Alma Doris Jones Massey, 82, of Zebulon, died Monday, January 24, 2005. funeral service was Thursday, January 27, at Zebulon United Methodist Church. Burial was at Zebulon Cemetery.

Miriam Underhill Gay

Miriam Underhill Gay, 79, of Rolesville, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Hillside Nursing Home. funeral service was Saturday, February 5, at L. Harold Poole funeral service chapel, Knightdale. Burial was at Bethany Baptist Church cemetery.

She was born in Wake County December 13, 1925, daughter of the late Lonnie Underhill and Annie Bell Jones Underhill. She retired from ITT as a tester after 27 years of service. She worked as a driver with Kenly Auto Sales and most recently worked at B.J.’s Grocery. She was well known for helping others, and donating her time to the Rolesville Fire and EMS. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Surviving: children, Jimmy Gay and wife Judy, Janette G. Pearce, and Tommy A. Gay, all of Rolesville; grandchildren, Leigh Ann Gay Jones and husband Kenny, and Randy Pearce, all of Rolesville; great-grandchild, Shelby Lynn Jones.

Fleta Ann A. Perry DuPree

Ann DuPree, 67, of great faith, died Sunday afternoon, January 16, 2005, in her home in Wendell after a courageous fight with cancer. Memorial service was Saturday, February 5, at White Dove Wedding Chapel, Wendell.

She owned and operated her family business, Linda’s Boarding Kennel, while working at the Angus Barn. After 20 years of service at the Angus Barn, she retired to begin her success as owner of several video stores, followed by her pride and joy, the White Dove Wedding Chapel. She was preceded in death by parents, Ray and Mattie Adcock; husband, P.B. Perry; son, Russell Perry; three sisters; and one brother.

Surviving: daughter, Linda Ann Debnam and husband Jack Debnam; sons, Dennis Perry, Wallace Perry, Larry Wayne Perry; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five sisters; one brother; a host of other relatives and special friends.

Rebecca Fowler Liles

Rebecca Fowler Liles, 76, of Wake Forest, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, with her family at her side after a 30-year battle with cancer. funeral service was Tuesday, February 8, at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was born in Wake County July 4, 1928, daughter of the late Hubert Augustus Fowler and Mamie Doolittle Fowler. She retired with 25 years of service with Revco Drug Store in downtown Raleigh. She was a member of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church where she served as secretary of her Sunday school class. She enjoyed spending time with her family, talking to friends and neighbors, and watching baseball. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Elton Liles; and brothers, LeRoy Penny, Buster Penny and Hubert “Zero” Fowler.

Surviving: daughter, Rebecca “Becky” L. Maye and husband Lonnie of Wake Forest; son, Glen Liles of Youngsville; grandchildren, Amie Maye Shehzad, Melissa Liles Taylor, Lori Maye Brown, Greg Liles, Sarah Nicole Liles; great-grandsons, Jordan Maye, Jibran Shehzad; several nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made to Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church Building Fund, 3329 Forestville Road, Raleigh 27616.

Billy Ray Peacock

Billy Ray Peacock, 66, of Knightdale, died Friday, February 4, 2005, at WakeMed. Graveside service was Sunday, February 6, at Kenly Cemetery.

He was born in Wilson County Aug. 9, 1938, son of the late Alvin Peacock and Lela Bell Peacock.

Surviving: daughter, Wendy Shepherd and husband Josh of Garner; granddaughter, Raegan Shepherd; brother, Harold Peacock and wife Marietha of Newport News, Va.; sister, Janice Brown and husband Milton of Greenville.

Orville Elmer "Mike" Krohn

Orville Elmer "Mike" Krohn, 75, of New Bern, died Saturday, January 29, 2005. funeral service was Saturday, February 5, at Faith United Methodist Church. Burial was Monday, February 7, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

A native of Joliet, Ill., he was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps where he won numerous awards for marksmanship. He was also a county ranger for the U.S. Forest Service and was last employed as quality control at Hatteras Yachts. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the NRA, and the VFW Dixon-Conderman Post 2514.

Surviving: wife, Adeline Stevenson Krohn; sons, Michael J. Krohn and wife Michelle of Wendell, David Krohn and wife Bobbie of Newport, Patrick Krohn and wife Kathryn of New Bern; brother, Alvin Krohn; grandchildren, Wesley, Joanna, Christina, Christopher, Jonathan, Ashley and Kristen Mallory Krohn; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Donavan, Lucas Tyler and Dokata Raine Krohn.

Mary Claire Honeycutt

Mary Claire Snead Honeycutt, 84, of Wendell, died Sunday afternoon, February 6, 2005, at WakeMed. funeral service was Tuesday, February 8, at Strickland Funeral Home chapel, Wendell. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon.

She was born March 3, 1920, in Halifax County, Va., daughter of the late Jesse and May Champion Snead, and was the widow of James Albert Honeycutt. She was a seamstress with Devil Dog Garment Co. and retired from Square D.

Surviving: son, Jim Honeycutt of Norcross, Ga.; sisters, Edith Snead Young of Apex, Jean Snead Liggins and husband Don of Wendell; special nieces and nephews.

Sherwood "Ray" Wall

Sherwood "Ray" Wall, 77, formerly of Raleigh, died Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Wellington Nursing Center of Knightdale. funeral service was Saturday, February 5, at McLaurin Funeral Home chapel, Clayton. Interment was at Maplewood Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Johnston County in the Archer Lodge community, son of the late Steven Hardy Wall and Snowie Murphy Wall. He was a retired plumber and was the last surviving sibling of his generation.

Surviving: wife, Sarah Christine Wall; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff Wall and wife Brenda of Knightdale, Jack Wall and wife Jackie of Youngsville; daughter, Marie Woodall of Wendell; stepchildren, Jewel Coats and husband Clee of Clayton, Joey Hamid of Raleigh, Janet Williams and husband Ricky of Pilot; many nephews and nieces including Dexter Wall and wife Judy of Chesterfield, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Snider of Wendell, Mageline Duncan of Clayton, Ruth Markinson of Clayton.

Mary M. Lucas

Mary M. Lucas, 87, of Raleigh, died Friday, January 28. Funeral was Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at St. Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Spring Hope. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Surviving: son, Ivory Lee Lucas of Greensboro; daughter, Mary Ann Hill of Raleigh; sisters, Sylvia Williams of Durham, Patty Wilkins of Raleigh, Alma Thomas of Charlotte; brothers, Joe Melton of Charlotte, John Melton of Spring Hope, Bennie Melton of California; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
