane C. Bergman of Wilson, NC; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Michael Sykes and Rev. Travis Owens officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park. The family received friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, P O Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344.

JOHNNY WALDECK

Johnny Waldeck, 83, of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (11-11-2008) at Laurels of Chatham.

Funeral services were held Friday at 3 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Moore, officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Waldeck, born in Gertianosch, Rumania, was the son of the late Peter and Katharina Mueller Waldeck. In the U.S. since 1952, he retired with 24 years as shop manager at Fitch Lumber in Carrboro. He was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; children, Siegfried (Fred) Waldeck of Pittsboro; John Waldeck, Jr. of Houston, TX, Alfred Waldeck of Pittsboro, Christine Seawell of Durham; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandcildren.

ANNIE MARGIE BURKE CLARK

Annie Margie Burke Clark, 91, of Siler City died Tuesday (11-11-2008) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (11-15-2008) at Brookdale Baptist Church with Rev. Christopher St. Jean officiating. Burial followed in

Chatham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Clark, a native of Chatham County, the daughter of Sam Rosser and Mattie Covet Burke retired from Hadley Peoples Manufacturing, and was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husbands, Phillip Lee Bacon, James R. Clark; brothers, Jehugh Burke, C. R. Burke; sisters, Lillie Hough, Lucille Branson, Mry Lee Campbell, Elizabeth Leavy, and Alma Rives.

Surviving is a sister, Emma Moore of Siler City.

EMMA I. TAYLOR

Emma I. Taylor, of Pittsboro died Thursday (11-13-2008).

Funeral services were held Monday (11-17-2008) at C. E. Willie Funeral Chapel in Pittsboro.

DENNIS ARNOLD ANDREWS

Dennis Arnold Andrews, 61, of Chapel Hill died Thursday (11-13-2008) at UNC Hospitals.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (11-16-2008) at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Andrews, the son of the late Tom and Mary Perry Andrews, was a native of Bynum. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Allen Andrews.

Survivors include a daughter, Natalie Andrews Miller of Pittsboro; sisters, Mary Ann Clark of Greensboro, Cathy Hearne of Bynum; and half-sister, Louise Atkinson of Pittsboro.

ELLA MAE FRANCISCO DAURITY

Ella Mae Francisco Daurity, 73, of Lawrence, GA, died Monday (11-10-2008) in Peachtree Christian Hospice Center.

Private memorial services were held Monday (11-17-2008) at First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville.

Mrs. Daurity, formerly of Siler City was preceded in death by her husband, Jack D. Daurity.

Survivors include a daughter, Vickie D. Mealor of Lawrenceville, GA and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6500 Sugarloaf parkway, Suite 260, Deluth, GA 30097.

HOWARD ROBERTS

Howard Foy Roberts, 88, of Bonlee died Thursday (11-13-08 at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

Funeral services were held Saturday (11-15-2008) at 2 p.m. at Bonlee Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial followed in Hope Cemetery in Bonlee.

Mr. Roberts was the son of James Henry and Fannie Finnison Roberts and a native of Chatham County, retired from Southland Life insurance. He was a member of Bonlee Baptist Church and served in the US Army during WW II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Roberts; son, Mike Roberts of Charlotte; and a sister, Lillian Mobley of Florence, SC.
