GLADYS R. COCKMAN

Gladys Ritter Cockman, 56, of Ramseur, died Wednesday (05-21-2008) at her home.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (05-24-2008) at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Howard Moffitt officiating.

Mrs. Cockman was a native of Randolph County, employee with Technimark, Inc. and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors include brothers, James Ritter, Levis Ritter, both of Ramseur; sisters, Vertle Ritter, Hazel Reich, both of Ramseur; Tessie Garner of Bennett and Lessie Maness of Bear Creek.

Memorials may be made to donor’s choice.

JESSE B. BRAY

Jesse Burns Bray, 67, of Staley died Thursday (05-22-2008) at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday (05-24-2008) at Holly’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Joseph Yarborough officiating.

Mr. Bray was a native of Chatham County and retired from Stuart’s Furniture.

Survivors include a son, Jody Bobb Bray of Contoment, FL; daughter, Christina Bray Brown of Staley; brothers, Larry Bray, Michael Bray, both of Franklinville, Randal Bray of Asheboro; sister, Nancy Fisher of Sophia; and three grandchildren.

JOHN WILLIAM NICHOLSON

John William Nicholson, 80, of Pittsboro died Friday (05-23-2008) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral and burial were held on Tuesday (05-27-2008) at Shinnston Masonic Cemetery in Shinnstown, WV.

JAMES ROBERT WHITE

James Robert White, 55, of Apex died Saturday (05-24-2008) at his home.

Services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday (05-27-2008) at Griffin funeral service in Pittsboro with Rev. Chuck Winner presiding.

Mr. White was a native of Chatham County and a long- time sales representative for Sloan Auto Parts.

Survivors include a daughter, Abby White of Bynum; mother, Elizabeth Russell of Lemon Springs; brother, Frankie Cooper of GA; sisters, Carolyn Martin, Libby Johnson, Mary Jane Smith, all of GA; and two granddaughters.

MARY TOMMYE PATTERSON WILSON

Mary Tommye Patterson Wilson, 65, of Snow Camp died Saturday (05-24-2008) at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (05-26-2008) at South Fork Friends Church with Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating. Burial followed in the Friends Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilson was a native of Washington, DC and of the Baptist faith. She was retired district manager for Sears Automotive.

Survivors include daughter, Libby Wilson Hadley of Snow Camp; sons, Dean Wilson of Davie, FL, Bruce Wilson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister, Georgia P. Sadlowe of Knoxville, TN; brothers, Frank Patterson of Key Largo, FL, James Patterson of Miami, FL; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, W. Chatham Relay for Life, C/O Betty Terry, 519 South Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

PEGGY GERRINGER TEAGUE

Peggy Gerringer Teague, 73, of Pittsboro died Sunday (05-25-2008) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (05-27-2008) at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Shane Arnold presiding.

Mrs. Teague was a native of Chatham County, a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, and a retired machinist from TRIEM, Inc. of Carrboro.

Survivors include her husband, Grady Lee Teague, Jr. of the home; daughters, Karen Parker, Elaine Ratliff, Charlene Farrell, all of Pittsboro, Tracy Collins of Sanford; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

LILLIAN MAY HILLIARD DUNN

Lillian May Hilliard Dunn, 97, of Siler City died Sunday (05-25-2008) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (05-27-2008) at Chatham Memorial Park with Pastor Dan Principe officiating.

Mrs. Dunn, was a native of Moore County and former resident of Bonlee.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Dunn of Siler City; daughters, June Carol Dunn McAllister of Siler City, Joann Dunn Olah of Sun City, AZ; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

EDITH MAE CHEEK BRADY

Edith Mae Cheek Brady, 86, of Siler City died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

Mrs. Brady was born August 29, 1921, the daughter of Wade and Annie Mae (Davis) Cheek. Mrs. Brady was a native of Randolph County and a member of Oakley Baptist Church where she was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to read her Bible and was faithful to listen to her radio on Sunday morning, to church services. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawton Brady; sons, Leonard Brady and Richard Brady; brothers, John, Penn and James Cheek; sisters, Edna C. Davis, Doris C. Hancock and Golda C. Hughes; and son-in-law, Donnie Ellis.

She is survived by one daughter: Patricia Brady Ellis of Snow Camp; one son, David L. Brady of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters: Helen Earl of Durham, Jean Gupton of Durham; grandchildren, Dana Daniel, Donna Gilmore, Scott Brady, Kim Brady, Pam Brady, Troy Brady, Chris Brady, Patrick Brady and six great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Friday, May 23, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City with Rev. Brian Sandifer and Rev. Troy Brown officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

WILLIAM “Bill” SARTWELL

William “Bill” Sartwell, 70, of Bear Creek died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at his residence.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Al Martin and Rev. J. R. Bouldin officiating.

Mr. Sartwell was a native of Dearborn, Michigan, a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church, and a retired mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Lane Sartwell of Bear Creek; sons, Randall Sartwell and wife Donna; Todd Sartwell and wife Brenda, all of Bear Creek; brother, James F. Sartwell of Michigan; sister, Diane S. Stenzel of Baltimore, MD; and step-grandsons, Will and Jordan.

Visitation was held from 6:30 to 8:30 Friday, May 23, 2008 at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to UNC, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312; or West Chatham Food Pantry, 126 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

FLOYD “TOTTLE” PHILLIPS

Floyd Phillips of Bear Creek died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.

Mr. Phillips was born August 19, 1926, the son of Paul A. and Rosie (Hunter) Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a native of Chatham County and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. He was retired from Collins & Aikman after 22 years and was a WW II Coast Guard veteran. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Paul A. and Rosie Hunter Phillips, a sister, Madeline Smith Moore and a grandson, Jeremy Preston Moses.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Teague Phillips; four daughters, Cindy Phillips of Morehead City, Wanda P. Estridge of Bennett, Nancy P. Peters and husband, Donny of Bear Creek, Lisa Groves and husband, Charlie of Durham; one son, Jim Phillips and wife, Joyce of Sanford; three sisters, Betty P. Carter of Siler City, Peggy P. Brooks of Bear Creek, Doris P. DiMeo of Siler City; five brothers, Homer Phillips of Bear Creek, James Phillips of Bear Creek, Bobby Phillips of Bear Creek, William "Shug" Phillips of Bear Creek, Harland Phillips of Lexington; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Saturday, May 24, 2008 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 17721 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek, with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery with military rites by the Randolph Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 17721 NC HWY 902, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

MINTER “MB” BADDERS

Minter "MB" Badders, 73, of Siler City died Friday, May 23, 2008 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Mr. Badders was born July 16, 1934 the son of W. Garrett and Edna Lee (Fields) Badders. He was a native of Chatham County and worked with Boling Chair Co. for 43 years as a department supervisor.

He is survived by his wife Mollie Edwards Badders; four daughters, Sharon B. Brewer of Siler City, Cindy B. Szilvay and husband, Pete of Siler City, Donna B. Locklear and husband, Tommie of Siler City, Christie B. Hamrick of Siler City; grandchildren, Lori Burt and husband, John, Jonathan Culberson and wife, Claire, PFC Addison Culberson, Grant McMillan, Candie Hilliard, Alysa Badders, Hayden Hamrick, Jack Hamrick; great-grandchildren, Laci, Keigan, Madi, and Kenzie.

The family received friends Sunday, May 25, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, 17475 US 64 W, Siler City with Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.

JOSIE LEONA HARRIS PICKETT

Josie Leona Harris Pickett, age 92, of Siler City died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Pickett was born December 24, 1915, the daughter of the late Robert and Bessie (Rogers) Harris.

Mrs. Pickett was a native of Chatham County and retired from A. J. Schneierson & Sons. She was a member of Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, she served as a former Secretary of the Sunday School Department and Assistant Director of the Mission Department. Josie was preceded in death by her husband, James Clyde Pickett.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann P. Hancock and husband, Troy "Mack" of Siler City, Bobbie P. Powers of Siler City; granddaughter, Dawn P. Smith and husband, Ken of Bear Creek; two great-granddaughters, Brooke and Kenley Smith of Bear Creek.

The family received friends Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, 17475 US 64 W, Siler City with Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
