Howard Primrose Carpenter Sr.

Howard Primrose Carpenter Sr., 91, of New Bern, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Bayview Nursing Center. Memorial service was Tuesday, March 15, at First Presbyterian Church. Entombment was at Greenleaf Memorial Park with military honors and Masonic honors by St. John's Lodge No. 3.

He was a retired florist and owner of Carpenter's Florist for more than 50 years, was a veteran of World War II, and served in the U.S. Army as a captain. He graduated from New Bern High School and attended East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a 50-year member of St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 3.

Surviving: wife, Martha Lois Youngblood Carpenter of the home; son, Howard P. Carpenter Jr. and wife Jan of Raleigh; daughters, Diane Carpenter Best of New Bern, Joy Carpenter Wiley and husband James of New Bern, Martha Carpenter Robinson of Aurora; sister, Mildred Carpenter "Billie" Slater of New Bern; 10 grandchildren, including Dennee B. Griffin of Knightdale; nine great-grandchildren, including Sarah and Paige Griffin of Knightdale.

Margaret E. Medlin

Margaret E. Medlin, 78, of Bunn, died Friday, March 11. Funeral was Monday, March 14, at Lancaster Memorial Park Funerals chapel. Burial was at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Wade H. Gill

Wade H. Gill of Wake Forest died Thursday, March 11. Funeral was Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Feggins-Feggins Funeral Home chapel, Wake Forest. Burial was at New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery, Rolesville.

Anna Marie Jones Brewer

Anna Marie Jones Brewer of Wendell died Saturday, March 12. funeral service was Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Lea Funeral Home. Burial was at Riley Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Surviving: daughter, Pamela B. Eady of Raleigh; sons, Daniel L. Brewer of Wendell, Christopher A. Brewer of the home; sisters, the Rev. Ruby Jenkins of Raleigh, Betty Ramey of Henderson; brothers, James Jones of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren; Sylvia Griffin of Raleigh; a host of other relatives and friends.

Pattie Grace Whichard McGuyrt

Pattie Grace Whichard McGuyrt, 65, of Wake Forest, died suddenly Sunday, March 13, 2005. funeral service will be Thursday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Bright Funeral Home chapel, Wake Forest. Burial will be in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

She was born in Martin County. She worked for Kmart before joining the family business, McGuyrt Produce Co. After 25 years in the family business, she retired and had worked for Wal-Mart the past five years. She was preceded in death by her father, William Henry Whichard.

Surviving: sons, James William McGuyrt and wife Sandra S. of Raleigh, Roger Allen McGuyrt of Wake Forest, Troy Lynn McGuyrt and wife Sandra S. of Zebulon, David Herbert McGuyrt and wife Tracey E. of Raleigh; mother, Lula Mae Warren Whichard; brothers, Charles Whichard, Frankie Whichard; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews.

Opal Rider Trent

Opal Rider Trent, 81, died Thursday, February 17, 2005, at Britthaven Nursing Home, Louisburg. funeral service was Monday, February 21, at Bright Funeral Home chapel, Wake Forest. Entombment was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

She was born in West Virginia, daughter of the late Ida Boner Rider and David Lee Rider. She was retired from the N.C. Department of Revenue. She was married to James Richard Trent who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, James Michael Cutlip.

Surviving: daughter, Dixie Trent Cutlip of Burlington, Patricia Avsec of Winter Haven, Fla., Sandra Trent Watkins of Zebulon; son, Larry Richard Trent of Knightdale; sisters, Millie Sparks, Doris Mourey and Beulah Branham, all of Summersville, W.Va., Bernice Rader of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Harry Rider of Florsville, Texas; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Robert Crudup Jr.

Robert Crudup Jr., 69, of Bunn, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005. Funeral was Saturday, February 19, at Bunn Chapel Baptist Church. Burial was at Gethsemane Baptist Church cemetery.

Randy W. Humes, 32, of Spring Hope, died Monday, February 14, 2005. Funeral was Thursday, February 17, at Spring Hope Funeral Home chapel.

Burial was at Spring Hope Memorial Gardens.

Naomi B. Dargan

Naomi B. Dargan, 85, of Henderson, died Sunday, February 13, 2005. Graveside service was Thursday, February 17, at Zion Spring Disciple Church cemetery.

Sigma Clyde Wall

Sigma Clyde Wall, 81, of Knightdale, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Rex Healthcare after many months of declining health. funeral service was Friday, February 25, at Knightdale Baptist Church. Burial was at New Knightdale Baptist Church cemetery, Knightdale.

He was born May 12, 1923, in Wake County, son of the late Herbert Clyde Wall and Clyde Mae Medlin Wall. He retired with 40 years of service with CP&L; in customer service. He was a faithful member for 54 years at Knightdale Baptist Church and was a member of the Watson Memorial Sunday School Class. He served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II.

Surviving: wife, Frances Bunn Wall; sons, Randy Sigma Wall and wife Cathy of Knightdale, Freddy Vann Wall and longtime girlfriend Diane Martin of Knightdale; daughters, Judy W. Jones and husband Bob of Wendell, Cindy W. Haskin and husband Jay of Cary; grandchildren, Justin Jones and wife Sherry, Jody Jones, Jessica Jones, Matthew Wall, Lucas Wall, Jaylyn Haskin, Anna Haskin; great-grandson, Tyler Mullins; brothers, Waylon Wall of Garner, Herbert Wall and Curtis Wall, both of Raleigh, Talmadge Wall of Knightdale, Tracy Wall of Wendell; sisters, Daisy Richardson of Raleigh, Ruby Broadwell of Holden Beach, Jean Dean of Wendell; a host of nieces and nephews.

Gladys Faison Tart

Gladys Faison Tart, 86, of Knightdale, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at Wellington Nursing Center after many months of declining health. funeral service was Thursday, February 24, at L. Harold Poole funeral service chapel, Knightdale. Burial was at Raleigh Memorial Park.

She was born June 21, 1918, in Wake County, daughter of the late Edward S. Faison and Arthelia F. Faison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Edward Tart, December 28, 2001; brothers, Edward Faison and Ollie Faison; and special sister, Mamie Brooks.

Surviving: son, Milton E. Tart Jr. and wife Pat of Knightdale; daughter, Deborah T. Keith of Raleigh; special friend, the Rev. Patsy Voyles of Raleigh; grandchildren, Milton E. 'Trey' Tart III, Lee Michele Alford, Mark Ashley Keith, Jamie P. Keith; great-grandchildren, Justin Tart, Rebecca Tart, Ryan Alford; sister, Louise F. Poole of Raleigh; brother, Luther S. Faison and wife Chris of Raleigh.

Harvey "Bill" Thorne

William Harvey "Bill" Thorne, 87, of Dunn, died Friday morning, February 25, 2005, at Betsy Johnson Hospital. funeral service was Sunday, February 27, at Strickland Funeral Home chapel, Wendell. Burial was at Corinth Baptist Church cemetery.

He was born Nov. 26, 1917, in Johnston County, son of the late John "Bud" and Sophronia Pittman Thorne. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with the N.C. Department of General Services. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Pauline Denton, and Howard, Archie and Orland Thorne.

Surviving: wife of 60 years and seven months, Mavis Atkinson Thorne; daughter, Sandra Jernigan Holland of Dunn; grandchildren, Tammi Barbour Fitzgerald and husband Joe of Cary, Somar Jernigan Dougherty and husband Brian of Pittsboro; great-grandchildren, Whitney Barbour, Garrett Fitzgerald; brother, E. Earl Thorne and wife Sarah of Selma; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Annie Pearl Brantley

Annie Pearl Brantley, 85, of Middlesex, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at her home. funeral service was Saturday, February 26, at Samaria Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and George Sledge of Middlesex; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kay Dean of Youngsville; sister, Elgia Morgan of Middlesex; granddaughters, Kathleen Robson, Dawn Yates; one great-grandchild.
