JANIE KATE GAINES WILKIE
Janie Kate Gaines Wilkie died Monday, December 17, 2012. She was born November 30, 1921 in Chatham County, Goldston, to the late Carl R. Gaines, Sr. and Laura Belle Stinson Gaines.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Odell Wilkie; son, Frederick Odell Wilkie of Goldston; sisters, Josephine Brewer of Bear Creek, Gola Hunter and Cora Tillman, both of Sanford; brothers, Victor L. Gaines of Goldston, and H. David Gaines of Sanford.

Mrs. Wilkie was a member of Antioch Baptist Church on Bonlee-Carbonton Road in Goldston. She was a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver. She was also a great friend and neighbor and loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Faydene Goins and husband Maua of Goldston, Helen McDuffie of Sanford, Dale Calcutt and husband Jerry of Nashville NC; her son, Ronnie Wilkie and wife Debbie of Goldston; her daughter-in-law, Charlotte Allsup and husband Thurman of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Tim Wilkie, Natalie Davis, Laura Goode, Jessica Moore, Stephen McDuffie, Jaime Beavers, Brett Calcutt and Crystal Freeman; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Survivors also include sisters, Myrtle Wilkie of Goldston, Ruth Carty of Sanford, Iola Phillips and husband Bruce of Lexington, Joyce Wicker and husband Edward Jack of Sanford; brothers, Hubert Gaines and wife Peggy of Carthage, Carl R. Gaines, Jr. of Goldston, Homer E. Gaines and wife Toni of Atlanta, Georgia, George Gaines and wife Rachel of Hampstead, Eddie Gaines and wife Elaine of Siler City; many nieces, nephews, and members of the Gaines and Wilkie families.

Visitation was held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m..

A graveside service will be conducted at Antioch Baptist Church, Bonlee-Carbonton Roadin Goldston on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Bob Bulls. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

VERNON DEAN DREYER
Vernon Dean Dreyer of Pittsboro, died peacefully at age 97 on December 16, 2012 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC. Dean was born March 30, 1915 in Fergus Falls, MN, one of six children born to Johann (John) and Annah Bryson Dreyer.

Dean married Virginia E. Jones in Ypsilanti, MI on January 20, 1940. Ginny preceded him in death on March 1, 2006. Dean is survived by his son, Duane Dreyer of Durham; daughters, Joyce Baughman and Deborah Hinton of Pittsboro, Carol Kendall of High Point; grandchildren, Lori Franklin, Scott Dreyer, Jon Baughman, Ben Kendall; great-grandchildren, Eric Franklin, Ashlyn Kendall, Russ Dreyer; and sisters, Doris Hedge of Tucson, AZ and Helen Trussell of Alberta, Canada.

Dean graduated in 1932 from Mt. Horeb High School in Wisconsin. He received on-the-job training in tool & die work and advanced to become a plant engineer and then plant manager for several machinery companies. Dean and Ginny moved to North Carolina in 1977 after his retirement. He was a Past Master of Phoenix Masonic Lodge 13. His interests included woodworking, square dancing, restoring antique cars, and he was especially known for his story-telling.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Holt as well as the staff of Central Carolina Hospital for their exceptional care.

The family will receive visitors at Hall-Wynne funeral service in Pittsboro on Friday, December 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.. A Masonic graveside service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Chatham County Council on Aging at 365 NC87, Pittsboro NC 27312 or Chatham Animal Rescue & Education (CARE) at PO Box 610, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

MARJORIE PIKE JORDAN
Marjorie Pike Jordan, 74, of Zion Church Road, Staley died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, Burlington.

Mrs. Jordan was born in Chatham County on June 16, 1938, the daughter of George and Leola (Teague) Pike. Margie was employed at Collins & Aikman for 37 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City where she was a member of the Esther Sunday School Class. She enjoyed being outdoors, working with flowers, being at the beach with her family and spending time with her granddaughter. Margie was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank Pike.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Roy Buster Jordan; one daughter, Lisa J. Thompson and husband, Phil of Gibsonville; granddaughter, Claire Thompson; two sisters, Helen P. Guthrie of Staley, Carol Wrenn and husband Delbert of Siler City.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 21, 2012 from 1:30 -3 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church, 314 N. 2nd Avenue, Siler City.

A private graveside service will be held with Rev. Tony Capehart officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 314 N Second Avenue, Siler City or, the Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27220.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

ROBERTA BROWN TEAGUE
Roberta Brown Teague, 89, of Siler City died Tuesday, (12-04-2012) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Saturday, (12-08-2012) at 2 p.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Boyd officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Teague was born in Robbins on October 29, 1923, the daughter of James Madison and Blanche (Ray) Brown. She worked at Collins & Aikman for thirty-two years as a cloth inspector. A member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, she enjoyed reading and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady L. Teague, Sr; sons, Grady Te gue, Jr. and Richard Wayne Teague.

Survivors include daughters, Nell T. Caudle of McLeansville, Joyce T. Branson of Bear Creek, Jewel T. Hall of Gibsonville, Hilda T. Spivey of Bynum; sisters, Virginia McIntrye of Troy, Clara Saunders of Robbins, Elizabeth Poole of Sparta, Kay Elliott of Robbins, Rose Cassady of Brown Summit; brothers, Winfred Brown, David Brown, both of Robbins; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Loves Creek Baptist Church, 1745 East 11th Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

JACK HUDSON
Jack Hudson, 84, of Haw River died Saturday (12-08-2012) at his home.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, George Adam and Beulah Fox Hudson, his wife, Virginia “Jenny” Wicker; second wife, Kathy Martin; brothers, Clyde T. Hudson, Sr., Charles Murph “C.M.” Hudson, Cletus Hudson, George Junior Hudson and Hubert Hudson. Jack retired after 47 years with Kayser Roth.

Surviving are sons; Jackson M. Hudson of Bozeman. Montana, Christopher Hudson, Steven W. Hudson, Chad E. Hudson all of Haw River; sisters, Georgia H. Barth, Betty H. Albright Shirley H. Lindley; Joyce Bowers, Jean H. Dark, Faye H. McMath; brothers, Bobby Hudson, all of Siler City, Howard Hudson of Archdale; grandchildren, Katie, Jacob, Joshua and Jenny Hudson and two great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Wednesday, (12-10-2012) from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Andrew Needham officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

HAROLD FRANKLIN GILMORE
Mr. Harold Franklin Gilmore, 64, of Sanford, died Thursday, (12-06-2012), at his home.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, (12-11-2012) at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Burial followed at Moncure Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Gilmore was born in Lee County, on May 15, 1948, to the late John Marvin Gilmore and Annie Lou Clouis Cole Gilmore. He was a retired crane operator at Lee Iron and Metal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur Lee Gilmore, Roy Wayne Gilmore and a sister, Jonnie Carol Gilmore.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Carol Gunter Gilmore; sons, Joseph Harold Gilmore of Richmond, VA, John Anthony Gilmore of Sanford; daughter, Frankie Rene Gilmore of Sanford; brothers, Donnie Gilmore of Asheboro, Vernon Gilmore, Roger Gilmore, both of Sanford, John Gilmore, Jr. of Angier; sisters, Marvelene Corcoran of Nashville, TN, Shirley Thompson of Murfreesboro, TN, Barbara Graham of Olivia, Faye Hollady of Ramseur, Brenda Denkins of Sanford, Debbie O’Quinn of Broadway; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM CHARLES GRAHAM
William Charles Graham, 69, of Olivia died Wednesday (12-05-2012), at Central Carolina Hospital.

The funeral was held (12-08-2012) at, 11 a.m. at Olivia Presbyterian Church with Rev. George Walton presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Graham was born in Lee County, January 11, 1943, to the late Garland Judson Graham and Odell Godfrey Graham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Crissman and a sister, Carolyn Dalrymple. He served in the NC National Guard and was retired from the telephone company as an inspector.

He is survived by step-sons, Terry G. Thomas of Sanford, Ronnie Lee Thomas of Olivia, Ricky G. Thomas of Sanford; step-daughter Shelia McNeill of Shallotte; sister, Faye Hall of Spring Lake; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren;.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Lee County Unit, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.

CAROLYN ROBERTS GUINN
Mrs. Carolyn Roberts Guinn, 59, of Asheboro, died Saturday, (12-08-2012) at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, (12-10-2012) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she was a member with Rev. Russell Brownworth, and Rev. Chuck Rowland officiating. Burial followed in the Church cemetery.
Mrs. Guinn was a Randolph County native and had worked at Mastercraft Fabrics. She was a member of the Tri-County Ruritan Club.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Guinn of the home; son, David Guinn of the home; mother, Betty H. Teague of Asheboro; father, Willard Roberts of Asheboro; sister, Sabrina Sheffield of Bennett; brother; Jay Roberts of Eagle Springs.

MAY OLA GORDON KERR
May Ola Gordon Kerr, 83, of Sanford, died Saturday, (12-08-2012) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, (12-11-2012), at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Burns and Rev. Ira Smith officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Kerr was born in Chatham County, May 10, 1929, to the late James Warwick “Jim” Gordon and Nannie Mae Williams Gordon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Doyle Emerson Gordon. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was the church secretary for over forty years.

She is survived by a brother, James Gordon of Sanford; two sisters, Barbara Gordon Stanley of Sanford, and Martha Bright of Sanford.

SHIRLEY ANN SANFORD
Mrs. Shirley Ann Sanford died Sunday (12-02-2012).

Mrs. Sanford, a native of Alamance county, was born December 26, 1941 to Eugene and Gracie White. She was employed by Siler City Mills, Brookwood Farms and retired from home health work. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny D. Sanford, her parents, and brothers, James and Johnny White.

Survivors include daughters, Deborah Sanford, Laura Foxx, both of Siler City, Linda Headen of Ramseur; son, Tony Foxx of Ramseur; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Alston of Graham, Alice Tapp of Siler City, Georgia White or Ramseur, Helen Lloyd of Burlington; brothers, Wilson Eugene White of Mebane, Leroy White of Meadows, GA, Terry White of Ramseur, Larry White of North Wilkesboro, Thomas White of Tillery, and Ervin White of Mebane.

YOLONDA NICOLE WILLIAMS
Yolonda Nicole Williams-Rush died Friday (12-07-2012) at her home.

Born August 26, 1978 to Sandra K. Williams and Tommy F. Goldston, she was preceded in death by father.

Survivors include her husband, Jermone Rush of the home; children, Quentin L. Williams, Mason J. Rush, Jaquelyn Rush, all of the home; mother, Sandra K. Williams of Siler City; and brother, Tommy F. Goldston II of Chapel Hill.

CLIFFORD MARTIN, SR.
Mr. Clifford Martin, Sr. of Siler City died Saturday, (12-01-2012) at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral services were held Wednesday (12-05-2012) at 2 p.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church with burial in Chatham Memorial Park.

Mr. Martin was an auto mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Ella A. Martin of the home; son, Clifford Martin of Siler City; sisters, Pearl Headen, Alene Hatley, both of Siler City; brothers, James T. Martin of Siler City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FLOYD LEE INGOLD, SR.
Floyd Lee Ingold, Sr., 92, of 112 White Oak Drive, Siler City died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur.

Mr. Ingold was a native of Alamance County. In May of 1942, Floyd enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and after training, was assigned to the 5th Air Force, 90th Bombardment Group (“The Jolly Rogers”), 319th Squadron. From bases in New Guinea, he flew 32 combat missions as a Waist Gunner and Aircraft Engineer on B-24 Liberator bombers. Awards included the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart for injuries received in a crash landing. He returned to combat duty after three months recovering in an Australian hospital. He was discharged in August 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Floyd was employed with Kellwood Company, formerly Siler City Manufacturing, were he served in several management positions until his retirement in 1984 with thirty-three years of service. Floyd was a member of First Baptist Church of Siler City where he had served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and on various committees. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Irene Boswell Ingold; parents, Hubert and Leona Phillips Ingold; brother, Luther Ingold; and sister, Helen Ingold.

Surviving are daughter, Wanda Ingold of the home; son, Floyd “Buster” Ingold, Jr. and wife, Linda of Burlington; grandson, Kevin Ingold of Burlington; sister, Nellie Isley and husband, Harold, of Burlington.

The family received friends Monday, December 10, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December, 11, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Siler City, with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial was 2:30 p.m. in Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Siler City, 314 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344, or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 108 Village Lake Road, Siler City NC 27344.

JERRY DON HAYHURST
Jerry Don Hayhurst, 71, formerly of Pittsboro died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Mr. Hayhurst was born on July 12, 1941 in Sutton, W. VA., the son of Donald Arthur and Effie Maude (Carroll) Hayhurst. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and had been employed as a backhoe operator in the construction of water and sewer lines. Jerry was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by one daughter, Jeri Hayhurst Young and husband, Jeffrey of Pittsboro; one son, David A. Hayhurst and wife, Donna of Siler City; grandchildren, Trevor Hayhurst, Brooke Smith, Allie and Teigan Hayhurst; and one sister, Jeanie May of Charleston, W.VA.

No services will be held.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
