Surviving: daughter, Jazmin Hodge, age 17; several other family members.

J. Lenard Boykin
James Lenard Boykin, 83, of Wendell, died Sunday morning, March 20, 2005, at Duke Healthcare Raleigh Hospital. funeral service was Tuesday, March 22, at Strickland Funeral Home chapel, Wendell. Burial was at Salem Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
He was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Johnston County, son of the late John Wesley Boykin and Myrtie Jane Barnes Boykin. He worked with the Wake County Public School System and the state in the maintenance department. He was a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Earp; and brothers, W.M. and Thomas Boykin.
Surviving: daughter, Sandra Pearl Smith of Edgewater, Fla.; son, James "Jimmy" Lenard Boykin Jr. and wife Sue of Wendell; sister, Barbara Nell Strickland and husband Coleman of Kenly; grandchildren, Jennifer and Barbie Boykin.
Bertie Mae Moore Hall
Bertie Mae Moore Hall, 77, of Dunn, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Parrish Nursing Center. funeral service was Monday, March 21, at Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel, Benson. Burial was at Elevation United Methodist Church cemetery.
She was born June 4, 1927, in Harnett County, daughter of the late Sherman and Ida Capps Moore. She was a homemaker and retired from Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Hall; sons, David Brent Hall and Donald Ray Hall; sisters, Pauline M. Gallion and Sarah Williams; and brother, J.D. Moore.
Surviving: daughters, Linda Bowden and Lucinda "Cindy" Moore, both of Benson, Lois Norris of Knightdale; sons, John Douglas Hall of Winterhaven, Fla., Ronald Earl Hall of Bartow, Fla., Jerry Thomas Hall of New London; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
Rachel Bunn Medlin
Rachel Bunn Medlin, 79, of Spring Hope, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Nash Grove Manor. funeral service was Monday, March 21, at Peachtree Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was born July 26, 1925, in Franklin County, daughter of the late Joseph and Beulah Mavis Coppedge Bunn. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Earl Medlin; and sister, Lessie Gray Livvy.
Surviving: husband, Charlie R. Medlin of the home; daughter, Dorothy Dale Radford of Knightdale; sons, John Robert Medlin and Kenneth Wayne Medlin, both of Spring Hope; sister, Edna Mavis Whitman of Rocky Mount; brother, Thomas David Bunn of Rocky Mount; granddaughters, Rachel Dale Whitman, Sylvia Jane Radford, Riba Huerta Medlin.

Evelyn Currin Bailey
Evelyn Currin Bailey, 80, of Wake Forest, died Thursday morning, March 17, 2005, at her home. funeral service was Saturday, March 19, at Rolesville Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was born in Vance County, daughter of the late Maude Andrew West Currin and Weldon Currin, and was preceded in death by her husband, E. Norris Bailey.
Surviving: sons, Ronnie R. Bailey and wife Carole of Louisburg, Tommie L. Bailey and wife Kay of Wake Forest; sisters, Mabel C. Edwards of Wake Forest, Sallie Wood of Castalia, Frances Faulkner of Richmond, Va.; brothers, Perry W. Currin of Louisburg, W.A. Currin of Henderson; grandchildren, Rodney Norris Bailey, Rhonda Gail Blackmon, Wendy Dale Green, Michael L. Bailey, Lori Bailey; seven great-grandchildren.

Larry Charles Rand
Larry Charles Rand of Knightdale died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Rex Healthcare. funeral service was Tuesday, March 22, at Wake Baptist Grove Church, Garner. Burial was at Carolina Biblical Gardens, Raleigh.
He was born January 4, 1953. He was a member of Wake Baptist Grove Church. He attended Garner Consolidated, North Garner, and graduated from Garner Senior High. He was a star guard on the Garner Senior High varsity basketball team. After high school, he served 13 years in the U.S. Army as a medical specialist. He received his nursing degree at Johnston Community College. He worked as a nurse at Central Prison for 11 years. After that, he joined The News & Observer as a district manager and was promoted to senior district manager. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Deloris Rand.
Surviving: wife of 15 years, Stella "Diane" Rand; sons, Christopher Rand and Melquan Cozart-Rand, both of Raleigh; daughters, Crystal Pascascio (Dilbert) of Basehor, Kan., Ericka Tesley of Knightdale; father, Billy C. Rand of Garner; sisters, JoAnn Peterson (Tony) of Clayton, Dawn Blue (Greg), Regina McAllister (Otis) and Billie Rand, all of Garner; 13 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Helen Leonard Price, 88, of Wake Forest, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Sunnybrook Alzheimer's and Health Care Center. funeral service was Tuesday, March 22, at Bright Funeral Home chapel, Wake Forest. Entombment was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
She was born in Davidson County, the daughter of the late John Hollis Leonard and Gertrude Mason Leonard. She was a member of Forestville Baptist Church and was married to William Jasper Price who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Leonard.
Surviving: daughters, Shirley P. Jackson and husband Harvey of Raleigh, Billie P. Broughton and husband Forest Jr. of Zebulon; sister, Mildred Mangum of Hampton, Va.; grandchildren, Debra Goetze, Cheryl Bunch, Jackie Haley, Leigh Anders; nine great-grandchildren.

Donald Lewis Carter
Donald Lewis Carter, 64, of Spring Hope, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Rex Healthcare after a long, courageous battle with cancer. funeral service was Wednesday, March 9, at Rocky Cross Holiness Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
A native of Warren County, he was born Oct. 20, 1940, the son of the late Palmer Carter and Elizabeth Cline.
Surviving: wife of 22 years, Dianne Massey Carter of the home; brothers, Joe Carter and wife Gail of Raleigh, Pete Carter and wife Pat of Benson, Clifton Carter and wife Alice of Norlina; sister, Sue Reid and husband Danny of Raleigh; godsons, Patrick and Grant Massey.

Wayne Bunn Modlin
Wayne Bunn Modlin, 60, of Spring Hope, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at his home. Burial was Tuesday, March 8, on his farm.
He was the son of the late Gwen Bunn Modlin and Grover Davis Modlin. He was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated from Wesleyan College and served the state as a veterans representative for 30 years with the Employment Security Commission. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount. A lifelong resident of Rocky Mount, he and his wife moved to their home and farm at Spring Hope when he retired in 2002.
Surviving: wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Campbell Modlin of the home; stepdaughter, Kimberly Lucas of the home; daughters, Georgia Lynne Modlin of Orlando, Fla., Leigh Modlin Clise and husband Gunnery Sgt. Charles Clise of Jacksonville, their 3-year-old daughter Charleston and son, Keagan Patrick, to be born in May.
