Donald Owen Will Nov. 26, 1935 – Nov. 7, 2006 Donald Owen Will, 70, of Raleigh died Tuesday at Rex Healthcare. He was born icon in Loraine, Ohio and is the son of the late John Joseph and Merline Hastings Will. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force and was a volunteer fireman and first responder for over 30 years in Ohio and Raleigh. At the time of his death, he operated a home repair service and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, June Freeman Will; children, Nancy Austin (Ronnie); Kristen Burns (John); Dennis Will (Kristen); Shawn Miller (Allen); Richard Will (Debbie) and Jill Riggs (Chris); 14 grandchildren and 1 great- grandchild; sisters, Marcia Bridgeman and Mary Jo Esselink and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 1:00PM Friday, November 10, 2006 in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road. The family will greet friends after the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held later. Memorial contributions may be directed to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Jessie W. "PeeWee" Gurley, Jr.

Jessie W. “Pee Wee” Gurley, Jr., 68, of 1600 Edgebrook Drive, died Friday. He was the son of the late Jessie and Virginia Tuck Gurley. For over 30 years, he was an employee of Morris and Associates in Garner. funeral service will be Sunday, 3:00 PM at Highland Baptist Church, Raleigh. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Gail Gurley; daughters, Pamela Marshburn and husband, Andy and Paula Williams and husband David, all of Garner; sisters, Nan Shiflett of Charlottesville, VA and JoAnn Gurley of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Blake and Briana Marshburn and Preston and Allie Williams. Mr. Gurley was preceded in death by brothers, Daffey and John Franklin Gurley. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of NC, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607.

Eleanor Snipes Lambert

Eleanor Snipes Lambert, 79, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2006. She was retired from the North Carolina Division of Travel and Tourism. The service to celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 5th. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton. Eleanor was preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie Lambert White. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Paul West of Raleigh; her son and daughter–in-law, Donald and Brookie Lambert of Clayton, and her son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Bobbie Lambert of Garner. Eleanor was also a beloved Granny to ten grandchildren, Mark White, Amy W. Turnbaugh, John West, Kelley W. McFarland, Karen L. Hampton, Michael Lambert, Alex and Brittany Lambert, Joe and David Nixon. She has two great-grandchildren, Pamela Turnbaugh and Haleigh Hampton. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Snipes Jennings of Lewisville and brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Joyce Snipes of Timberlake. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00-8:00 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner and at other times at the home of Donald and Brookie Lambert, 2012 Buckskin Drive, Clayton. Flowers are appreciated, but those wishing to make a memorial are asked to consider Meals on Wheels. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Rex Rehab and Nursing Care Center for the compassionate care and kindness shown toward Eleanor.

Daniel C. Boney' Jr.

Daniel Clinton Boney, Jr. of Raleigh died Thursday, November 2, 2006. Born on October 18, 1929, he was the son of the late Daniel Clinton Boney and Charlotte Johnson Boney. He was predeceased by his first wife, Katharine Holding Boney in 1962, by his second wife, Katherine Bernhard O’Neal Boney in July, 2006 and his brother, Arthur Johnson “Buddy” Boney in 1989. A lifelong resident of Raleigh, he was educated in the Raleigh City Schools and graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a loyal member of Chi Psi Fraternity which awarded him its Alumni Recognition Award in 2001. Following graduation, he served in the U. S. Army and soon after began his insurance career at State Capital Life Insurance Company. He retired as Senior Vice-President from Durham Life Insurance Company in 1992. He was active in a variety of civic and social organizations in Raleigh, serving as president of the Wake County Cancer Society, Raleigh Little Theatre, and Family Services. Dan was past president of the Terpsichorean Club, Carolina Country Club, The Sphinx Club, St. Christopher’s Club and a member of Milburnie Fishing Club, Circle Club, Nine O’clock Cotillion, The Assembly Club and the Ole Raleigh Boys A loving and gentle man, the consummate gentleman, his life was centered around his faith, his family and his friends. Until his illness, he was an avid sailor, a master woodworker and designer and a creative grill master. He is survived by four sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren, all of Raleigh: John Bryant O’Neal, Jr. his wife, Ann Norris O’Neal and children John Bryant O’Neal III and Ann Katherine O’Neal; Daniel Clinton Boney III, his wife Pamela Kay Boney and daughter Amber Leigh Rogers; Clem Bolton Holding Boney, his wife Anne Nelson Boney and son Clem Bolton Holding Boney Jr.; Wilhelm Bernhard O’Neal, wife Amber Humphrey O’Neal, and children Wilhelm Bryant O’Neal and Bailey Nikole Wilson; Katherine Boney Gilliland and husband Kurt Ogden Gilliland and son, Alexander Rand Gilliland. The family is grateful for the loving support of the staff at Sunnybrook Rehabilitation Center. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 6 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, with Reverend Gregory Johns officiating. The family will receive friends at St. Michael’s after the service. There will be a private inurnment. Virginia Caudle Thompson

Virginia Caudle Thompson, of Stewart Health Center at Springmoor, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 1, 2006. Virginia was born icon in Kernersville, NC to the late, Abram C. and Florence W. Caudle. She was an active member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church for 64 years and was a member of the Townsend Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Woodrow, Clarence, James and Waldrof and a sister, Nancy. Virginia is survived by her husband of 67 years, James A. Thompson of Springmoor; her three sons, James A. Thompson, Jr. and wife, Sue of Raleigh, Jon D. Thompson and wife, Evelyn of Houston, TX, and Timothy A. Thompson and wife, Leslie of Valparaiso, TX; her three grandchildren, Elizabeth D. Thompson and Neal and Erik Thompson; her brother, Jon T. Caudle and a sister, Janet Sherman both of Shallotte, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 11am at Montlawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 2pm at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church parlor. The family is grateful for the loving care given to Mrs. Thompson by Dr. Wells Edmundson, the staff at Stewart Health Center and especially those on C- Wing. Walter Anderson Holt

Walter Anderson Holt, a native of Smithfield, N.C., former resident of Wilmington, N.C., and Charlottesville, Va., and a resident of 3261 Anderson Dr, Raleigh died October 31, 2006 at Rex Hospital following complications from surgery. Walter was born icon October 2, 1926, in Smithfield, N.C., to the late Richard Rowan Holt and the late Lillian Sefton Holt. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Richard Rowan “Dick” Holt, Jr., who died Oct. 31, 1967, and by the mother of his children, Annis Black Holt of Charlotte, N.C., who died Sept 8, 1977. He is survived by his adoring and committed wife, the former Evelyn Ann White “Lollie” Norris of the home, together with his three sons, their spouses and his five grandchildren: Walter A. Holt, Jr., (Joan) of Carrboro, N.C., and their two children, Kathleen Field “Katie” Holt and Walter A. Holt III; Palmer Goodwin Black Holt of Mooresville, N.C., and his daughter Bailey Rowan Holt; and Richard Stockton Holt (Melinda) of Charlotte, N.C., and their children Annis Taylor Holt and Owen Stockton Holt. He is also survived by Lollie’s four children: Tom Norris (Amie) of Montgomery, Al., Laura (Hurley) Raynor of Raleigh, Lee Norris of Raleigh, and Ann (John) O’Neal of Raleigh. Walter attended Smithfield School and graduated in 1944 from Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance, Va. He served in the U.S. Army-Air Force during World War II and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Commerce. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Walter joined First Citizens Bank in Jacksonville and Maysville, N.C., upon graduation. He returned to Smithfield in 1953 to manage family business interests, serving as president of Holt Farm Center. In 1963 he joined Bache & Company in Raleigh as a stockbroker. He worked with a number of brokerage firms, including Interstate Securities, First Securities and Johnson-Lane, until his retirement in 1991 with A.G. Edwards & Sons. He then moved to Charlottesville and married Lollie. Walter was a former member and president of Johnston County Country Club, The Sphinx Club (Raleigh), Cape Fear Country Club (Wilmington), Carolina Yacht Club (Wrightsville Beach, N.C.) and the YMCAs of Raleigh and Wilmington. He was also a member of The Society of the Cincinnati – N.C. Society Chapter, tracing his lineage to Col. Robert Rowan of Fayetteville, N.C., who served in the Continental Army under Gen. George Washington. Walter also was a descendent of John Taylor, first Chief Justice of the N.C. Supreme Court, and William Gaston, noted colonial judge and legislator and lyricist of the North Carolina state song, “The Old North State.” Walter was a life-long member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Smithfield, where he served as Senior Warden of the Vestry. He was a former member of St. James Episcopal Church, Wilmington, and a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Greenwood, Va. The family will receive friends at the home at 3261 Anderson Dr., Raleigh, on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 5-7 p.m. Friends are able to view during the 5-7 p.m. period that day at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Rd., in the Mordecai Historic District of Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church at 218 S. 2nd St., Smithfield on Friday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Holt Family plot at Riverside Cemetery, directly across from the church. The family will immediately receive friends at the church parish hall. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 218 S. 2nd Street Smithfield, NC 27577 or to The Anderson House Fund, care of The Society of the Cincinnati, 2118 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C., 20008.

Estene Wood Parker

Estene Wood Parker, 74, died Sunday. A native of Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Sarah Jernigan Wood. Mrs. Parker retired from Dorothea Dix Hospital with 32 years of service. She will be remembered as a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Friend and Christian. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Garner Advent Christian Church. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Surviving are: husband of 58 years, Parlie Parker; sons, William Douglas Parker of Angier, and James Dale Parker of Clayton; daughter, Gale Parker Stephenson and husband John of Raleigh; sister, Wilma Gibbs of Raleigh; grandchildren, Tara Parker Hester and husband Tommy, Adam Parker Stephenson and William Garrett Parker; great-grandchildren, Taylor Renee Hester and Tyler Thomas Hester and special nieces, Becky Woodard and Cathy Fowler. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Surviving: son, Johnny Wayne Cook and wife, Linda of Clayton; daughter, Beverly Cook Potter and husband Ben, of Willow Spring; brother, J. F. McGee of Garner; grandson, Christopher Lee Baker, great-grandchildren, Stephan Knox. Brenden James Baker, and Savanna Baker. The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier 7:00 – 8:30 PM Tuesday.

Surviving, daughter, Gladys D. Sandy of Raleigh; sons, Porter Dyson of Raleigh, Mark Dyson and wife Charlotte of Willow Spring, Mike Dyson of Willow Spring and Robbie Dyson and wife, Beverly of Raleigh, grandchildren, Kyle Dyson, Robbie Dyson, Mark and Nichole Dyson, Chris and Stevie Sandy; great grandchildren, Christian and Damian Sandy and Jayden and Jada Dyson Predeceased by wife, Jean Stradley Dyson on Oct. 27, 2005. The family will receive friends from 7-9 P.M Monday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.

Gertrude King Humphrey

GARNER, NC –Gertrude King Humphrey, 98, died Wednesday. A native of Orange County, she was the daughter of the late William and Emma Dodson King. Mrs. Humphrey began her teaching career in North Carolina after graduating from the North Carolina College for Women in Greensboro in 1931. During this time, she married Charles Clarence Humphrey and they later moved to Florida. After her husband’s tour of duty in World War II, they settled in Alabama where she resumed her teaching career and taught until her retirement. She returned to North Carolina after her husband’s death to be near her family. For many years, she was a resident of Garner and in recent years, a resident of Aversboro Assisted Living Facility. Survivors are: sisters, Edith Webb of Alabama and Ruth King of Raleigh and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Clayborne S., Thomas H., and William D. King, and a sister, Christine Smith. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday at 11:30 AM at Philadelpheus Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Red Springs, NC. The family will greet friends from 5-6:00 on Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Garner, 503 Lakeside Drive, Garner, N.C. 27529.
