Lola Casey Barwick
April 28, 1924 - January 16, 2011
Lola Casey Barwick, 86, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2011. She passed away peacefully with her daughter Sylvia and son-in-law Ron at her side at their home in Raleigh, N.C. She was born
April 28, 1924 in Goldsboro, N.C., the daughter of the late Sam and Addie Daniels Casey. In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Arnold Ginn Barwick, her sisters Annie Mae Jackson and Lelia Powell and brothers, Barney Casey, Lonnie Casey, Sr., and Junius Casey.
A graduate of Goldsboro High School, she married the love of her life, Arnold Ginn Barwick, on January 10, 1942. During the early years of her marriage she became a full-time homemaker raising three children. Later in life she worked with handicapped children as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant at O’Berry Center in Goldsboro where she retired after 21 years of service.
A devoted wife, mother and Christian, Lola was a long standing member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro. Lola had many hobbies which included cooking, gardening, sewing, flower arranging and propagating African violets. She was a wonderful, loving and devoted wife and mother who displayed great courage and strength to endure the devastating disease of Alzheimer’s.
A service to celebrate her life will be conducted on Thursday, January 20th at 11:00 am at the First Free Will Baptist Church, 604 East Ash Street, Goldsboro, N.C. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Lola is survived by her three children, daughters, Brenda Carol Barwick of Goldsboro, Sylvia Hester and husband, Ron of Raleigh, N.C., and son Glenn Barwick and wife, Judith of Goldsboro; grandson A.G. Barwick, Jr. and wife, Jo of Wendell, N.C.; and granddaughter, Stacie Oatman of Goldsboro; four great-granddaughters, Ashley Cole, April Smith, Alyson Barwick and Jordan Barwick; and a sister, Aline Hines.

Eloise Barwick
June 29, 1934 - December 29, 2010
Eloise Barwick, 76, of Kirkwood Retirement Village passed away at her residence on Wednesday. She was the daughter of the late Jule B. and Esteen Barwick. Miss. Barwick was a member of Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was retired from Rose’s Department store as a sales manager.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 with the Rev. Barry House officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
Miss. Barwick is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mark Alex Easton, age 54, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was born
in Wayne Co., Michigan to Jeanne Pintar Easton and the late Francis Earl Easton.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2:00pm at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Andy Stovall officiating. The family will be receiving friends Saturday evening from 6-8pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Faye Gooding Easton; one son, Mickey Melvin of the home; one daughter, Carmen Melvin of Goldsboro; two brothers, Scott Easton and Craig Easton, both of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Jody, Jenna and Jeremy Melvin; three nephews, Joshua Mark Easton, Bradley Craig Easton and Christopher Wayne Stokes; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Easton and his brother, Wayne Easton.

January 7, 1917 – January 5, 2011
Ray Carter, age 93, died this morning at Countryside Villa. Born in Lenior County, he was the son of the late George and Myrtie Davis Carter. A veteran of the United States Army, he was retired from the Goldsboro Fire Department after 30 years of service. He was a charter member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, the American Legion Post #15, the VFW #15034 and the Retired Goldsboro Firefighters Association.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with honors provided by the Goldsboro Fire Department Honor Guard.
He is survived by his sons, George M. Carter of Miami, FL and Ken R. Carter of Goldsboro; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Joyceanne Lane
April 27, 1948 ~ December 30, 2010
Joyceanne Katherine Swartz Lane, age 62, died Thursday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Charles William and Francis O’Grondy Swartz. Mrs. Lane was wife of the late Ronald Dwight Lane, and was a grill operator for Waffle House.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Walker Family Cemetery with Pastor James Spencer officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lane is survived by a daughter, Kristie Lane Lee of Seven Springs; two sons, Ronald Dwight Lane Jr. of Goldsboro and Kevin Andrew Lane on Seven Springs; three brothers, Larry Swartz of Witchita, KS, Gene Swartz of Summer Duck, VA; and Carl Swartz of Grind Stone, PA; two sisters, Charlotte Swartz Macais of Stafford, VA and Sharon Porter of East Millsboro, PA four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Mary Ruth Stafford, 88, of Dudley passed away Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Irene Ezzell Guy, and was the wife of the late Arthur Wright Stafford. She was a clerk for Big Star, and was a member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 7:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Savage officiating. The family will receive friends following the service Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Stafford is survived by her sons, Roland W. Stafford of Holly Ridge and David C. Stafford of Dudley; four grandchildren, Robert Stafford, David Stafford, Kathy Stafford, and Melissa Wilkins; four great grandchildren, Heather Stafford, Regina Stafford, Abigail Wilkins, and Elizabeth Wilkins; a special daughter, Sharon Bowen of Sheboygan, WI; and a niece Shelby Parker of Magnolia.
A grandson, Stephen Stafford preceded her in death.

Joann Best Ball

Joann Best Ball, 70, of Mt. Olive passed away Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Tom and Sudie Best, and was the wife of Alton Ball. She was a service person for Young’s Squire, and had attended Dudley Christian Church.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 2:00pm at Maplewood Cemetery in Mt. Olive with Pastor Blane Smith officiating. Mrs. Ball will lie in state until the service.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ball is survived by a son, Micheal Ball and fiancé, Gail Peacock of Rosewood; two grandchildren, Elijah Alton Ball and Sierra Peacock Ball; two great grandsons, Zach and Isaiah Ball; two sisters, Janice and Kenneth Duvall of Dudley and Jean and Melvin Newcomb of Jacksonville; a special sister in law, Bernice Willington of Mt. Olive; and several nieces and nephews.

Carroll W. Grimes
June 26, 1926 ~ March 25, 2010
Carroll Winston Grimes, age 83, of 1920 Grimes Road, Mt. Olive, died early Thursday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late Earl VanDoren Grimes and Mary Elizabeth “Bessie” Grimes. He was the widower of the late Jewel Sutton Grimes and father of the late Diane Grimes Odom. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Marne Grimes and two great grandchildren, Baleigh Roesch and Elijah Scott.
Mr. Grimes was a longtime farmer in Wayne and Sampson Counties in the Smith Chapel Community and was a charter member of the Smith Chapel Volunteer Fire Department. He retired form the fire department with 20 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
He was proud to have served his country with the 160th Infantry Regiment, 40th division during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands and served with the occupation forces in Korea. He was honorably discharged in December of 1946 and became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9959 and the American Legion Post 0103. He was honored by the Daughters of the Confederacy with the Cross of Military Service in January of 1991.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Leland Heath officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Grimes is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lois Hinson Brogden Grimes; his children, Carolyn Grimes Perry and husband, John of Suttontown, Vickie Brogden Lee and husband, Hunter of Raleigh, Stuart Brogden and wife, Robin of Dudley; one brother, Rethel Grimes and wife, June of Kinston; a brother in law, Nolan Hinson and wife, Jo Anne of Smithfield; two sisters in law, Joyce Anderson and husband, Norwood of Concord, Jewel Britt Halso of Hampstead; eight grandchildren, Richard Ryan Weeks and friend, Scott Kline of Durham, Bradford Winston Weeks and fiancé, Erin Buckles of Fairfax, VA, Jonathan Patrick Weeks of Alexandria VA, James Carroll Roesch and wife, Terra of Suttontown, Jessica Roesch Scott and husband, Matthew of West Carteret, Travis Stuart Brogden of Dudley, David Hunter Lee, Jr. and wife, Kristi of Honduras and Samuel Stuart Lee of Raleigh; and three great grandchildren, Madalyn, Emily and Preslee Roesch.
Family members will greet friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
