Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Mr. H. Brett Moberly

Mr. H. Brett Moberly, 57, of Frederick, who more recently resided at Citizens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born in Frederick Aug. 19, 1950, he was a son of the late George Ross and Marian Rebecca (Waterman) Moberly and graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1968. Brett was an accomplished musician and played in several area bands before suffering paralyzing injuries in a motor vehicle accident. Although a quadriplegic from those injuries, he maintained a somewhat active life and enjoyed fishing, music, NASCAR racing and reading science fiction. He was also an avid Washington Redskin's fan and enjoyed dining out and was a gourmet food connoisseur.

He is survived by a daughter, Heather Keisery and husband, Gary and their children, Bryan, Nolan, Jordan and Dylan Keirsey, all of Mount Alto, Pa.; a brother, Brian K. Moberly, of Frederick; a niece, Jennifer Sanders and husband, Kevin and their children, Michael, Kelsey, Kaitlyn, Kinsey and Reagan, all of Martinsburg, W.Va.; aunts and uncles, Jack Moberly, of Frederick, Lynn Moberly, of Walkersville, Peggy Blank, of N.C., Jane Waterman and Donna Peacock, both of N.H., Harry Waterman, ME, Sharon Routhier, of Ga. and numerous cousins.

The family will receive friend from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Mark L. Foucart, Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Walkersville, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in his memory to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, 636 Morris Turnpike, Suite 3Aw, Short Hills, NJ 07078 or www.christopherreeve.org.

Mr. Bernard Mossburg

Mr. Bernard Cleveland Mossburg, of Braddock Heights, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at
Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Blanche V. Main Mossburg, whom he married Feb. 12, 1946.
Born Feb. 12, 1921 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Harry Cleveland Mossburg and the late Francis Oland Mossburg Benner. He was the stepson of the late Emma Fitze Mossburg.

Mr. Mossburg helped his  Father in farming. After his  Father retired and had a sale, Mr. Mossburg went to Fort Detrick for three years working for a piping company putting in new oil-fired burners. From there, he went to Essroc Material Cement Company, formerly Alpha Portland Cement, in Lime Kiln for 27 and a half years, retiring in 1984.

He was a life member of the Eagles Club, the Red Mens Club and the Jeffersonian Pariotic Club and a member of the Moose and Amvets Clubs. He also belonged to the Francis Scott Key Old Car Club. He enjoyed working on and showing his antique cars.

Surviving besides his wife, Blanche, is a brother, Paul W. Mossburg of Frederick; three sisters, Pauline Eaves of Frederick, Mary West of Jefferson, and Peggy Nesbitt and husband, Bob of Rush, New York; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his wife and the many friends who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at the Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Burnis D. Barrett officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mrs. Patricia Orrence

Patricia B. Orrence, 73, formerly of Montgomery County, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008. She was the
wife of Robert T. Orrence Sr.

Born March 20, 1934, in Bryan, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Esther Fannen Boyer.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Orrence is survived by her children, Terry Orrence and wife, Pam, of Frederick, David Orrence and wife, Jacky, of Kearneysville, W.Va., Karen Orrence of Frederick, Bill Orrence and wife, Wendy, of Brunswick, Mary Marth and husband, Rich, of Rockville, Jenny Newman and husband, Ernie, of Damascus; her thirteen grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Ball of Olathe, Kan., and a brother, David Boyer of Big Canoe, Ga.

Visitation with family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home,106 E. Church St., Frederick.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, from the funeral home. Rev. Linda Healy will officiate.
Interment will be private.

Mrs. Amy Pevey

Amy Louise Pevey, age 38, passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 8, 2008. She was
the husband of Jonathan Pevey of Frederick. Born on Sept. 16, 1969 in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of Patty (Grove) Heck of Gaithersburg, and the late Charles A. Hairfield. Also surviving is her stepfather, Roy.

Mrs. Pevey graduated in 1988 from Seneca Valley High School. She was employed for 16 years at Bartlett Tree Experts, located in Rockville. She enjoyed spending weekends and summers at Riverbend.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and mother, are two children, Amber M. Wilkins and Jacob S. Pevey. Amy is also the sister of Charles, Timothy, Steven, Rochelle and Becky.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, at the Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where a service will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at 8 p.m. Interment private. Contributions may be made directly to Mrs. Pevey's family for her daughter, Amber Michelle Wilkins' college fund.

Ms. Margaret Phebus

Margaret Elizabeth Phebus, 97, of Frederick, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at Northhampton Manor
Health Care.

Born Aug. 25, 1910, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin E. and Clara Burgess Phebus.

Ms. Phebus, along with her late mother Clara were members of the Parkway Community Church of God in Frederick. They joined the church on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1963. She enjoyed bike riding and rode all of her life and loved it , but had to stop riding about the age of 85, due to the traffic.

She worked for several years at the Barbara Fritchie Candy Store when it was located on West Patrick Street and was owned by Mr. Armon Cramer. She often said she had outlived her family and friends, but was very grateful for the two wonderful friends she had, Darlo Weddle and Nancy Bruchey.

Ms. Phebus is survived by one niece, Betty Harris and husband, Robert, of Smithsburg, a greatniece, Linda D. Harris, a great-nephew, Mark R. Harris and wife, JoAnne, and two great-greatnieces, Grace and Charlotte Harris.

Ms. Phebus was preceded in death by her two sisters, Helen Phebus and Nina G. Reid and her two brothers, Russell E. and Albert A. Phebus. She was the last of her immediate family.

Visitation with family will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, at the Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. Rev. Howard L. Ruley and Paul Stalls Jr.,the outreach director of Life and Liberty Baptist Church will officiate.

Interment will be at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Mr. Guy Remsberg

Guy Woodlow Remsberg, age 73, of Frederick, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born on Jan. 6, 1935, he was the son of John Remsberg and Bethel Smith Remsberg.

Mr. Remsberg worked during his adult life as a painter and foreman, employed by Frederick Paint and Supply. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and hunting. He loved telling stories about his time fishing. He enjoyed working mechanically on his boat and his car.

Mr. Remsberg is survived by his fiancé, Grace Tobery. He is also survived by two children, Alan Tobery, of Frederick, and Karen Toberty, of Frederick. He was the grandfather of six, Justin, Chasity, Madison, Thomas, Nathan, and Courtney. Also surviving is one sister, Betsy Remsberg, of Frederick.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

The Interment will follow at the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery, Middletown. The Rev. Charles G.
Beekley will officiate.

Mrs. Mary Sayers

Mary Crocker Sayers, 46, of Frederick, died peacefully Jan. 25, 2008 at home in Frederick, where she lived with her husband, Kevin Cunliff Sayers and son, N. Crocker Sayers.

Mary was born on July 30, 1961 in Montclair, N.J. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1979 and from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. in 1983. She received her master's degree in business administration at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Class of 2001. Mary was a vice president and trust officer at BB&T for many years, and developed strong relationships with hundreds of clients across the country, as well as locally.

She was dedicated to serving others both personally and professionally. Mary embraced motherhood with unmatched dedication and enthusiasm. She enjoyed every moment possible with her son, Crocker, husband, Kevin, and her large circle of family and friends. She was a very creative, artistic person, which was demonstrated by contributing to the Frederick Holiday Show and sharing her love of arts and crafts with family and friends. She served on the board of the City of Frederick Airport Commission, was a member of the Frederick County Estate Planning Council, and a dedicated volunteer to countless community service projects.

Mary touched people in a variety of exceptional ways from her quick wit, her "ever-ready" camera to catch the moment, to her never-ending thirst for adventure. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She inspired, supported, coached, listened, laughed, and loved everyone around her. Mary loved her time in Baker Park from enjoying the Sunday concerts to watching her son play soccer. She made an impact on the whole Frederick community and through her life we have all bonded together to be better persons.

Her death left a big hole in many people's hearts and she will be missed every moment of every day. In every direction we will be reminded of Mary's bright smile, thoughtful insights, sense of humor, and endless cravings! She was a fighter in every sense of the word. She and her husband fought long and hard to build a family, and continued the long fight with her cancer. Even at the lowest points of her illness she was determined to enjoy her life with family and friends. Her wonderful legacy will live on in each one of us.

Mary is survived by her husband, Kevin Cunliff Sayers; son, Nicholas Crocker Sayers; mother, Margot O'Connell of Lavallette, N.J.; and three sisters, Margaret Birmingham of Wilmington, Del., Elizabeth Crocker of Montclair, N.J. and Jennifer Murphy of Ogdensburg, N.J. Mary will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews, Megan, John and Mary Claire Birmingham and James and Michael Murphy.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, located in downtown Frederick.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and officiated by  Father Keith Boisvert.

Interment will be at Mount Olivet cemetery following the service. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary's name to the "Friends of Baker Park", P.O. Box 4146, Frederick, MD 21705 for the purchase of a memorial bench, or to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church Building Fund, 8428 Opposumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

R. Leon Winpigler

R. Leon Winpigler, 86, formerly of Frederick died Wednesday, January 9,
2008. He was the husband of Dorothy M. Shipley Winpigler.

Born March, 1921 in Frederick, he was the son of the late James Roger Winpigler and Hattie Lare Riddlemoser.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are his sisters Doris Bottcher of Stuart, Fla., Elsie M. Flook Barger, Deloris L. Winpigler Pfeiffer, Mary Lou WInpigler, Shirley A. Winpigler Rice, Edith M. Winpigler Troupe all of Frederick, his sister-in-law Suzanne Schmid and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Winpigler was preceded in death by his stepmother Bertha Mae Flook Winpigler, his brothers Alden A. and Charles W.
Flook, John E. Winpigler, sisters Eva A. Flook Grimes and Patricia L. Winpigler
Clem.

Memorial services will be held on Friday January 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home 106 East Church Street, Frederick.
Reverend Theodore E. Haas will officiate.

Interment will be Friday January 18, 2008 at the Mount Olivet cemetery,
Frederick.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of Frederick County 5712-D Industry Lane Frederick, MD 21704.
