Duran Gordon Earp, 21, of Wendell, died Friday, February 25, 2005. funeral service was Monday, February 28, at Strickland Funeral Home chapel. Burial was at Greenmount Cemetery, Wendell.
He was born Oct. 28, 1983, was a native of Wake County, and worked with his father at Earp Tire. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Nellie and Gordon Earp.
Surviving: parents, Kenneth and Tina Earp of Wendell; mother, Linda Carter of Wilmington; half brother, Johnny Mooneyham of Smithfield; brother, Randy Bass Jr. of the home; sisters, Elizabeth and Christina Bass of the home; grandparents, James and Jackie Pruette of Clayton.
Rudine Pearce Barham
Rudine Pearce Barham, 80, of Raleigh, died early Saturday, February 26, 2005, at her home. funeral service was Monday, February 28, at L. Harold Poole funeral service chapel, Knightdale.
Burial was at Pearce Baptist Church cemetery, Zebulon.
She was born March 23, 1924, in Franklin County, daughter of the late Wiley Ruben Pearce and Effie May Pearce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Barham, on Aug. 16, 1998; a son, Bennett Berry Barham, in 1998; and a daughter, Judy B. Stephenson, in 1962.
Surviving: daughters, Linda B. Ray of Raleigh, Sandra B. Moore of Wake Forest; sons, Donald Barham of Garner, Robert Lee Barham Jr. of Watha; sisters, Sallie P. Taylor of Louisburg, Lera P. Gay of Garner; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Andrew Wilson Gholson
Andrew Wilson Gholson of Knightdale died Tuesday, February 21, 2005. funeral service was Tuesday, March 1, at Lea Funeral Home, Raleigh. Burial will be Saturday, March 5, at Norfleet family cemetery, Gatesville.
Surviving: daughter, "Nete" Gulley of Raleigh; son, Andrew Badgett of Knightdale; two grandchildren.
Lois Langdon Denton
Lois Langdon Denton, 69, of Zebulon, died Sunday, February 27, 2005, at her home. funeral service was Tuesday, March 1, at Bowling Funeral Home chapel, Rocky Mount. Burial was at Cotton Meade Cemetery, Lawrence.
She was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Johnston County. She was preceded in death by her father, Chester Odell Langdon; and brother, Doug Langdon. She worked for 34 years at Westinghouse in the meter division.
Surviving: mother, Arah Tart Langdon of Garner; husband of 13 years, Lee "Goat" Denton of the home; sons, Dennis Shane Carroll of Knightdale, Jamie Kevin Carroll and wife Dawn of Clayton; stepdaughters, Joni and Kimberly Denton of Belhaven; sisters, Betty Myers and husband Ray of Clayton, Penny Boyette and husband W.M. of Scotland Neck, Glenda Faye Sandy and husband Paul of Clayton; brother, Earl Langdon and wife Dot of Clayton; grandchildren, Patrick, Carey and Samantha Carroll, Dylan, Tyler, Brianna and Micky Joyner, Daniel Adcock.
Arlen L. "Vern" Koger
Arlen L. "Vern" Koger, 69, of Pine Level, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. funeral service was Tuesday, March 1, at Parrish Funeral Home chapel, Selma. Burial was Wednesday, March 2, at Price Cemetery near Pine Level.
He was born July 7, 1935, in Montgomery, Ala. He had worked at S.T. Wooten Corp. He was preceded in death by his parents, "Jack" and Gertie Koger; sister, Betty Koger Forehand; and brothers, Darel Koger and Ted Koger.
Surviving: wife of 51 years, Alice Woodard Koger; daughters, Debbie Strickland and husband George of Pine Level, Terry Pope and husband Randy of Pine Level; son, Danny Koger of Pine Level; grandchildren, Melissa Byrd and husband Doug of Smithfield, Brian Strickland and wife Lydia of Kenly, Kelly Aycock and husband Chuck of Pine Level, Amanda Pope of Pine Level, Anna Koger of Wendell; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Logan Byrd, Camden and Carter Aycock; sister, Rachel Montella of Foster, R.I.; brothers, J.R. Koger of Spring Lake, Toney Koger of Bridgeton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul Leonard Smith
Paul Leonard Smith, 90, of Raleigh, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, at WakeMed. funeral service was Tuesday, March 1, at First Alliance Church. Private interment rites were at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
He was born June 23, 1914, in Harrison Valley, Pa. He was the eighth of nine children born to William and Anna Fritz Smith, who later made their home in Ulysses, Pa. On Sept. 7, 1936, he married Theyra Mae Lucas in Ulysses, Pa. He served in the Navy during World War II and spent many years working as the official mail carrier for the government of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. In 1948, he and his wife moved to Port Allegany, Pa., where they owned and operated a Western Auto store until 1973. After moving to Raleigh, he worked for Sears and Roebuck in the carpet department for 11 years prior to his retirement at age 71.
He and his wife were very active in both the Port Allegany Free Methodist Church and in First Christian & Missionary Alliance Church of Raleigh. She was the organist, and he served in many capacities but will be most remembered in Alliance Church as their official "greeter." He was an active member of the Sears Retirees and the Lions Park Seniors. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Lawrence and Maurice; and sisters, Mary, Margaret, Ruth, Emily and Cleo.
Surviving: sons, Paul Kenneth "Laverne" Smith of Raleigh, Philip Lucas Smith of Wendell; daughter, Eileen Kay Smith of Raleigh; grandsons, Paul Kenneth Jr., Edward, Cowl and Scott Smith, Stephen Daves; granddaughters, Susan Green, Kimberly Morton, Laurie Joyner, Shelly Leslie; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; brothers-in-law, Dewey Baumgarner of Gerry, N.Y., David Baumgarner of Port Allegany, Pa.

Joseph Elmer Overman
Joseph Elmer Overman, 73, of Middlesex, died Saturday, February 26, 2005. funeral service was Monday, February 28, at Middlesex Baptist Church. Burial was in Middlesex Cemetery.
He was the son of the late John Chalmus and Maude Estridge Overman. He was a devoted witness and member of Middlesex Baptist Church. As a lifetime member and leader, he served as a deacon. He served his country in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was the town barber for years. He retired from the Department of Correction in 1996 after 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline O. Morgan, Lelia Overman and Mary O. Strickland; and brother, J.C. Overman.
Surviving: wife of 46 years, Florence Carroll Overman of Middlesex; sons, Stan and daughter-in-law, Teresa of Rocky Mount, Stacey of Middlesex; daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Brantley Blanchard of Raleigh; sisters, Virginia O. Greene of Boone, Frances O. Hester and husband David of Wilson, Doris Overman of Apex; grandchildren, Abby, Baxter, Ethan, Haley, Lukas, Brantley, Harrison.

She was born December 9, 1942, in Johnston County, daughter of the late James and Laura Lynch Carroll.

Woodrow Grice
Woodrow Grice, 90, of Momeyer, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, at his home. funeral service was Monday, February 28, at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, Nashville. Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery.
He was born June 4, 1914, in Johnston County, son of the late Allen Perry and Effie Lee Grice. He was a World War II veteran and was employed as captain with the N.C. Department of Correction for 37 years. He was a member of Momeyer Baptist Church and Momeyer Ruritan Club. He enjoyed 25 years of retirement and stayed active up until the last year.
Surviving: wife of 52 years, Catherine Grice; daughter, Sheila Jeffreys and husband Tommy Jeffreys of Spring Hope; son, Perry Grice and wife Gail Grice of LaGrange, Ga.; grandchildren, Tara Finn and husband Tim Finn and their daughter Sydney of Spring Hope, T.C. Jeffreys and his son Thomas of Spring Hope, Allen Grice of LaGrange, Ga.
