Melvin C. Reichert Sr.
Melvin C. Reichert Sr., 49, of Pine Grove, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at home.
Born in Pottsville, September 11, 1954, he was a son of Lester and Alice Reichert Kimmel of Pine Grove. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as an E4 from August 10, 1972, until May 26, 1978.

He was employed in demolition, and was a truck driver for the North East Industrial Services, Mount Carmel.

He was a member of Pine Grove Wesleyan Church, Pine Grove.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, the former Donna M. Miler; a son, Melvin C. Jr., at home; a daughter, Tracy Lynn Reichert of Minersville; two brothers, Kim L. Kimmel of Pine Grove, and Lanny Kimmel of Ashland; and a sister, Tonya Novack of Pine Grove.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 30, in Pine Grove Wesleyan Church. Pastors Tim Moore, Justin Leininger and Barry Brown will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary C. Rissinger
Mary C. Rissinger, 75, of Pottsville, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional medical Center, Pottsville.
Born in Pottsville, April 6, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Trough Downey.

She was a 1946 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and graduated from the Pottsville School of Nursing in 1949. She was a registered nurse at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville; Good Samaritan Hospital Caring Corner; Golden Oldies Retirees; and Ladies of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was the first nurse to earn Employee of the Year at Good Samaritan Hospital.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Downey, Jr., and Robert Downey.

Surviving are three sons, Matthew of Audobon, Mark of Sacramento, and Luke of Pottsville; and six grandchildren, Charlie, Mike, Rebecca, Emily, Marybeth, and Abigail; and a great-grandson, Kirk.

Services were held Friday, July 23, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Interment was in St. Patrick No. 3 Cemetery, Pottsville. Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Pottsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Floyd A. Scheib
Floyd A. Scheib, 86, of the Susquahanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, formerly of Hegins, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at the village.
She was born in Lykens Twp., on October 30, 1917.

He was the owner of the former Floyd A Scheib Trucking, Inc. and the former Elsie's Ceramics, Inc. both of Hegins, Pa.

He was of the Protestant Faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Limbert Scheib, who died in 2003.

Surviving are a granddaughter Audrey Maule of Gratz; and two great-grandsons Eric Maule and Brec Maule, both of Gratz.

Graveside Services will be held at the convenience of the family at St. John's Cemetery, Hegins. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles H. Stoneroad, Jr.
Charles H. Stoneroad, Jr., 79, of Millersburg, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his residence.
He was born in Upper Paxton Twp., a son of the late Charles and Irene Krotzer Stoneroad, Sr.

He retired from the former TRW in Harrisburg. He was a founding member, elder and high priest of the Millersburg Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; member of VFW Post No. 5507 and American Legion No. 326; an Army Veteran of World War II; and a volunteer with the Dauphin County Meals on Wheels program.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen.

Surviving are his wife, Geraldine Bechtel Stoneroad; a son, John; a daughter, Lola Zankiewicz, both of Millersburg; a brother, Marion of Enola; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Wednesday July 28, at 11 a.m., at Hoover Funeral Home in Millersburg. Burial with military honors will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville. Viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to his church, Klinger Road, Millersburg, PA 17061. Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling the arrangements.

Sadie E. Swartz
Sadie E. Swartz, 88, of Halifax, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in the Harrisburg Hospital.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, July 24, in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.

Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle was in charge of the arrangements.

Bernice V. Bixler
Bernice Vera Bixler, 76, formerly of Hegins, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont.
Born in Hegins, October 12, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Harry K. and Eva M. Bixler Bixler.

She was a retired seamstress from the former Philmark Mfg., Valley View.
She was a member of the International Garment Workers Union; and St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Harry Bixler, Jr.; and by two sisters, Joyce Clark and Betty Hoffman.

Surviving are three brothers, Lyle Bixler of Clearfield, Larry Bixler of Tremont, and Delmar Bixler of Gordon; and a sisters, Anna Kroh of RD Hegins.

Private graveside services were held at St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA, PO Box 734, Minersville, PA 17954. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles H. Brown Jr.
Charles H. Brown Jr., 51, of Pitman, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township, from injuries suffered as a result of a motorcycle accident in East Cameron Township, Northumberland County.
Born in Charleston, W. VA., November 13, 1952, he was a son of the late Rev. Charles H. Sr. and Pauline J. Vernon Brown.

He was a general contractor and was the owner of Charles Brown Trucking of Pitman. He owned a fleet of 40 trucks that delivered supplies for 84 Lumber, covering the eastern Pennsylvania district.

He was a 1970 graduate of People's Bible High School, Colorado Springs, Colo., and a 1975 graduate of People's Bible College, Colorado Springs, with a bachelor's degree in English. He was a professional musician, playing numerous instruments.

He attended God's Missionary Church, Lebanon, and was a member of the Mahantongo Fire Company, Pitman.

Surviving are his wife, the former Rebecca F. Courtright, whom he married in May 1975; two daughters, Joy A. Kashner and Julia R. Brown, both of Pitman; two sons, Charles H. III and Kevin A., both of Pitman; two brothers, Philip W., Monument, Colo., and Laverne R., RR1 Elizabethville; a sister, Kathleen J. Stevenson, Vineland, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Christ United Church of Christ, Leck Kill. The Rev. Barry Arnold, Lebanon, and the Rev. Leonard Wolfgang, Ashland, will officiate. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Klingerstown. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Elwood A. Brown
Elwood A. Brown, 88, of Muir, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in Muir, April 20, 1916, he was a son of the late Alvin and Carrie Troutman Brown. He was a graduate of the former Porter Township High school.

He was a retired mechanic and bus driver for the former H. A. Daub Transportation and a retired coal miner.

He was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Muir, and Tower City Loyal Order of Moose 1603. He was a life member of the Tower City Fire Company.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Gladys Harmen; a son, Donald E. of Muir; two daughters, Darlene E. Schwalm of Muir, and Dorothea E. Lebo of Halifax; a sister, Priscilla Mason of Maryland; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 20, from the chapel of Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Muir. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Violet E. Kessler
Violet E. Kessler, 84, of Millersburg, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill.
She was born in Gratz, a daughter of the late John and Maude Miller Smeltz.

She retired from Berg Electronics. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Millersburg and Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 721.

She was the widow of Homer H. Kessler and also preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Lenker.

Surviving are a daughter, Constance Lenker and her husband, Richard of Millersburg; two brothers, Clarence Smeltz of Tonopah, AZ and Stuart Smeltz of Schuylkill Haven; a companion, Marlin Koppenhaver of Sacramento; and nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Saturday, July 17, at Hoover Funeral Homes in Millersburg. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax. Hoover Funeral Homes, Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Patricia A. Keiter
Patricia A. Keiter, 72, of Millersburg, died Wednesday July 14, 2004, as a result of a vehicular accident in Millersburg.
Born in Millersburg, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Silks Long.

She was a member of the Millersburg Assembly of God Church and volunteered at the Human Service Center in Elizabethville.

Surviving are her husband Earl C. Keiter; a son Renney Paul of Wiconisco; two daughters Carol Travitz of Millersburg and Leslie Keiter of Wiconisco; a brother George Long, Jr. of Millersburg and a sister DeLoyce Chubb of Elizabethtown; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Tuesday July 20, at Hoover Funeral Home in Millersburg. Interment was in Messiah Lutheran Cemetery, Fisherville.

Memorial donations may be made to her church 2261 Shippen Dam Road Millersburg, 17061. Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene R. Lewars
Eugene R. Lewars, 78, of Pottsville, formerly of Pine Grove, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Pine Grove, February 13, 1926, he was a son of the late Sterling and Alda Wenrich Lewars.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in Panama.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a daughter, Cynthia Lewars; a brother, Willard.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Mary A. Spencer; two sons, Michael of Summit Station, and Sterling of Pottsville; three daughters, Joanne Schafer of Pottsville, Linda Bender of Pine Grove, and Sandra Lewars of Pottsville; a sister, Adelle Shiffer of Pine Grove; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services were private. The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, was in charge of arrangements.
