JANE TIDY DAVIS
Jane Tidy Davis, 65, of Glenn Allen, Virginia, lovingly known as “Ghee” to her grandsons, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2008 with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She faced her illness with constant grace and overwhelming fortitude.
Jane was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. “Bill” Tidy. During World War II, her father, Bill Tidy, was employed as an Engineer with the Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore, Maryland, where Jane was born. After the war, the family moved to Siler City where Jane was raised. She graduated from Jordan-Matthews High School. She attended East Carolina University, married, and moved to Virginia where she dedicated her life to raising her children.
She was employed for several years by Pediatric Associates of Richmond, and recently retired as Administrative Assistant with Henrico County Public School System. He most rewarding vocation was that of grandmother. She was a dedicated member of Grove Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond, enjoyed volunteering, and she loved to think up ways to have lots of fun with her grandsons. It was always the little things that counted the most.
She is survived by three daughters, J. Elizabeth Davis of Richmond, Anne Davis Pawlik, Sara Davis Harmon, both of Glen Allen; two sons-in-law, Bill Pawlik, Robert Harmon; four grandsons, Jack, Sam, Ben Pawlik, Alex Harmon, and their grandfather, Gene Davis; brother, Rod Tidy and his wife Evelyn of Siler City; several nieces, and many wonderful friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia.

JESSE ROLAND BUTTS, SR.
Jesse Roland Butts, Sr., 85, of Sanford died Tuesday (05-13-2008) at Liberty Commons of Lee County.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (05-16-2008) at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Stanley officiating. Burial followed at Holly Springs Church cemetery.
Mr. Butts was a native of Greene County, a graduate of N.C. State University with a BS degree in agricultural education and a MS in education. He retired from Lee Senior High School, and was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Ernestine Winberry Butts of the home; sons, Tim Butts of Sanford, Johnny Winberry Butts of Siler City, Willie Ernest Butts of Sophia; brother, Bobby N. Butts of Tampa Bay, FL; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
BUSTER BROWN
Benjamin Buster Brown, 77, of Seagrove died Wednesday (05-14-2008) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (05-16-2008) at New Center Christian Church with Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brown was a native of Chatham County, retired from AGI and a member of New Center Christian Church.
Survivors include sons, Benjy Brown, of Seagrove, Bryan Brown of Asheboro; brothers, Coy Brown of Bonlee, Colon Brown of Bear Creek, Norman Brown of Bennett; sisters, Hilda Brewer, Myrtle Teague, both of Bennett; and three grandsons.

DELORES H. YORK
Delores “Nookie” Hinson York, 76, of Ramseur, died Wednesday (05-14-2008) at Universal Health Care.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday (05-17-2008) at Kildee Wesleyan Church with Rev. Gary Waisner, Rev. Roger Riffe, and Rev. Blair Lyseski, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. York was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Staley High School, and a homemaker. She was a member of Kildee Wesleyan Church where she served as treasurer for many years.
Survivors include a son, Joseph York of the home; brother, Millard “Jay Bird” Hinson of Staley; and a sister, Lynda H. “Pennie” Kirkman of Asheboro.

DR. FLOY T. OLDHAM
Dr. Floy T. Oldham of Chapel Hill died Friday (05-16-2008) in UNC Memorial Hospital.
Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (05-20-2008) at the University Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Dunham officiating. Burial followed in the Lystra Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dr. Oldham was a native of Chapel Hill where he practiced dentistry for 44 years, and was involved in many community activities.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn C. Oldham; son, Floy T. Oldham III of Houston, TX; daughter, Kirsten O. Shaw of Chapel Hill; and sister, Geneverette Oldham of Durham.
Memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice.
WADE EDWARD LEE, SR.
Wade Edward Lee, Sr., 70, of Monroe died Tuesday (05-13-2008) at Carolina’s Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday (05-17-2008) at Alston Chapel UHC Church of Pittsboro, with Elder Omega T. Penny officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Lee, a former resident of Chatham County, was a member of Alston Chapel Church, attended J. S. Waters and Horton High School.
Survivors include sons, Wade E. Lee, Jr., Kelly Maurice Lee, both of Walda, MD; sisters, Peggy Davis, Ruby Gaskins, both Hillsboro; brothers, Joelle Lee, Donnie Lee, both of Washington, DC, Theodore Lee, Lawrence Lee of Pittsboro, Julius Lee, Walter Lee, both of Hillsboro; four grandsons and one great-grandson.
MRS. BETTY ROSALIE ROW
Betty R. Row, 81, of Pittsboro died Wednesday (05-14-2008) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Interment will be at a later date in West Virginia.
Mrs. Row was a native of Philippi, WV, and worked at the FBI in Washington, DC. She was a homemaker, did Reach to Recovery work for the Cancer Society, and was a Methodist by faith.
Survivors include her husband, John B. Row; daughter Johnna of Melbourne Beach, FL; son, Jeff Row of Canton, MI; and four grandchildren.

ANNA McCANN MAHONEY
Mrs. Anna McCann Mahoney, 86, of Chapel Hill died Thursday (05-15-2008) at her residence.
Funeral services will be announced soon.
WOODROW HILL
Woodrow Hill, 95, of Ramseur died Sunday (05-18-2008) at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living in Candor.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday (05-21-2008) with Rev. Richard Wright officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Hill was a native of Randolph County, retired from Gregson Furniture and saw mill work. He attended Corner Stone Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Maude Lee Hill; sons, Cecil Ray Hill, Jack Martin Gray, both of Randleman, Jimmy Gary Hill of Asheboro, David Jerome Hill of Farmer; daughters, Novie Elizabeth Hill Bray of Randleman, Doris Helen Hill York of Liberty, Blanche Ora Hill Cavender of Franklinville, Emily Jane Hill Owens of Farmer, Dorothy Mae Hill Brim of Asheboro; sisters, Ruth Dixon of Bynum, Lois Hackney of Moncure; 29 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

RICHARD D. PASCHAL
Mr. Richard Dalice “Hootie” Paschal, 83, died Thursday (05-08-2008) at the Chatham Hospital.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday (05-12-2008) at Gees Grove AME Zion Church with Rev. Allen Moore, Eulogist and Minister Reginald Tyson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Paschal was a native of Chatham County, a member of Gees Grove AME Zion Church, and was educated in Chatham County schools.
Survivors include his wife, Betty B. Paschal; daughters, Mrs. Sharon Cheek of Ramseur, Ms. Barbara Paschal of the home, Mrs. Janice Paschal, Mrs. Lecia Palmer, both of Greensboro; sons, Mr. Richard Paschal, Jr., Mr. Jerry Paschal, both of Bear Creek; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
MRS. CELIA PACKINGHAM
Mrs. Celia Packingham, 92 of Graham died Wednesday (05-14-2008) at Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (05-17-2008) at First Baptist Church in Graham. Burial followed in Linwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Packingham was a member of First Baptist Church in Graham.
Survivors include sisters, Mrs. Esther Marie McClain, Mrs. Vatie Siler, Miss Pauline Rodgers, all of Siler City, Mrs. Hannah Alston of Snow Camp; brothers, Mr. Marcellus Rodgers of Siler City, Mr. Roland Rodgers of Snow Camp, and Mr. Worth Rodgers of Pittsboro.
MRS. FLONNIE PATTERSON
Mrs. Flonnie Shoffner Patterson, 68, died Thursday (05-15-2008).
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (05-19-2008) at Jordan Grove AME Zion Church with Rev. Terry Bristow officiating. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include children, Gregory Patterson of the home, Norma Eubank of Level Cross, Sandra Parker of Durham, Rufus Patterson of Greensboro, Rodney Patterson of Liberty, Anita Lucas of Siler City; brother, Andre Alston of Burlington; 17 grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
WESLEY EUGENE GARNER
Wesley Eugene Garner of Siler City passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.
Wesley was born December 20, 1940 in Hamlet, North Carolina, son of Colon and Iona Smith Garner. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was loved dearly by his family and many friends. Wesley enjoyed spending his time with friends, traveling, golfing, working, cooking, and talking about his two grandsons. He worked at Brookwood Farms for over 35 years in a variety of roles and truly loved his job and work family. He was an active member of the Siler City Presbyterian Church and will be remembered for his friendliness and generosity.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dan Borovina of Santa Fe, New Mexico; his grandchildren, Daniel Joseph and William Wesley Borovina; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Kathy Garner of Hamlet; his nephew, Brent Garner, Brent’s wife Lesley and their daughter Hadley of Hamlet; his niece, Cynthia Humphrey, Cynthia’s husband Daron and their daughter Meredith of Holly Springs; his nephew, Billy Amerson of Greenville; and his nieces Amanda Davis and Jenna Barrow.
Wesley was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, JoAnn Amerson Garner and his son Wesley Stephen Garner.
The family would like to give special thanks to the many friends who have helped us through this time.
A visitation was scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith and Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at the Siler City Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Raleigh Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Siler City Presbyterian Church.
HARVEY DARK
Harvey Dark, son of the late Sherman and Sylvia Dark departed this life on Monday, May 19, 2008.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Dark.
He is survived by one son, Bradley N. Dark of Siler City; three sisters, JoAnn Foxx, Nancy Rodgers, Ella Alston; one aunt, Lizzie McClain; and one uncle, Prince A. Fox, both of Siler City.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Knotts & Sons Funeral Home in Siler City.
