Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Blanche P. Yaukey

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Blanche P. Yaukey, 89, of Penn Hall-Menno Haven, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Penn Hall.

Born Jan. 15, 1908, in Rouzerville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Daniel and Lillie M. Fox Peters.

Her husband, Crawford L. Yaukey, died in 1992.

She was a 1929 graduate of Shippensburg College.

She taught school for 35 years, and was at Fayetteville Elementary for the last 15 of those years, retiring in 1970.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

She also was a member of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

She is survived by one son, Gerald A. Yaukey of Frederick, Md.; one sister, Isabelle Hanks of Chambersburg; and two grandsons, Kirk A. Yaukey and Kevin A. Yaukey.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Penn Hall, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Fannie W. Sollenberger

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Fannie W. Sollenberger, 91, of 2075 Scotland Ave., died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Menno Haven in Chambersburg.

Born Nov. 3, 1906, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin L. and Nancy Wingert Musser.

Her first husband, Martin L. Oberholser, died in 1934. They were married Nov. 11, 1926.

Her second husband, Amos E. Sollenberger, died in 1954. They were married March 6, 1948.

She was employed as housekeeper at the former Penn Hall School in Chambersburg, retiring in 1971. She formerly worked for Shirtcraft Co. and H.J. Heinz Co. She was housekeeper for the Wood family in Chambersburg for 18 years.

She was a lifetime member of Mount Rock Brethren in Christ Church in Shippensburg, Pa., where she was a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher, and a member of Women's Missionary Sewing Auxiliary. She also served on the building committee for the new church in 1975, and on the Cheer Up Committee.

She was known for the quilts she made.

She is survived by one daughter, Anna Mae Oberholser of Chambersburg; one stepdaughter, Esther M. Hippensteele; three grandchildren, Beverly W. Sollenberger of Tinton Falls, N.J., Dennis E. Wenger of Chambersburg, and Dale E. Wenger of Huntingdon Valley, Pa.; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth O. Wenger; one stepdaughter, Ruth S. Mellott; and two stepsons, Irvin Sollenberger and Joseph Sollenberger.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Rock Brethren in Christ Church, 22 Mount Rock Road, Shippensburg. The Rev. Roger N. Witter will officiate. Burial will be in Air Hill Cemetery in Greene Township, Pa.

A viewing will be at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m.; and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to The Gospel Tide Hour, P.O. Box 151, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

A. Arletta Gelwicks

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A. Arletta Avey Gelwicks, 77, of 9368 Tomstown Road, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at Quincy United Methodist Home in Quincy, Pa.

Born June 12, 1920, in Tomstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary Edith McLaughlin Avey.

She was a lifelong homemaker.

She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waynesboro.

She also was a member of Chapter 739 AARP in Waynesboro, and National AARP.

She enjoyed working on ceramics and making dolls.

She volunteered at Quincy United Methodist Home.

She is survived by her husband, C. Chester Gelwicks, whom she married June 9, 1938; one sister, M. Jean Cooper of Hagerstown; one brother, Warren Avey of St. George, Utah; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles W. Avey, who died in 1990.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Walter A. Stuart will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Quincy.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund of Quincy United Methodist Home, P.O. Box 128, Quincy, Pa. 17247.

Janet L.W. Miller

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Janet L. Wagaman Miller, 61, of 5189 Lincoln Way West, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Aug. 25, 1936, in South Mountain, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ross H. and Elsie Gollaway Wagaman.

As a child, she attended New Baltimore School in South Mountain.

In the late 1960s, she was employed as a food service worker at Samuel Dixon State Hospital, now known as South Mountain Restoration Center. She later worked at Franklin County Nursing Home in the laundry department.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her husband, Robert R. Miller, whom she married Oct. 24, 1969; one son, Clem D. Wagaman of Fayetteville; five sisters, Faye Misner, Helen Ickes and Mary Jane Miller, all of South Mountain, Delores Baker of Mont Alto, Pa., and Kathryn Wagaman of Chambersburg; four brothers, Robert Wagaman and James Wagaman, both of South Mountain, Leonard Wagaman of Waynesboro, Pa., and Richard Wagaman of Philadelphia; one granddaughter; three grandsons; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Art Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery in South Mountain.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Robert F. Gipe

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert F. Gipe, 65, of 101 Eisenhower Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg.

Born June 9, 1932, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Clarence S. and Nancy Jones Gipe.

He was an equipment operator for the Borough of Chambersburg, retiring in 1994.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Navy aboard the USS Wisconsin.

He was a member of Zion Covenant Church in Chambersburg.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis R. Gipe and James L. Gipe, both of Chambersburg; one sister, Verna Haas of Chambersburg; one brother, Clarence E. Gipe of Chambersburg; and one grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert C. Kochert will officiate. Entombment will be in Parklawns Mausoleum in Chambersburg.

A viewing will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Covenant Church, 1102 Locust Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Amos R. Gayman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Amos A. Gayman, 83, of 1545 Edgar Ave., died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 18, 1914, in Pleasant Hall, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob R. and Catherine Hoover Gayman.

He was a self-employed farmer, and was the third generation of his immediate family to operate the family farm in the Pleasant Hall area until his retirement in 1977.

He was a member of the Old Order River Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth V. Zullinger Gayman; whom he married April 12, 1938; one son, Garnet I. Gayman of Pleasant Hall; one sister, Catherine Wenger of Pleasant Hall; one brother, Samuel A. Gayman of St. Thomas, Pa.; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway, in Chambersburg. Bishop Raymond Bricker, Minister Carl Meyers and Minister Kenneth Meyers will officiate. Burial will be in Air Hill Cemetery in Chambersburg.

A viewing will be at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, in Chambersburg, today from 6 to 9 p.m.; and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Stella A. Bricker

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Stella A. Bricker, 84, a resident of Menno-Haven, and formerly of 3709 Edenville Road, Chambersburg, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Menno-Haven.

Born Nov. 7, 1913, in Antrim Township, Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith Zeger Keller.

Prior to her marriage, she was employed by the former H.J. Heinz Co. in Chambersburg. After her marriage, she and her husband farmed in the Chambersburg area for 30 years. After retiring from farming, she returned to work and retired from the former H.J. Heinz Co.

She was a member of Salem United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, where she was a member of the Men's and Women's Bible Class.

She was a charter member of Franklin County Society of Farm Women Group 9 and AARP.

She enjoyed flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel W. Bricker, whom she married Jan. 26. 1939; one daughter, Becky D. Mentzer of Chambersburg; one son, Ray K. Bricker of Chambersburg; three sisters, Mabel Knoll and Hazel Rosenberry, both of Chambersburg, and Doris Mentzer of Harrisburg, Pa.; three brothers, Eugene Keller and D. Sharpe Keller, both of Chambersburg, and Maurice Keller of Fayetteville, Pa.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Keller; and two brothers, Josie and Galen Keller.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Salem United Brethren Church, 4349 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John W. Shubert and Bishop J. Howard Meyers will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery in St. Thomas, Pa.

A viewing will be at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Salem United Brethren Church, 4349 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Anna L. Kauffman

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Anna Lillian Kauffman, 77, of South Mountain Restoration Center, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at the center.

Born July 10, 1920, in York, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Flair Schrum-Rouscher Stonesifer.

Her husband, Lester William Kauffman, died in 1986. They were married in 1940.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by one son, Lester William Kauffman Jr. of York; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in York. Pastor Donald Belth will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in York.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Arrangements are by Miller-Grove Funeral Home Inc., 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
