Philip Gerold Todd, Jr.
Oak Island - Philip Gerold Todd, Jr., 53, of Oak Island, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2011. He was born
on October 20, 1957 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, son of the late Philip G. Todd, Sr. of Georgia and survived by Elidia (Hermel) Todd of Maryland. He married Susan Crocker (Hawley) Todd in 1995. Phil worked as a vending manager for Marriott Food Services at the National Security Agency and at The World Bank. From there, he owned S & H Laundry Service, along with his wife, for over 13 years.
After his retirement, Phil and his wife moved to Oak Island, North Carolina where he enjoyed the Caswell Beach Turtle Watch, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family. A relaxed and fun-loving person, Phil made many friends throughout his life.
Phil is survived by his loving wife Susan of 15 years; son Philip G. “Jerry” Todd, III, his wife Kami Todd; step-son Robert Francis Thalheimer; granddaughter Kayli ‘Kay’ Todd; brother Peter Todd; sister Lynda Todd-Sanchez; and many beloved extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Peacock–Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, 1411 North Howe Street, Southport, North Carolina.

Leota A. Cheney (Toni Lei)
Southport - Leota Antoinette (Toni Lei) Cheney age 45 formerly of Southport, died Tuesday February 22, 2011.
Toni Lei was born
in Southport on January 13, 1966. She was a 1984 graduate of South Brunswick High School. She was a LPN with North Care Home Health of Kinston, NC. She was preceded in death by her father, Texas Neil Cheney and also by a very dear father who loved Toni as his own, William Harrison Cordrey.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Jones Cordrey of Stem, NC; two sons, Michael Cory Brown of Stem, NC, Harrison Ray Hopkins of Waterloo, SC; a brother, Richard Egan Holden of Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Lisa Cordrey Mangum of Stem, NC, and a beloved grandfather Samuel Wesley Holden of Southport, NC.
A memorial service will be held Saturday February 26, 2011 at 2pm at the chapel of Peacock-Newnam & White funeral service
Dr. Shepard Nash Dunn
Southport - Dr. Shepard Nash Dunn of Southport, NC passed away on Saturday Feb. 19, 2011.
Shepard was born
and raised in Sumter, SC where he graduated from Edmunds High School. After discharge from US Marine Corp in 1946, he attended and graduated from Davidson College. Next he completed his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Upon completion of his internship and residency in Ophthalmology, he began practice in Columbia, SC. Later, he became one of the founders of Columbia Eye Clinic. He also established the Brunswick County Eye Clinic and Robeson County Eye Clinic in NC before retiring from Carolina Eye Associates in Pinehurst, NC.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Dunn of Southport, NC; sons William A. Dunn and wife Ruth of Carrollton, TX, Joseph R. Dunn and wife Gail of Raleigh, NC, and Shepard N. Dunn Jr. and Elizabeth of Vincennes, IN; grandchildren Kristin Hooke of San Antonio, TX, Amanda Dunn of Round Rock TX, Susan Dunn of Carrollton, TX, Bailey Dunn of Charleston, SC, Page Dunn of Raleigh, NC, Nash Dunn of Vincennes, IN, Ryan Dunn of Evansville, IN, Caroline Dunn of Vincennes, IN; sister Alice Nash Lightsey of Atlanta, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ann Nash Dunn of Sumter, SC, Dr J. Ralph Dunn of Sumter, SC, Brother William J. Dunn of Knoxville, TN and Brother J. Ralph Dunn Jr of Raleigh, NC.
Shepard was an avid reader, hunter, sailor, and basketball fan. He delighted in TexMex cuisine, seafood, sardines, boiled peanuts, and anything with garlic.

Virginia Ann Chatfield age 70 of Oak Island passed away on Saturday, July 19 2014 at Ocean Trial Convalescent Center Southport, NC.
She was born
on June 16, 1944 in Union County, NC the daughter of the late, Bill Lewis and Mary Quick Lewis and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wellington Chatfield, a brother Wayne Lewis and a sister, Cozy Lewis.
Mrs. Chatfield a member of Love Baptist Church in Monroe, NC. She as a avid artist, and a awesome grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are a son, Scott Yandle and wife, Jennifer; four grandchildren, Corey Yandle, Ryan Yandle, C.J. Garcia and Max McCorkle; a special niece, Donna Lockhart; and a special friend, Virginia Ann Helms all of Oak Island, NC.
A celebration of life will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Peacock Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel.

Nancy Lee Shaynock
Oak Island - Mrs. Nancy Lee Shaynock, 66, of Oak Island, NC died Saturday July 19, 2014.
Mrs. Shaynock was born
in Sewickley, Pa. on December 24, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Archie and Mildred Lee Phillips. She was the wife of the late Thomas Shaynock.
She is survived by a brother, Archie Phillips of Oak Island, NC; a sister in-law, Karen Phillips of Kenmore, Pa. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 24, 2014 at 1pm at the Copeland Funeral Home Chapel in Coraopolis, Pa. with burial to follow in the Coraopolis Cemetery.

Charles Donald Smith
St. James - Charles Donald Smith age 72 of St. James passed away on Wednesday July 16, 2014 at his residence.
He was born
in Alamance County on February 3, 1942 the son of the late, C. L . Smith and Sirella Mae Barber Joyce.
Charles was a veteran of the United Sates Army. He was a member of the American Legion, a former member of BPO Elks and a member of the Oak Island Pool League. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two daughters, Alicia Zendejas and husband, Michael of Aberdeen, NC and Ashley Smith of Statesville, NC; a sister, Ruth Wrenn of Asheboro, NC; two grandchildren, Daniel Zendejas and Samuel Zendejas also of Aberdeen, NC and several cousins.

Interment will follow in the Northwood Cemetery.

Ronald Stanley Hilton
Southport - Ronald Stanley Hilton
“After fighting cancer for the past 6 months, Ronald Stanley Hilton (a.k.a. “Nor”) went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Mr. Hilton finished his battle with cancer in the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.
A native to Charlotte NC, Mr. Hilton was son of the late Elmer S. Hilton and Mildred Dunn Hilton.
Mr. Hilton lived a life of excellence, was resilient, resourceful, and followed his dreams at all cost. In 1972, he was honorably discharged as a sergeant of the United States Marine Corps. After spending 39 years with Southern Bell, Mr. Hilton retired and accepted a position with the NC Department of Transportation as a mate on the Southport / Fort Fisher Ferry in Southport NC. Mr. Hilton’s family and friends are very proud of his recent certification to operate vessels up to 1600 gross registered tons.
Surviving are a son; Bryan Hilton and wife, Sheree, a sister; Patti Freeman and husband Chuck, two brothers; Alan Hilton and wife, Debbie, and Gary Hilton and wife, Donna, two grandchildren; Zack and Caleb Hilton, aunt; Ann Williams, several nieces and nephews, their children, and a host of many friends.
The family would also like to express their appreciation to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick staff and volunteers, Bob and Pam Tolle, Sandy Mitchell, George and Marybeth Ray, and Chris Pittman who have all been an incredible example of true community and love.
A celebration of Mr. Hilton’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Peacock Newnam & White Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel.
The family will receive family and friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
