Coda Wayne Thomas

A private service was held for Coda Wayne Thomas, infant son of Trent Thomas and Lori Singley of Medford, who died Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his grandparents, Mary Carol Singley, Medford, Michael and Karen Thomas, Albany, and Carol Andrews and Robert Tipsword, Corvallis.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Barbara B. Woodward

A celebration of the life of Barbara B. Woodward will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. Pastor David Campbell of Ashland will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Woodward, 58, of Central Point, died Sunday (Oct. 17, 1999) in Central Point.

She was born Barbara B. Bever on May 21, 1941, in Lovell, Wyo., a daughter of Bob and Mildred Bever. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Southern California when she was in the eighth grade.

In 1959, in Medford, she married Norman R. Woodward, who survives.

Mrs. Woodward was a self-employed horse trainer. She raised and trained thoroughbred horses.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eagle Point.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Shellie Gipson and Marti Strickland, both Central Point; a son, John R., Los Angeles; a brother, Bud Bever, Eagle Point; a sister, Katie Hurley, Eagle Point; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ila R. Beery

The graveside service for Ila R. Beery will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Jacksonville Cemetery. Pastor Dave Humphries of Phoenix Church of Christ and her grandson, John Martin, will officiate.

Mrs. Beery, 90, of Phoenix, died Sunday (Oct. 17, 1999) at a foster home in Phoenix.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Ila Rebecca Ranney on May 7, 1909, in Shelton, Wash.

On Oct. 31, 1924, in Wenatchee, Wash., she married Austin E. Bryant. They later divorced. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1931 from Raleigh, Calif.

On July 25, 1933, in Grants Pass, she married Edwin D. Beery, who died in 1980.

Mrs. Beery worked as a cook at Boy Scout camps, Camp White and logging camps during the 1940s.

She was a member of the Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Club.

Mrs. Beery enjoyed hunting, fishing, rockhounding and cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Martin, Phoenix, and Mary Miles, Talent; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Adrian Ranney; a sister, Florence Rowden; and one great-grandson.

Virginia Dean Abel

Virginia Dean Abel, 80, of Ashland, died Saturday (Oct. 16, 1999) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Virginia Dean on Jan. 11, 1919, in Cincinnati. She attended Brooklyn College in New York and lived on Staten Island from 1933 to 1953.

On May 5, 1940, in New York, she married Sidney L. Abel, who died in 1981. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Summerville, S.C.

In Michigan City, Ind., Mrs. Abel was president of the League of Women Voters, the Community Service Council and the Unitarian Fellowship. She was president of the Indiana Correctional Association in 1969 and received the association's Distinguished Service Award in 1977. She was named by the governor to serve on the Juvenile Justice Commission, as well as the Criminal Code Commission.

She retired in 1980, after serving as chief probation officer of La Porte County Superior Court for 20 years.

In Ashland, she was a member of the Ashland League of Women Voters and the Rogue Valley Unitarian Fellowship.

Survivors include two sons, Donald, Ashland, and Dean, Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters, Carol Krutz and Laura Dean, both New York; a brother Joel Dean, Alexandria, Va.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Arthur Dean.

Cleo J. Sims

The funeral for Cleo James Sims will be at 10 a.m. today in Wilson's Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg. Interment will follow at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. The Veterans of Foreign Wars District No. 12 Honor Guard will officiate and provide military honors.

Mr. Sims, 85, of Myrtle Creek, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) in a Roseburg hospital.

He was born July 8, 1914, in Lebanon, a son of Robert and Pearl (York) Sims.

Mr. Sims was a cement finisher for Jack James Construction in Medford from 1960 until he retired in 1977.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a brother, Jack Russell Sims, Eugene. Preceding him in death was his companion of 26 years, Grace Peile, in April 1999.

Arrangements: Wilson's Chapel of the Roses, Roseburg.

Doris F. Corry

The funeral for Doris F. Corry will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. Pastor Don Baldrica of the Ashland First Baptist Church will officiate.

Mrs. Corry, 92, of Weaverville, Calif., formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) in Weaverville.

She was born July 29, 1907, in Portland, a daughter of Arthur and Nellie Gardner.

On Dec. 27, 1931, in Portland, she married Chester E. Corry, who died in 1989. They moved to Ashland in 1937.

Mrs. Corry was a teacher in Talent schools for 22 years.

She was a member of the Ashland Hospital Auxiliary for many years, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Tudor Guild and the First Baptist Church of Ashland.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Edwards, Weaverville, Calif.; a brother, Elbert Gardner, Salem; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Crematory & Funeral Home, Ashland.

Virginia A. Hague

The graveside service for Virginia A. Hague of Medford will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Pastor Chad McComas of Set Free Christian Fellowship in Medford will officiate.

Mrs. Hague died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) in Medford. She was 83.

She was born Virginia A. Montgomery on March 13, 1916, in Brownwood, Tex. She came from Texas to the Rogue Valley in 1983. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medford.

She was a homemaker. During the early 1960s, she was a house mother at Lewis and Clark College.

She married Robert D. Hague on March 2, 1959, in Midway, Wash. He died in 1992.

Among the survivors are two sons, Ross Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Edwin LeRoy Ramey of Salt Lake City, Utah; six daughters, Diana Busch of Medford, Helen Douglas of Tennessee, Kay Fritz of San Antonio, Tex., Delle Homa of Cleveland, Ohio, Francine Sokso of Olympia, Wash., and Mona Stephens of Georgia; 40 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Donna, and a son, Richard.
