THOMAS WATTS “T.W.” CAMPBELL, JR.
Thomas Watts “T.W.” Campbell, Jr., 81, of Sanford, died Tuesday, (07-16-2013), at his home. The funeral was held at Barbecue Presbyterian Church on Friday, (07-19-2013), at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sandy Williams presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery Mr. Campbell was born in Moore County, on April 1, 1932, to the late Thomas Watts Campbell and Flora Dula Campbell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Thomas Watts Campbell, III and sisters, Marguerite Campbell Nagy and Gwyn Campbell Dixon. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired from civil service as Chief of Metrology (the science of weights and measures). He was a member of Barbecue Presbyterian Church. Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruby Sullivan Campbell of the home; daughters, Ethel Campbell of Pittsboro, Gloria Radkiewicz of Aberdeen, MD, April Annette Mason of Sanford, René Oakman; sisters, Theresa Campbell Cocolin of Sanford, Billie Campbell Hickox of Callahan, FL; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM DeHART
William DeHart of Fearrington Village, died Monday, (07-15-2013), while vacationing in Oriental. Services were held Tuesday, (07-23-2013) at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Family Episcopal. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date at a family plot in Concord. Bill was born August 29, 1931 to James and Lois Guffy DeHart in Durham. He was commissioned an Ensign at the United States Naval Academy and served as a naval officer for 24 years. He is survived by his sister, Jean DeHart Spach of Oak Ridge, TN; his wife, Frances Roberts DeHart of Fearrington Village; sons, Peyton of Chapel Hill, William Jr. of Raleigh; daughter, Sara Young of Greensboro; and five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Family, 200 Hayes Road, Chapel Hillor a charity of choice.

SIDNEY JAY CADE
Sidney Jay Cade, 53, of Goldston died Thursday, (07-18-2013) at his residence. A graveside service was held Saturday, (07-20-2013 at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Cade was born in Chatham County on July 13, 1960, the son of Parrott Junior and Colleen (Johnson) Cade. Sidney had worked at Hadley Peoples Manufacturing as a loom operator. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Colleen (Johnson) Cade of the home; brothers: Travis Cade and Hodge Cade, both of Goldston.

MILTON PALMER HARRINGTON
Mr. Milton Palmer Harrington, 85, of Sanford, died Thursday, (07-18-2013) at Central Carolina Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, (07-20-2013) at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs U.M.C. with Rev. Fallon Melvin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Harrington was born in Lee County on June 20, 1928 to the late Max Pell Harrington and Daisy Mansfield Harrington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Willis and Lemuel Harrington. He served our country in the United States Army and worked as a tobacco farmer. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Johnson Harrington; son, Max C. Harrington of Sanford; daughter Vicky Clark of Sanford; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs U.M.C., 1809 Poplar Springs Church Road, Sanford, NC 27330.

HEISKELL ERNEST “H.E.” SMITH
Heiskell Ernest “H. E.” Smith, 90, formerly of Siler City, died (07-20-2013) at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living Center in Pittsboro. Funeral services were held Tuesday, (07-23-2013) at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, with Pastor Pastor Bobby Shutt and Dr. Harold Venable officiating. Burial will follow at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born August 11, 1922 to Hugh White Smith and Vivian Heiskell Smith. He had worked in construction, welding, log cutting, insurance, farming, sales and had been owner, operator of Randy’s Grill in Siler City. He attended Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a step-brother, Claudiaus Wrenn Brewer. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Kathleen Fox Smith; daughters Margaret Smith Young, Carolyn Smith Handley, both of Siler City; sons, Ernest, Ronald, Mike, Donald, all of Siler City, Randy of Bear Creek; brothers, Roman, Leonard, Clayton; sister, Anna Marie Smith; step-sister, Virginia McGinnis of Phoenix, AZ.; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Cambridge Hills Assisted Living Center or Faith Baptist Church.

DANIEL CARL “DAN” DUNLAP
Mr. Daniel Carl “Dan” Dunlap 86, of Carthage, passed away Sunday, (07-21-2013) at his home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, (07-23-2013) at 2 p.m at Glendon Independent Christian Church with Rev. Joe Johnson and Rev. Bill Cooper officiating. The burial followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Dunlap was a Moore County native, and had spent his life farming. He was a member of Glendon Independent Christian Church where he served as a deacon. Survivors include daughters, Sara Nell Dunlap Dull of Whispering Pines, Iris Dunlap Davis of Whispering Pines; sons, William Dunlap of Robbins, Rex Dunlap of Putnam, Tim Dunlap of Carthage; grandchildren, Quint Dunlap, Greg Dull, Robb Davis, Thadd Davis, Luke Davis, Lee Dunlap, Courtney Dunlap, Whitney Dunlap, Christopher Johnston; great-grandchildren, Holden Dunlap, Damian Dull; and sister, Lynnie Dunlap Comer of Star.

MILTON ELBERT “BUCK” HUSSEY
Milton Elbert “Buck” Hussey 65, of Robbins went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, (07-21-2013) at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. There will be no formal service but there was a celebration of his life on Tuesday, (07-23-2013) at 1 pm in the Family Life Center at Smyrna United Methodist Church where he was a member. Mr. Hussey was the son of the late Lendo Elbert “Pete” and Thelma C. Hussey, and he worked as a fixer in the textiles industry. Survivors include his wife, Judy G. Hussey of the home; daughter, Tara H. Hackney of Robbins; son, Mark Hussey of Robbins; two grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann Myrick of Star, and Martha Martin of Denton. His request was no flowers, but make donations to FirstHealth Hospice or Smyrna UMC Cemetery fund.

COY ATLAS BROWN
Coy Atlas Brown, 91, of Siler City crossed the Great Divide Thursday morning, July 18, 2013 at his home. A native of Chatham County, he was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving his country as an Army-Air Corps B-24 mechanic in World War II, including a three-year tour in India. He later worked as a tractor/farm equipment salesman with Johnson Cotton Company in Siler City and Raeford. He was part-owner of Brown-Fuquay Enterprises. After he retired, he sold insurance and advertising novelties. A member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church, he was an usher, a member of the church Brotherhood, the Golden Agers, and a committee member of the Don Moody Benevolent Fund. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Ina Brown; wives, Lois D. Brown, Fern W. Brown; sisters, Hilda Brewer, Myrtle Teague; and brothers, Clint, Howard, Lynn, Colon and Buster. Surviving is his daughter, Shirley B. Wachs and husband Bob; two grandchildren, Suzanne W. Jones and husband Steve of Pittsboro, Joseph B. Wachs and wife Amanda of Bear Creek; great grandchildren, Jackson and Elizabeth; brother Norman Brown and wife Mary Lea. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Sandy Branch Church, with the Rev. Marc Sanders, the Rev. Bob Wachs, and the Rev. Val Chadwick officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Don Moody Benevolent Fund of Sandy Branch Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

JOE LEE WALTERS
Joe Lee Walters, 85, of Siler City passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at his home. A funeral service was held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Loflin Funeral Home Chapel; burial followed in Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He was the son of the late Benjamin Troy and Orpha Laura Faulkner Walters and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lee Walters, two sisters and three brothers. Surviving are his daughters, Connie Ferguson (Melvin), Jackie Brown (Sam) of Siler City; son, Jerry Walters (Annette) of Siler City; four grandchildren, James Mize (Shannon), Doug Mize (Christina), Katina Ferguson (Chris), Joseph Walters and ten great-grandchildren.

GEORGE CURTIS PHILLIPS
George Curtis Phillips, 80, a resident of Trinity, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 20, 2013, following a brief illness. George was born February 22, 1933 in Bear Creek, N.C., a son of Charlie and Julie Phillips. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was truly proud to serve his country. He was a faithful servant to God and was a long time member of Gospel Baptist Church in Archdale, N.C., where he served as deacon. His church family was his extended family, whom he loved very much. George enjoyed doing volunteer work for his church and cherished memories of helping people in need. George was self-employed and worked with his wife Shirley. They owned and operated Glen’s Monogram for many years. They enjoyed many new friendships with their business travels. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard, Howard, Calvin, and Kelly; and sisters, Alice Gaines, Alberta Cockman, Pauline Wilson, and Geneva Lowe. On July 4th, 1953, he married Shirley Harris, who survives, of the home. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Danny C. Phillips and wife Kathy of Trinity, Dennis Phillips of Greensboro; a daughter, Sherry Malone and Keith of Trinity; grandchildren include Brian Phillips of Jamestown, Lori Holt of Archdale, Jennifer Newkirk of Kernersville, Shane Malone of Tennessee, Brantley Malone of Trinity; Also five great grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and nine step-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gospel Baptist Church in Archdale, with Pastor Tim White and Pastor Frank Gribble officiating. Interment followed in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday At Cumby Family funeral service in Archdale from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to: Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements by Cumby Family funeral service of Archdale.

SARAH FREELAND PERRY
Sarah Freeland Perry, 81, of 2146 Bowers Store Road, Siler City died Monday, July 22, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Perry was born in Orange County on February 4, 1932, the daughter of John and Jessie (Secrest) Freeland. She was a member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church where she helped with Vacation Bible School. She retired from Kellwood, Inc. after 20 years of service. For over ten years, she cared for homebound seniors, which she truly enjoyed. She enjoyed reading her Bible, and visiting in the nursing homes. She always welcomed and received everyone with a smile. She had a great love for her family, children and grandchildren. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Fred (Buck) Perry; her parents; brother, Johnny Freeland, Jr.; and sister, Elizabeth F. Herdegen. She is survived by one daughter, Sylvia P. Tant; one son:, Mel Perry and wife Wilma; grandchildren, Kenneth Hayes, Cynthia Mote, Timothy Pendergrass and wife, Sheila; great-grandchildren, Carrie Mote, Corey Mote, all of Siler City; and brother, Billy Freeland of Chapel Hill. The family would like to express their appreciation to the special care givers that helped with Sarah during the nine and half years of her declining health, Wanda Stuart, Cynthia Mote, Amber Dixon, Carrie Mote, Janie Lindley and Melissa Smith. Also thanks to a special Hospice CNA, Krystal Wells, who was always smiling when she entered the room, bringing joy to Sarah. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and other times at the family home. The funeral will be Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Jamie Pearce and Rev. William Fields officiating. Burial will follow in the Perry Family Cemetery. Memorials may be made to breast cancer research or a charity of donor’s choice.

LOUISE HAYES McNEILL
Louise Hayes McNeill, 59, of Ramseur, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 18, 2013 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m.. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with Dr. Russell Brownworth and Rev. Chuck Rowland officiating. Burial followed at Deep River Baptist Church. She was a native of Randolph County, worked for Aflac Insurance and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Louise was blessed with great talent and a beautiful singing voice, having performed at many weddings, funerals, and at church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Grace Hicks Hays. Survivors include her husband, Walter McNeill of the home; daughter, Amy Roth and husband Darryl of Coleridge; son, Alan McNeill of the home; sisters, Carlene Lucas, Martha Moore and husband Ronnie, Mabel Sykes and husband Pete, Bonnie Lambe, all of Asheboro; brothers, Paul Hayes of Asheboro, Frank Hayes and wife Belinda of Asheboro; grandchildren, Allyson Roth, Brittany Roth, Tyler Roth, Dylan Roth, Gracie McNeill, and three great-grandchildren.
