Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Paul E. "Pete" Harnish Jr.
Paul E. "Pete" Harnish Jr., 66, of 5399 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at home. He had been in failing health for six months and critically ill for the last two month.

Born Feb. 11, 1940 in Claylick, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Hazel (Weaver) Harnish. He spent his early life in the Mercersburg area.

Mr. Harnish attended James Buchanan High School.

He and his wife, Rose (Deeds) Harnish, were married Oct. 5, 1957 in Hagerstown, Md. They lived in the Mercersburg area for many years and at their current residence for the last 35 years.

Mr. Harnish was employed locally as a plasterer, and by Novinger, Harrisburg, for 20 years before retiring in 2002.

He enjoyed antiques of all kinds, riding his motorcycle and restoring old farm tractors and cars. He also enjoyed yard sales, auctions and playing country and blue grass music.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two  daughters: Darla K. Polca of Shippensburg and Durinda S. Coffman and her husband Joel, of Chambersburg; three sons: Dennis J. Harnish of Greencastle, Steven C. Harnish of Roxbury and Jerel P. Harnish of McConnellsburg; 13 grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Harnish of Chambersburg.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Harnish and Anna Belle (Stine) Harnish.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor David Pine officiating.

Burial followed in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Christopher J. "Chris" Kayser
Christopher J. "Chris" Kayser, 27, of 42 Locust Dr., Mercersburg, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 08, 2007, in his home. Death was unexpected and attributed to natural causes.

Born March 29, 1979 in Waynesboro, he was the son of Gale C. "Skip" Kayser Jr. and Diane (Burke) Kayser of Greencastle. He lived all of his life in the local area.

Mr. Kayser graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School with the Class of 1997.

He and his wife, Joni L. (Myers) Kayser, were married Sept. 11, 1999. They moved to their present residence following the marriage.

Mr. Kayser worked for Foremost Industries, Greencastle, building counter tops, and Waynesboro Construction as a laborer. He was last employed at Wolf's Furniture, Hagerstown, Md. as a home furnishings consultant.

He was a member of the Greencastle Church of God and the Mercersburg Sportsman's Association.

Mr. Kayser enjoying hunting, playing golf, and fishing, including tying his own flies for flyfishing.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by one brother, Jeffrey C. Kayser of State Line, Pa.; his maternal grandmother, Bonnie Christophel of Greencastle; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Kayser, a resident of the Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 in Greencastle Church of God, 4480 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, with Pastor Floyd E. Myers, officiating.

Burial will follow in Macedonia Church cemetery, Antrim Township.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle.

George E. Worthman Jr.
George E. Worthman Jr, 70, of 1024 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, and formerly of Greencastle, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 in Harrisburg Hospital.

Born Aug. 25, 1936 in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Carrie Klaunberg Worthman and George E. Worthman Sr.

Mr. Worthman retired first from the U.S. Air Force, and then from Mack Trucks Inc. in 1991. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1426, K.C. Assembly 924, Tarquino- Washabaugh Catholic War Veterans Post 1930, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 and Hume McNeal Byers AmVets Post 224.

He is survived by his wife of over 10 years, Margaret M. Hovermale Worthman; six children, George E. Worthman of Hampton, Va., John E. Worthman of Chambersburg, Dorothy M. Wolff, Judy E. Yohn and Paula A. Nelson, all of Greencastle, and April M. Worthman of Chambersburg; 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen E. Kelly Worthman, who died May 4, 1989, two sisters and one brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 9 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg, with the Rev. James R. O'Brien officiating.

Interment was held at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, with military graveside honors.

George L. Johnson
George L. Johnson, 81, of 766 Leitersburg St., Greencastle, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 8, 2007 in his home. Born Aug. 8, 1925 in Montgomery Township, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Margaret E. (Dietrich) Johnson. He and his wife, Margaret E. (Ott) Johnson, were married Feb. 3, 1951. She died May 21, 1994.

Dolores C. Everts
Dolores C. (Campbell) Everts, 75, of 7307 Angle Road, Chambersburg, died at 6:02 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, in the Chambersburg Hospital.

She had been in failing health for the past two weeks and critically ill since Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Born Jan. 22, 1932 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late William Morning and Irene (Willard) Campbell Morning. She lived her early life in the Pittsburgh area.

Mrs. Everts graduated from Penn Hills High School, Pittsburgh, with the Class of 1949. She later attended the University of Pittsburgh to study nursing.

She worked for Corning Glass, Greencastle, as a palletizer operator, for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

Mrs. Everts enjoyed watching birds and squirrels.

She is survived by three  daughters, Donna M. Whipple of Bolivar, N.Y., Pat I. Cross of Falling Waters, W.Va. and Linda L. Corry of Chambersburg; one son, Robert S. Corry Jr. of Chambersburg; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Campbell and William Campbell.

Services were held the morning of Saturday, Jan. 27 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle with Rev. Chalmer Hann officiating.

Burial was private at the convenience of the family.

Annabelle Thorum
Annabelle Thorum, 83, Homemaker, furniture and antique dealer

Annabelle (Dayley) Thorum, 83, of Spring City, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 in her home.

Born in Hagerstown, Md., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Abbey Dayley.

She was the wife of Fons D. Thorum.

Mrs. Thorum served four years in World War II as a Master Sgt. in the Army Medic Corps, during World War II.

She and her husband owned and operated a furniture business in Kimberton. She did all the decorating and was loved by all her customers for honesty and doing things the customer's way. They were also partners in Thorum's Antiques, also of Kimberton, years later.

Mrs. Thorum was baptized into the Church of God.

In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is survived by: two grandsons, Michael D., husband of April D. Thorum, of Upper Pottsgrove and Christopher D., husband of Sherry A. Thorum, of Sanatoga; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Evan and Brianna Thorum; and one sister, Jane Shuman.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jack D. Thorum; four brothers, Perry, Carl, John and James Dayley; two sisters, Martha Harrison and Mary Poe.

Services were held privately at the convenience of the family.

Burial in St. Vincent United Church of Christ Cemtery, East Pikeland, was held privately at the convenience of the family.

Memorial gifts may be made to Salesian Missions, 2 Lefevre Lane, P.O. Box 30, New Rochelle, NY 10802-0030. These gifts will be used to help children around the world and was one of Mrs. Thorum's favorite charities.

Arrangements were handled by the Campbell - Ennis - Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville, PA.

Ricky L. Scott
Ricky L. Scott, 42, of 103 Mondor Drive, Chambersburg, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

Born April 24, 1964 in Chambersburg, he was the son of Donald W. and Beverly K. (Morton) Scott of Chambersburg. He was a life long resident of the St. Thomas area.

Mr. Scott graduated from James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, with the Class of 1982. He also attended the Franklin County Career and Technology Center.

He and his wife, Kimberly A. (Danzberger) Scott, were married June 21, 1986. They lived on School House Lane, St. Thomas, before moving to their current residence 15 years ago.

Mr. Scott was a member of St. Thomas Fire Department, St. Thomas Sportsmans Club, Detrich Brechbill American Legion Post 612, St. Thomas and Marion Volunteer Fire Company, Marion.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and woodworking.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a brother, Ray E. Scott and his wife Pam, of Mercersburg; a sister, Christine M. Peiffer and her husband Robert, of Chambersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Miller- Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. John A. Ile officiating.

Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Garden, Chambersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to C.O.R.E., c/o Sally Blackall, 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.

Clara Mae Oberholzer
Clara Mae (Noll) Oberholzer, 57, of 15799 Marsh Road, Waynesboro, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 in her home. She was in failing health for the past month.

Born Jan. 17, 1950 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Betty Jane (Gray) Noll. She lived her early life in Greencastle, moving to Waynesboro in 1962.

Mrs. Oberholzer graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1967.

She and her husband, Ronald E. Oberholzer, were married April 29, 1978 in Leitersburg, Md. They moved to the present residence in 1987.

Mrs. Oberholzer was employed at the Waynesboro Shoe Factory from 1967 through 1969; Frick Company, Waynesboro from 1971 through 1972; Landis Machine Company, Waynesboro from 1976 through 1980; Regency Thermographers Inc., Waynesboro from 1972 through 1975 and again from 1988 through 1991; and then was a clerk at Martins Food, Hagerstown from 1995 through 1997 and prior to retiring in 2002 on disability, a clerk at Food Lion in Hagerstown, Md. from 1998 through 2002.

In her early years, she attended the Gospel Chapel in Waynesboro.

Mrs. Oberholzer enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Kelly Jane Hott of Hagerstown; two sons, Scott A. Noll of Dallas and Ronald A. Oberholzer of Hagerstown; two step-children, Corey Bingaman of Waynesboro and Babbette Swartz of Oklahoma; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and number of nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Whitlock, and a brother, Charles I. Noll.

Services were held the afternoon of Monday, Feb. 5 in Grove- Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro with Robert E. Deeds officiating.

Burial was in Antietam cemetery near Waynesboro.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with the funeral expenses.

G. Robert Izer
G. Robert Izer, 97, a resident of the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, for nearly two years and formerly of 606 Lynn Dr., Greencastle, died at 12:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 in the nursing home. Born May 19, 1909 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Nora (Swisher) Izer.

Clarence E. Grove
Clarence E. Grove, 84, of 717 Mason Dixon Road, Greencastle, died at 1:20 p.m..M. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born Nov. 19, 1922 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Luther and Katie (Eshleman) Grove. Mr. Grove was a farmer and was a school bus driver for the Greencastle-Antrim School District for 20 years. Following his retirement, he refinished furniture.

Barbara E. Barnes
Barbara E. (Hummer) Barnes, 57, of 8891 Larry Drive, Greencastle, died at 4:31 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 in Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born Dec. 5, 1949 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Lewis V. Sr. and Mary Marie (Helms) Hummer. She was a life long resident of the Greencastle area.

Robert C. Will
Robert C. Will, 60, of 476 Nature Lane, Warfordsburg, died at 8:18 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at Martinsburg VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va. He had been in failing health for three years and critically ill for the last month. Born March 27, 1946 in Ridley Park, he was the son of the late Anthony C. and Albertine M. (Ewald) Will.

L. Elaine Shearer Machel
March 1, 1938 - June 4, 2008
L. Elaine Shearer Machel, 70, of 440 Hamilton Avenue, Chambersburg, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 in her home following a lengthy illness. Born March 1, 1938 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Earl J. and A. Margaret Miller Shearer.

A 1956 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Elaine was retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, where she worked as a Supply System Analyst for the Department of the Army. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees # 1063 in Chambersburg. Elaine was an avid birdwatcher and she enjoyed traveling. A former resident of Hawaii, the islands were a very special place to her.

She is survived by her husband, George E. Machel, whom she married April 27, 1957; a daughter, Nina M. Machel and husband James T. Karcher of Pittsburgh, PA; two grandchildren, J. Christian and Marie Elaine Karcher; and a sister, Marty McKenrick of Madison, AL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 7, 2008 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
