Elizabeth "Beth" M. Earp
Elizabeth "Beth" Michelle Earp, 27, of Wendell, died Monday afternoon, March 14, 2005, at UNC Hospital from complications of cystic fibrosis. funeral service was Wednesday, March 16, at Central Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was born April 26, 1977. She was a 1995 graduate of East Wake High School and attended Louisburg College. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bill and Lucille Earp, and maternal grandfather, Milburne E. Edwards.
Surviving: parents, Grady and Jackie Earp; maternal grandparents, Jacqueline and George Seay of Walnut Cove; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Katherine Williams Sherron
Katherine Williams Sherron, 85, of Zebulon, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at WakeMed after a brief illness. funeral service was Thursday, March 17, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Youngsville. Burial was at Beulah Christian Baptist Church cemetery, Zebulon.
She was born in Johnston County Nov. 8, 1919, daughter of the late Isaac Newton Williams and Mamie Ball Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Nello Sherron Sr.; son, James Nello Sherron; three sisters; and one brother.
Surviving: sons, John Waldo Sherron and wife Betty of Zebulon, Joel Nello Sherron Jr. and wife Anna of Kittrell, Walter Thomas Sherron and wife Susan of Franklinton; daughters, Maude Patricia Carter of Raleigh, Martha Ann Weathers and husband Bobby of Louisburg, Bonnie Sue Lockleair and husband Rudy of Zebulon; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia W. Southworth of Charlotte.

Virginia Thompson Owens
Virginia Thompson Owens, 71, of Raleigh, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at her home. funeral service was Saturday, March 19, at L. Harold Poole funeral service chapel. Burial was at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton, Ga.
She was born February 6, 1934, in New Orleans, La., daughter of the late Silas Lavel Thompson and Ada Russell Thompson. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Women in Electronics and Order of the Eastern Star. She retired from Sears and was also office manager at TMS.
Surviving: husband, Bobby Lester Owens Sr.; son, Bobby Lester Owens Jr. of Bath; daughters, Virginia O. Blair and husband John of Thaxton, Va., Beki O. Holloway and husband Mike of Raleigh; granddaughters, Amanda Leigh Roberts and husband Joe of Durham, Cynthia Ann Sorrentino of Raleigh; great-grandson, Jackson Roberts.

She was a Franklin County native born January 23, 1916, daughter of the late Callie Denton and Florence Burnette Denton. She was the widow of Roy Lee Shearin. She retired from Carolina Sportswear and was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.

Charles Edward Bright III, 50, of Spring Hope, died Monday, March 14, 2005, in an automobile accident. funeral service was Friday, March 18, at Bright Funeral Home chapel.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Dorothy Rang Bright and Charles E. Bright Jr. He was a diesel mechanic for Triad Mack and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Charles W. Ray
Charles W. Ray of Greensboro died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at WakeMed. Funeral was Saturday, March 19, at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Greensboro.
He had served with the N.C. Highway Patrol from 1950-1959 in Chatham County and was with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation from 1959, retiring in 1983. He was a special agent for the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, stationed in Ahoskie, for eastern North Carolina until 1972. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a native of Greensboro and attended Greensboro High School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Richardson Ray; and son, Jimmy Lyndon Ray.
Surviving: sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Phillip and Patti of Cary, Ronald William and Elaine Ray of Wendell, Thomas Jeffrey and Elizabeth Ray of Raleigh; brother, Jack D. Betty Etchells
Betty Etchells, 94, of Raleigh, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at Springmoor Retirement Community after a brief illness. funeral service was Thursday, March 17, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home chapel, St. Mary's Street, Raleigh. Burial was at Montlawn Memorial Park.
She was born July 10, 1910, in Lynchburg, Va., daughter of the late Beulah Barnard and Hubert Coleman Adkerson. She attended public school there before obtaining a degree in physical education from UNC Greensboro. She returned to Lynchburg where she taught P.E. at Randolph-Macon College and later at Meredith College in Raleigh.
In 1940, she married John Lincoln Etchells, who preceded her in death in 1981. She served as president of the PTA at Fred Olds School and president of the Raleigh PTA Council in 1955. She also headed the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Golden Age Club. For several years, she taught math at Martin Junior High School. After her children left home, she traveled with her husband to England, Spain, Morocco, Greece, Tunisia and Panama. After her husband's death, she continued traveling and visited other countries throughout Europe, including Germany. During her 70s, she returned to her favorite sport, swimming, and became a master swimmer with the Raleigh Masters Swim Team. She won numerous state and national medals, and was named Wendy's "N.C. Athlete of the Week."

Marshall Bennett Strickland, 78, of Winston-Salem, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral was Saturday, March 19, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, Winston-Salem. Graveside service was Sunday, March 20, at Central Baptist Church cemetery, Wendell.
He was born Sept. 26, 1926, son of the late George W. and Bertie C. Strickland, formerly of Wendell.
Surviving: wife, Charlene Strickland; brother, Curtis Strickland of Raleigh; son, Michael Strickland of Wilson's Mills; daughters, Kaye Snyder of Knightdale, Nancy Massey of Wake Forest; stepdaughter, Cheryl Carlson of Rockford, Ill.; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren.
