Marie Davis

Funeral services for Marie Davis are 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at St. Mark A.M.E. Church in Needville.
Visitation is noon to 8 p.m. Monday, April 6 at Gooden Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
Marie Burton, better known as Madea, was born March 2, 1928, to Julius “June” Burton and Mary Gentry Burton in Waelder.
Madea grew up and attended church an school in Waelder. Her family later moved to Needville, where she met and married U.L. Davis; their union was blessed with four children.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 63 years, Pete; daughters, Earline Munoz and husband, Junior, and Julie Shorter and husband, Walter, all of Needville; sister, Anna Mae White of San Antonio; brothers, Edward Gentry and wife, Dorothy, of San Antonio, and Marshall Wilkerson of Waco; sister-in-law, Ethel Hutson and husband, Utah, of Needville; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Final arrangements are entrusted to the care of Gooden Funeral Home, 1716 Ave. E in Rosenberg, 281-342-9169.

Terry Leroy Seiler

Leroy A. Seiler, 89, was born Nov. 23, 1919, near Fairchilds, to Albert Seiler and Julia Schuelke Seiler. He passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday, March 27, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in the Stateroom of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
Leroy attended school in Needville, at the Seiler School, named for his grandfather, Adolph Seiler. In 1938, he went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Mexico. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1946. Entering as a private, he quickly rose to the rank of Captain and Company Commander. He was stationed in Japan for six months, and received many commendations, including one from the President Truman, for excellent performance in his duties.
In January 1946, he met his son Larry, age 15 months, for the first time. He worked for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, for 30 years until he retired in 1976. He and his wife, Mildred, then moved to Colorado for a few years before returning to Texas and settling near Blanco.
Leroy loved traveling with his family to three countries and all 50 states. He was a den dad for six years, an assistant Boy Scout leader for five years, and a member of the American Legion in Lake Jackson. For 10 years, he helped build the Gem of the Hills Community Center in Blanco.
He was preceded in death by his son, Leslie Eugene Seiler; parents; and brother, Wilburn Seiler, of Rosenberg.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Mildred Palat Seiler, the love of his life for sixty-six years; brother, Floyd Seiler and wife, Martha Nell, of Pearland; son, Larry Seiler and wife, Terri, of Austin: three grandchildren: Leslie Carl Seiler and wife, Kelly, of Denton, Kaylene Thomas and husband, Robert, of Kingwood, and Cynthia Swendner and husband, Marc, of Austin; seven great-grandchildren: Erin, Coleen and Delaney Thomas of Kingwood, Aubrey Peters and Julia Seiler of Denton, and Rowan and Caelyn Swendner of Austin; and close family friend, Monica Irene Davis of Austin.

Otto Meyen

Funeral services for Otto Lee Meyen, 73, of Needville, are 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. Interment follows in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 27, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.
Otto was born Nov. 29, 1935, in Needville, to John Meyen and Ellie Boecker Meyen. He passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in Richmond.
Otto was loved by his sons and grandchildren and will be missed by everyone he touched.
He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne Jeanette Meyen; parents, John and Ellie Meyen; and sister, Christine Valka.
Otto is survived by his sons, David Meyen, and Chris Meyen and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren: Megan Meyen, Jace Meyen and Riley Meyen; siblings: Alton Meyen, Dorothy Farmer, Frank Meyen and Aline Lichnovsky; and other relatives and many friends.

Elbert Oliver Jr.

Funeral services for Elbert Oliver Jr. are 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at New Jerusalem Starlight Encampment Building, 3333 1/2 Ashe Road in Simonton, with the Rev. D. Johnson officiating. Burial follows in the Masonic cemetery in Simonton.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Encampment Building.
Elbert passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

Lori Browning

Funeral services for Lori Denise Browning, 48, of Richmond, are 10 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at the Garmany and Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 Fourth St. in Rosenberg. Burial follows at Morton cemetery in Richmond.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at the Garmany and Carden Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.
Lori Browning was born Aug. 20, 1960, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Dave and Shirley Hadley. She passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sealy. Her family will remember her as a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Foreman Hughes.
Survivors include her husband, Dirk Browning of Richmond; five children: Kris Morgan of Lousiana, Heather Browning-Kellar of Richmond, Amanda Morgan of Wallis, Clint Browning of Katy, and Adam Collins of Seagoville, Texas; four grandchildren: Jacob Kellar, Chase Kellar, Zoey Kellar and Faith Morgan; and two brothers, Tommy Hughes and Mark Hadley.

Ray Pina

A funeral mass for Ray Allen Pina is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial follows at the Angleton cemetery.
Visitation is 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Monday, April 13, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton.
Ray was born May 27, 1988, in Galveston, and went to be with our Heavenly Father Sunday, April 5, 2009.
He was proceeded in death by his grandparents: Roman and Eva Rodriguez, and Domingo and Julia Pina; and infant brother, Roger Pina.
Survivors include his parents, Juan and Yolanda Pina; daughter, Marissa Yvette Pina; girlfriend, Ashley Delos Santos; siblings: Cathy and husband, Paul Mata, Jason Pina and wife, Yajaira, Jessica Pina and Santana Flores, Juan Manuel Pina Jr. and Amanda Pina; godparents, Paul and Mary Pina; 13 nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Rodriguez and Pina families would like to thank the many people in the community who helped throughout this traumatic time in the wake of this tragedy.

Mary Ann Fleshman

Mary Ann Fleshman of Angleton passed away on Wednesday at her residence at the age of 71.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 1st Baptist Church in Angleton with Dr. Rodney Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Angleton cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Lawson, Kurt Lawson, Kirby Lawson, Jonathan Raymond, Brandon Fleshman, Micah Fleshman and Bryan Vanderhoof.
Mrs. Fleshman was born in Eliasville, Texas on November 5, 1934 to James and Mina Wood Tipton. On May 4, 1952 she became the bride of Wendell Ralph Fleshman. She was the owner and operator of Little Mina’s Children’s Clothing Store in Angleton for 24 years and was also a hospice volunteer for 3 years. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and an active member of First Baptist Church in Angleton for 48 years.
Her parents and grandson Kyle Lawson preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Wendell Fleshman; son, Andy Fleshman and wife Brenda of West Columbia; daughters, Mina Lawson and husband Kent of Sugar Land, Mandy Vanderhoof and husband Troy of Wylie; brothers, Arthur “Dink” Tipton and wife Ruth of Humble; sister, Jane Fowler and husband Pat; grandchildren, Kevin Lawson, Kurt Lawson and wife Ginger, Kirby Lawson, Brandon Fleshman and wife Lacey, Micah Fleshman, Bryan Vanderhoof, Krista Raymond and husband Jonathan, Abby Vanderhoof; and great grandchild, Tyler Raymond.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Angleton Christian School, 237 E. Locust, Angleton, Texas 77515.

Jessie Lightfoot Jr.

Memorial services for Jessie Lee Lightfoot Jr, are 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Rose-Rich Funeral and Cremation.
Final disposition is 9:45 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Houston National cemetery in Houston.

Dick Haygood

Funeral services for James Richard “Dick” Haygood are 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Rosenberg, 1117 First St. in Rosenberg, with the Rev. Dr. Donnie Melton and the Rev. Dr. Jim Adams officiating. Burial follows at Davis-Greenlawn cemetery in Rosenberg.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009, at the Garmany and Carden Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.
Dick was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Houston, to Carter and Lois Haygood. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Thursday, April 9, 2009, after his battle with cancer.
Dick was reared in Rosenberg and got his bachelor degree from Southwest Texas State and his master’s degree from Prairie View. He taught for 34 years. He spent a couple of years teaching and coaching in Waller and is best known as a Texas history teacher for Lamar CISD. After he retired from teaching, he continued working with children in an after-school program. He also worked for Fort Bend Telephone Company. He was very active as a member of the First Baptist Church of Rosenberg, serving many years as a deacon and a member of the choir, often singing duets with his wife.
Dick’s many years of community service included being a Boy Scout leader and a Little League coach, a member of the Optimist Club, and entertaining nursing home residents with his singing and storytelling.
Dick is best remembered for his kind heart, infectious sense of humor, generosity, and his genuine love for people.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Dorothy McSparran.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marinella Haygood; children and grandchildren: Steve Haygood with his children, Steven and Danielle, Rusty Haygood and wife, Lisa, with their children: Chris, Jordan, Joshua, Brandon and Brooke, Marc Haygood and wife, Laura, with daughter, Ryan Gray; and Susy and husband, John Webb, with their daughters, Avery and Sydney; sister, Mary McGee and husband, Jim; cousins: Evelyn Meyer and James Lee Haygood, Fred Haygood, Dan Julian and Betsy Julian; brother-in-law, Don McSparran; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick Haygood was a loving husband, endearing father, proud grandfather, loyal friend to many, and a joy to all who knew him.
Serving as pallbearers are his Sunday School class: Earl Welch, Shirley Kennelly, Dennis Keprta, Bobby Perry Sr., Lloyd Engelhardt, Floyd Engel, Kyle Chaddock and Dick Robbins.
Honorary pallbearers include Robert Dunn, Mel Loeb, F.E. Hubbell, Bill Crippen, Dr. James White, Jerry Sindel, Vic Novosad, Newell Finch, Les Burton, Alvis Bell, Norman Woods, Bill Simmons, Joe White, Bobby Baker, Orville Carden, Leon Ulrich, J.R. Hardin, Al Meyer, Greg Motal, Edwin Hrncir, James Patterson, Daniel Dzierzanowski, Wally Matzka, Gene Kalisek, Matt Koyle, Bill Butler, Walter Balderach, Micky Hubbell and Benny Self.
His family requests any love offering be sent in his name to the music ministry of First Baptist Church of Rosenberg, 1117 First St. in Rosenberg.
Services are under the direction of Garmany and Carden Funeral Directors, 1201 Fourth St. in Rosenberg, 281-342-4671.

Gloria Cobbin

Funeral services for Gloria E. Cobbin, 72, of Richmond are noon Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 14215 FM 2759 in Thompsons, with the Rev. N. Walker officiating the services and the Rev. R. Rueben providing the eulogy. Burial follows in Mt. Pilgrim cemetery in Thompsons.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
Gloria passed away April 13, 2009.
