HANSON E. McELFRESH

Hanson E. McElfresh, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, August 27, 2000 at Columbus Community Hospital.

Services are Wednesday, August 30th, 2000; 10:30 A.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Dr. Dorsie Ivy officiating. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 29th, 2000 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, August 30th, 2000 from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Hanson E. McElfresh was born icon October 1, 1914 in Columbus, Nebraska to Clarence N. and Ethel B. (Elliott) McElfresh. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1933, attended Doane College and the Dunwoody Institute in Minnesota. Hanson married Emma Pearse on October 16, 1937 in Columbus, Nebraska. He worked for Nebraska Public Power District for 35 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Federated Church, Eagles, a volunteer fireman for many years, and a past member of the Elks. He was a 50 year member of the Lebanon Lodge No. 323, A.F. & A.M., a member of Platte Valley York Rite of Freemasonry and a member of Pawnee Shrine Club and Sesostris Shrine Temple. Memorials may be directed to family choice.

ARNOLD H. MAUTZ

Arnold H. Mautz, 66 of Columbus, NE, was found dead at his home on August 9, 2000. Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Monday, August 14, 2000 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Rowoldt officiating. Inurnment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be held at on Sunday, August 13, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Monday at the Gass Haney Funeral Home.
Arnold was born icon June 23, 1934 in Garrison, ND, to Rudolph and Johanna (Bindewald) Mautz. He attended school in Garrison. Arnold worked for the Civil Service for many years in Minot, ND. On March 18, 1956, Arnold married Marvel Meisch in Garrison.
In July of 1979, Arnold moved to Columbus and worked at D & L until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping. Memorials may be made to Donor's Choice.

Annie Bridges

Annie Bridges, 96, of Columbus, Nebraska died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at her home in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 15, 10:30 A.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. The visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14 from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The interment will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 A.M. at the Leigh City Cemetery in Leigh, Nebraska.

Annie Bridges was born icon July 30, 1907 in Colfax County, Nebraska to Robert & Alma (Loseke) Welch. She attended rural country school in Colfax County. On April 13, 1944 Annie married Earl Bridges. They farmed near Leigh, Nebraska until moving into Columbus in 1955. Annie worked for many years at the hospital in Columbus. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was also a member of the Ladies Aid. Annie was active in the Senior Center and enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

Johanetta (Nettie) Behle

Johanetta M. (Nettie) Behle, 98, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 26 at 2:00 P.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 25 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 1:45 P.M.

Johanetta M. (Nettie) Behle was born icon December 11, 1904 in rural Columbus, Nebraska to Louis and Anna (Durkop) Behle. She lived with her family on a farm north of Columbus. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School. As a young woman Nettie worked and cared for many area farm families. Nettie also worked at the Lutheran Hospital for 25 years as a cook. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid.

Betty L. Buchholz

Betty L. Buchholz, 76, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, June 23, 2003 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy White officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Thursday, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM Thursday at the church.

Betty L. Buchholz was born icon October 1, 1926 at Oakland, Nebraska to Roy A. and Linnie A. (Johnson) Bowen. She attended Prairie View District # 55 and graduated from Oakland High School. Betty married Gordon Buchholz on January 20, 1947 in Oakland, they moved to Columbus in 1951.

She worked at the Jack & Jill Grocery Store for 20 years as a checkout clerk. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary, and a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. She was a former member of the Fireman's Auxiliary, where she was a member for 25 years and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Kurtis O. Bembry

Kurtis O. Bembry, 53 of Lakeside, California (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died of natural causes on July 24, 2003 in La Mesa, California.

Memorial services will be held in California at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the Harvest Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Ralph Goodrich officiating. A memorial service will be held in Columbus on Monday, August 4, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by the American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84.

Kurtis O. Bembry was born icon November 15, 1949 in Portland, Oregon to William and Edythe (Becher) Bembry. The family moved to Columbus, Nebraska in the late 1950's. Kurtis graduated from Columbus High School in 1967. He attended Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war. After being honorably discharged he attended San Diego State University, San Diego, California. He worked in the Visual Design Department at the Barona Valley Resort in California.
He was a member of the Harvest Christian Fellowship Church in Lakeside, California where he taught Bible class. He enjoyed fishing, football, baseball, car racing, and good coffee.

George "Don" Barr

Don Barr, 61, of Columbus, Nebraska died July 4, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, while visiting family.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 7 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Tuesday, July 8 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 with a family prayer service at 9:45 AM at the church.

Don Barr was born icon on February 27, 1942 to George M. & Yvonne (Roberts) Barr in Norfolk, Nebraska. He graduated from Leigh School in 1960. On November 18, 1961 he married Jane Olson at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh. He farmed the family farm in Leigh until 1963. At that time, they moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where he was a manager for Colombian Feed. In 1968 they moved to Fremont, Nebraska where Don was self-employed as a truck driver for MTR and Eckley Trucking Firm. In 1974 they moved to Columbus where he was employed as General Transportation Manager for Lindsay Manufacturing and was involved with the Nebraska Motor Carriers Association. In 1995 he started his own Freight Brokerage business. He retired in 2001. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and loved being with them and watching their activities.
