FAY RAY McLAUGHLIN

Faye Ray McLaughlin, 73, of1013 Candlewood Circle, Siler City, died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at home.

Mrs. McLaughlin was born August 17, 1939, the daughter of John Van and Mary Gertrude (Harris) Ray.

A native of Chatham County, Faye worked as a reception-PBX operator at Chatham Hospital and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Van Ray, and husbands, Bobby Clark and R. D. Dorsett.

She is survived by her husband, Daffy McLaughlin; sons, Donald and wife, Dela Clark of Snow Hill, Gerald and wife, Javetta Clark of Bear Creek; mother, Mary Gertrude (Harris) Ray of Siler City; sister, Brenda Saunders of Staley, step-daughter, Kathy and husband, Tim Gardner of Greensboro; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Monday, January 28, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny and Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating.

Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, P. O. Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344 or to Hospice of Alamance & Caswell Counties, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

EDWARD PETER KOLPACK

Edward Kolpack, 81, of Siler City and most currently of Hampstead, NC, died Friday, January 18, 2013 in New Hanover Regional Hospital, Wilmington, of complications following a heart attack.

A service of remembrance was held at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Kolpack was born May 1, 1931 in Trenton, NJ.

He was one of six children born to Carl and Veronica Kolpack.

He served in the Sea Bee’s (Navy) for four years and later along with this wife, owned and managed a building/contracting business in New Jersey, beginning in 1956.

In 1973, he along with the family moved to the Siler City area.

He and his wife continued the business until retirement in 2002.

Mr. Kolpack enjoyed the coast and moved to Pender County in 2010.

He lived with his dogs, Sunny and Clipper.

Mr. Kolpack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Kolpack; daughter, Linda C. Kolpack-Martindale and two grandsons, Lane and Preston Martindale, all of Siler City.

He is also survived by his brother Albert Kolpack, several nieces and nephews and sister-in-laws, all of NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Chatham Food Pantry, 126 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344, or Chatham Cares Pharmacy, 127 East Raleigh Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

JERRY RAY BROWN

Jerry Ray Brown, 53, of Ramseur died at his residence.

Mr. Brown was born in Chatham County on May 31, 1959 the son of Fields Freeman and Betty Ann (Beal) Brown.

He was a 1978 graduate of Chatham Central High School and had been employed at Ramtex in the supply room.

Jerry never met a stranger.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don (Magic) Brown.

He is survived by one son, Kenneth R. Brown and wife, Heather of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Joan B. Cockman and husband, Mike of Franklinville, Doan B. Clark and husband, Vernon of Siler City; twin brother, Terry Brown and wife, Annette of Franklinville; brother, Todd Brown and wife, Amy of Bear Creek; granddaughters, Raylyn, Aurora, Temperance; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and other times at the home of Doan and Vernon Clark, 1002 Parkwood Drive, Siler City.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edward Brown officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

CECILIA RENEE PRITCHARD DOUGLAS
MADISON RENEE DOUGLAS
RYLEE CAROL DOUGLAS

Cecilia Renee Douglas, 33, Madison Renee Douglas, 4, and Rylee Carol Douglas, 3, of Immokalee, formerly of Eustis, FL passed away due to an automobile accident that occurred on Monday, January 21, 2013.

Cecilia was born in Siler City, and was a graduate of North Greenville University where she majored in Mass Communications, Christian Studies, and Childhood Development.

While at Greenville, she was a Cheerleading Coach, University Student Activities Director and on the Annual Staff.

Dr. Catherine Cook Sepko of NGU wrote, “When she was the editor of the 2001 Aurora, she penned words that have now proven to be prophetic.

As she closed the editor’s closing letter, she wrote, “Always seek His face and appreciate each day.

Your days are numbered and will most certainly pass in the blink of an eye.”

She moved to Eustis in 2006 from South Carolina and was the Children’s Minister at Bay Street Baptist Church.

She and Nathan Douglas married and started their family.

Madison was born in 2008 and Rylee in 2010.

The family moved to Immokalee in 2010.

Cecilia was co-manager at an Ann Taylor Factory Store in Sunrise, FL while Nathan is a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer.

They were all members of the First Baptist Church of Mount Dora.

Cecilia and the girls are survived by husband and father, Nathaniel M. Douglas; Cecilia’s parents, Jimmy (Rita) Pritchard of Piedmont, SC, and Priscilla (Frankie) Thompson of Liberty; Nathan’s parents, Mark and Karen Douglas of Tavare, FL.

Cecilia’s brothers, Matthew (Deedee) Pritchard of Pelzer, SC, Ryan Gromlovits of Orlando, FL; Cecilia’s sisters, Mackenzie (Matthew) Carrier of Wilmington, Stephanie Thompson of Siler City; Cecilia’s local uncles and aunts: Jim (Ruth) Brewer, H.L. (Betty) Brewer of Bear Creek, Robert (Hazel) Brewer of Asheboro; Ann Thrift, Joan (Russell) Webster, Merlyn (Larry) Moody of Siler City, Judy (James) Freeman of Pleasant Garden; Cecilia’s niece and nephew, Isabella and Bolton Pritchard; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

Service for the three was held at First Baptist Church, Mount Dora, FL on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2 p.m.

Interment followed at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis, FL.

The family received friends from 12 till 2 p.m. prior to the service.

A celebration of their lives will be held Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church, Airport Road, Bear Creek with the Rev. Alan Stanley officiating.

KATHRYN ANNE MARSH

On Friday, January 25, 2013 Little Miss Kathryn Anne Marsh became an angel with God.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Ken McFadden and Leslie Marsh; four brothers, Tristan, Trevor, Tatum and Tanner; grandparents, Edd and Gaylene Marsh; lots of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home assisted the family.

PEGGY LAVERNE BURKE

Peggy Laverne Burke transformed to her most Divine Dimension of God and Light on Saturday, January 26, 2013.

Her Love of Life and Peace will be forever reflected in her sculpture and paintings.

Peggy is predeceased by her parents, Johnie and Elsie Burke of Pittsboro.

She will be remembered lovingly by family and friends.

received wonderful care over the years from her primary physician Elizabeth R. Vaughan, MD, Verra Springs Assisted Living, Woodland Place and from her last home at Golden Living, all of Greensboro.

Arrangements will be handled by Hall-Wynne in Pittsboro.

She will be buried next to her parents in a graveside ceremony at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ, at 11 a.m., February 2, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ or to any of the wonderful organizations helping animals.

CLARENCE WAYNE HATLEY

Clarence Wayne Hatley, age 75, of Pittsboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the home of his daughter in North Charleston, SC.

A native of Chatham County, he was born on November 4, 1937, the son of the late Clarence Leo Hatley and Lollie Hobby.

Two brothers, Thomas William Hatley and Larry Cheek Hatley, preceded him in death.

Described by many as a “good friend,” he loved to help people in practical ways and did so selflessly.

He enjoyed being outside and gardening.

Mechanically gifted, he was a master craftsman.

Vocationally, he worked in HVAC, retiring from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools after 25+ years of service in 2001.

Survivors include daughter, Wanda Hatley Litchenberg (Jeff) of North Charleston, SC and her mother, Carolyn Mishoe Hatley; two sisters, Sara Ann Oakley of Chapel Hill, Rena Hatley Perry (Clyde) of Pittsboro; sister-in-law, Jane Neville Hatley of Chapel Hill; one niece, three nephews, four great-nieces and five great-nephews.

A graveside service honoring Mr. Hatley will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 269 Manns Chapel Road, Pittsboro.

Following the service, friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to your local hospice (www.hospicefoundation.org) or the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

THOMAS R. “FUZZ” CULBERSON

Thomas R. “Fuzz” Culberson, 55, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at his residence on Siler City-Snow Camp Road.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hoyle H. Culberson.

Survivors include his wife, Marcie Culberson; his mother, Josephine Culberson; sister, Jane Gray and husband, Ike; nephew, Daniel W. Gray and wife, Shannon; and lifelong friend, Tony Allred.

Arrangements were by the Cremation Society of N.C.
