KATHERINE ABERNATHY
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. - Miss Katherine A. Abernathy, of 320 Tyler Ave., Clarksburg, W.Va., died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, in the United Hospital Center following an extended illness.
She was born in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late William G. Abernathy and Anna May Kight Abernathy.
Surviving are several cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion and Louise Abernathy.
Miss Abernathy was a member of the Broad Oaks United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Mary Reed Sunday School Class and the Women's Society. She retired from the Hope Gas Company with many years of service. She also was a volunteer for the Clarksburg Mission.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend K. Almond presiding. Interment will be in the Bridgeport cemetery.
Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, Clarksburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
EARL L. EMRICK
CUMBERLAND - Earl L. Emrick, 78, of Bank Ave., Cumberland, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 21, 1919, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Alfred E. and Maude (Smith) Emrick. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl (Yaider) Emrick; one brother, William Emrick; and one sister, Betty Northcraft.
Mr. Emrick was a retired engineer for the B&O; Railroad after 36 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Verna (Yaider) Emrick; three stepsons, John Davin, New York, Donald Yaider and wife Cheryl, Ridgeley, W.Va., and John Yaider Jr. and wife Dee, Ridgeley; one stepdaughter, Linda Harden and husband Thomas, Ridgeley; one sister, Margaret Brant, Fredericksburg, Va.; three brothers, Alfred Emrick and wife Carlin, Livonia, Mich., Clarence Emrick Sr., Cumberland, and William Kines and wife Linda, Ridgeley; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
ELMA L. CALHOUN
ROWLESBURG, W.Va. - Elma L. Calhoun, 84, of Rowlesburg, died Thursday, July 23, 1998, in Kingwood.
She was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Rowlesburg, a daughter of the late Ernest L. and Flora Shahan Lee.
She was a homemaker and was Pentecostal by faith.
She is survived by two sons, Junior "Buck" Lee, and Eston "Dickie" Lee, both of Rowlesburg; one daughter, Vernadine M. Dicken, Cumberland, Md.; one brother, Virgil E. Lee, Cumberland; two sisters, Geneva Malone, Fort Ashby, and Theo Nave, Cumberland; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Lee, her second husband, Clifford Calhoun; one daughter, Madeline Lee; two brothers, Freeman and Lester Lee; one sister, Florence Lee; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Burke Chapel, Chestnut Street, Rowlesburg, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 1998, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Ronald Daughtery officiating.
BESSIE M. BRAITHWAITE
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Bessie Mae Braithwaite, 85, of 59 Paxton St., Piedmont, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born March 14, 1913, in Beryl, she was the daughter of the late Eston Washington Watson and the late Viola Mae (Dye) Watson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Braithwaite; two grandchildren, Chris Allen Braithwaite and Samuel Richard Braithwaite; and three brothers, Robert Watson, Dan Watson and Paul Watson.
Mrs. Braithwaite was a homemaker.
Surviving are eight children, James Richard Braithwaite and wife Betty, Shirley Mae Clark and husband Robert, Margaret Ann Smith and husband James, and Mary Louise Broadwater and husband Dwain, all of Keyser, Janet Lee Tichnell and husband Jerry, Swanton, Md., Charles Edward Braithwaite and wife Nancy, and William Lee Braithwaite and wife Debra, all of Keyser, and Lois Ann Clay and husband Russell, Piedmont; 32 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Guinn, Westernport, Md.; and one brother, William Watson, Carlisle, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
ROBERT E. CORBETT
PAW PAW, W.Va. - Robert E. "Bob" Corbett, 66, of Paw Paw, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at the War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends at the Fraley-Kimble Funeral Home, Paw Paw, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Paw Paw Church of Christ, Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Michael Collins officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Burial will follow in the Woodrow cemetery, near Paw Paw.
ETHEL L. ADAMS
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Ethel Leone (Hinkle) Adams, 83, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at her residence.
Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Middle Ridge, she was the daughter of the late George and Clara (Wagoner) Hinkle.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Clifton Adams, on Oct. 1, 1989; two brothers, Chester Hinkle and George Earl Hinkle; and one sister, Margaret Sneathen.
Mrs. Adams was a loving homemaker.
Mrs. Adams was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member of the WSCS. She also belonged to the Fort Ashby Senior Citizens.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry W. Adams and wife, Serena, Fort Ashby, Stephen Adams and wife, Lucy, Denver, Colo., and Randy C. Adams and wife, Donna, Fort Ashby; one daughter, Linda Darrow and husband, Marshall, Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, John Hinkle, Fort Ashby; one sister, Evelyn Kriglein, Fort Ashby; seven grandchildren, Craig W. Adams, Triffy Erickson, Scott Adams, Bob Stallings, Chuck Stallings, Randy Adams II, and Caitlin Adams; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dallas Forren will officiate, assisted by Phillip Dayton.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service time.
