LOUISE F. NICODEMUS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Louise F. Nicodemus, 77, a resident of the Cuppett Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, and formerly of 12 N. Main St., Keyser, died on Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born on March 7, 1921, in New Creek, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Eva (Saville) Hines. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Nicodemus, on Sept. 15, 1980; an adopted daughter, June Haines McLucas; a sister; and several brothers.

Mrs. Nicodemus, "Red," as her friends and family knew her, was a retired clerk from the G.C. Murphy Company. She was United Methodist by Faith.

Her kindness, her love of life, and her sense of humor were a great inspiration to all who knew her.

She is survived by a sister, Verna J. DeShong, and husband, Melvin, Westernport; a brother, Arthur Hines, and wife, Lillian, Fredericksburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nicodemus requested that her body be cremated.

Memorial services will be held at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday, June 11, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jack Sanders officiating.

Private interment will be in the Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

DOROTHY B. NINER
KEYSER, W.Va. - Dorothy B. Evans Niner, 86, formerly of Route 1, Box 189-F, Keyser, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at the Dawn View Manor Nursing Home, Fort Ashby.
Born on May 14, 1912, at Landes, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Mary Rebecca (Judy) Alt. Twice married , she also was preceded in death by both husbands, Arlie R. "Son" Evans, on July 30, 1967, and John A. Niner on May 25, 1993; four brothers, Fred Alt, Homer Alt, Edgar Alt and Russell Alt; and four sisters, Myrtle Yokum, Goldie Simmons, Nellie Mason and Mayme Carskadon.

Mrs. Niner was a retired cook at Fort Ashby High School and was the owner/operator of Evans' Dairy Dip in Fort Ashby. She was a member of the Mineral Baptist Church, Keyser.

Surviving are two daughters, Darlena Hartman, and husband, Don, and Norma Jean Hayes, and husband, Erman "Hoppy," all of Fort Ashby; one son, Richard "Tubby" Evans, and wife, JoAnn, Fort Ashby; one sister, Lela Staggs, Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Mineral Baptist Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Scott Uhlenhopp and the Rev. Warren Shields officiating. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Mineral Baptist cemetery, Keyser.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Mineral Baptist Church, Route 1, Box 189-C, Keyser, WV 26726.

ROLAND M. NOFSINGER
KEYSER, W.Va. - Roland M. Nofsinger, 97, a resident of Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, and formerly of 210 Baker St., Keyser, died on Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at the Nursing Home.
Born July 31, 1901, in Salem, Virginia, he was the son of the late William B. and Elizabeth A. (Hartberger) Nofsinger. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Veronica R. (Cosgrove) Nofsinger, on Oct. 8, 1985; and a daughter, Alma Marie Nofsinger.

Mr. Nofsinger was a retired Superintendent from Westvaco. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Keyser, a 59-year member of the Cumberland Eagles Aerie #245, and was a former Councilman for the Town of Luke, Md.

Surviving are three sons, Robert W. Nofsinger, and wife, Joan M., Keyser, Michael R. Nofsinger, and wife, Midge, Orlando, Fla., and H. Dean Nofsinger, Keyser; five daughters, Elizabeth Ann Spriggs, and husband, Phillip C., Berkeley Springs, Mary Jo Torbet, and husband, John M., Sun City West, Ariz., Helen L. Holder, Keyser, Jean F. Burton, and husband, Harry R., Keyser, and M. Sue Smith, and husband, Glenn C., Williamsport, Md.; one sister, Virginia Biggs, San Diego, Calif. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Grace United Methodist Church, Keyser, on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett and the Rev. S.D. Sawyers officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery, Westernport, Md.

The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Allegany County League for Crippled Children, Willow Brook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.

GERTRUDE V. NUTTER
KEYSER, W.Va. - Gertrude V. Nutter, 87, of 406 Oak St., Keyser, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 28, 1910, at Elk Garden, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Amanda (McDonald) Shirley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Nutter, on March 14, 1969.

Mrs. Nutter attended the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, Keyser.

Surviving are four sons, Donald Nutter, Smithfield, Va., Richard Nutter, Newark, Del., William Nutter, California, and Kenneth Nutter, Keyser; one daughter, Linda McCusker, Columbia, Md.; one sister, Ruth Helmick, Westernport, Md.; and six grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Brackett officiating.

Interment will be in the Kalbaugh cemetery, Elk Garden.

DAVID G. NUZUM
KEYSER, W.Va. - David G. Nuzum, 86, of 201 D St., Keyser, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at the Hodges Nursing Center, Charleston.
Born Aug. 29, 1911, at Shinnston, he was a son of the late Jesse H. and Besse (Cost) Nuzum. He was married in 1939 to the former Leontine Barnett, who preceded him in death on May 30, 1991. He also was preceded in death by two brothers.

Mr. Nuzum was Professor Emeritus after having taught English at Potomac State College for 23 years. He began his teaching career in Clarksburg, W.Va., and came to Keyser in 1938 as head of the English Department at Potomac State College. He later moved into college administration and supervised student group activities.

Professor Nuzum graduated from Victory High School in Clarksburg and received his bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in 1932. He earned his master's degree in English in 1938. He then went on to the University of Texas in Austin for further graduate study. During his tenure at Potomac State College, he published an article on William Shakespeare that was published by West Virginia University.

Mr. Nuzum was a very community-minded citizen having been involved in the Boy Scout program for 41 years. He served on the County United Way Committee, being named the 1991 Outstanding Volunteer. He was named the Keyser Citizen of the Year in 1956, was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Potomac Council Boy Scouts, and in 1992 was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Community Service by the Keyser Area Ministerial Association.

A member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church, he taught the Men's Bible Class and was Elder Emeritus of the church. He was an active member of the Keyser Rotary Club, and served as Past District Governor for the former Rotary District 735. A Paul Harris Fellow, he received the Rotary Foundation District Service Award in 1991. He was a former board member and treasurer of the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce, president of the board of directors of the Mineral County Committee on Aging, and was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the Potomac State College Alumni Association in 1979.

Professor Nuzum held memberships in the American Field Service Adult Chapter, the Mineral County Farm Bureau, Davis Lodge 51 AF & AM, Damascus Commandry 23, Knights Templar, Upper Potomac Shrine Club, Ali-Ghan Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Bodies, Cumberland, Md. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines.

Surviving are one brother, James Robert Nuzum and wife Mary Ellen, Charleston, W.Va.; four nieces, Marybeth Vallance, Huntington, W.Va., Ellen June DiChristina, Atlanta, Ga., Linda Ruth Lake, South Charleston, W.Va., and Donna Dean, Clearwater, Fla.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Keyser Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephen P. Fritz officiating. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.

Entombment will be in the Elk View Masonic cemetery Mausoleum, Clarksburg.

HARVEY "BUZZ" OATES
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Harvey Ellis "Buzz" Oates Sr., 59, of Fort Ashby, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 23, 1938, in Fort Ashby, he was the son of Nellie Violet (Kimble) Oates, Fort Ashby, and the late Manning C. Oates.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Oates.

Mr. Oates had been a carpenter, doing construction work for John Nelson, Myers Brothers, and C & D Alt.

He was a member of Lodge #271, Loyal Order of Moose, Cumberland, and a social member of the Fort Ashby Post #6667, V.F.W.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Orpha Lee "Betty" Oates; one son, Harvey E. "Buster" Oates Jr., and wife, Tina, Lonaconing; one daughter, Barbara Jean Casto and husband, Michael, Fort Ashby; four brothers, James, John and Doug Oates, all of Fort Ashby, and Arthur Oates and wife, Linda, Baltimore; two sisters, Julia "Judy" Bowman and husband, Glen, and Carol Malone and husband, Buck, all of Fort Ashby; one granddaughter, Amanda Lee Oates, Lonaconing; one step-granddaughter, Bethany Ritchie, Lonaconing; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Wesley Beahm officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Casto, Michael Oates, Bruce Myers, Eric Malone, Rodney Bowman, James Oates, Glen Bowman and Dale Chase. Serving as honorary pallbearer Harvey "Buster" Oates Jr.
