AMY D. SLAWTER
KEYSER, W.Va. - Amy Danelle (Dolly) Slawter, 22, of Route 1, Keyser, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident on Route 46, West of Fort Ashby.
Born on Feb. 15, 1976, at Cumberland, Md., she was a daughter of Paul Jacob Dolly of Keyser. Her mother, Sarah Jane (Whetzel) Dolly, died in the same accident.
Mrs. Slawter was employed as a waitress at the Taste O' Home Restaurant in Keyser, and was a member of the Cabin Run Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her father, are her husband, Joseph H. Slawter; one daughter, Autumn Jo Slawter, at home; three brothers, Paul Jay Dolly and wife, Katrina, Keyser, Mathew Todd Dolly and wife, Daphne, Ridgeley, and Randall Lee Dolly and wife, Lisa, Keyser; five nieces and nephews, Courtney LeAnn Dolly, Rebecca Lynn Dolly, Brandy Marie Dolly, Garrett Michael Dolly, and Dalton Mathew Dolly.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Joint funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Blair officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
BETTY DAY SMITH
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Betty Day Smith, age 78, of Petersburg, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at the Grant County Nursing Home where she had resided since Jan. 21, 1998.
Born May 12, 1919, at Arthur, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe C. and Estella (Parker) Day. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were two sisters, Mildred Kessel and Merle Day; and two brothers, Dwight Day and Brimlow Day.
She graduated from Petersburg High School in 1937 and was a graduate of Fairmont State College. She received her master's degree in Elementary Education from West Virginia University. She taught school in Grant County for 37 years. She was a member of the Grant County Association of Retired School Employees.
She was a member of the Grove Street United Methodist Church, the Petersburg Garden Club, the Tri-County Artists' Guild, and the Grant County Arts Council.
On Aug. 28, 1946, she married
Reggie A. Smith, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Gregg A. Smith, Montrose; two granddaughters, Lauren B. Smith and Christina B. Smith; two sisters, Marie Day Pope, and Evelyn Day Henderson, both of Petersburg; several nieces and nephews, including Peggy Sites, Petersburg.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Grove Street United Methodist Church on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.
Memorials may be made to Grove Street United Methodist Church, or to the charity of one's choice.
CATHERINE V. "KITTY" SMITH
GREEN SPRING, W.Va. - Catherine Virginia "Kitty" Smith, 71, of Green Spring, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
Born March 18, 1927, in Green Spring, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Ella Lewis. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Baker Smith, in July 1977; four brothers; and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Ronald "Gig" L. Smith, Green Spring; one daughter, Linda S. Platt, Cumberland, Md.; one sister, Dorothy "Dot" Mills, Morgantown; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral will be at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William H. Bice officiating.
GLADYS SMITH
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Gladys Smith, age 56, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Jan. 7, 1942, in Harts, W.Va., she was the daughter of Troy Tomblin and the late Nettie Dalton Tomblin of Harts. She was a member of the Hayes Burton Free Will Baptist Church of Mud Fork, W.Va.
Surviving are her husband, Farnia Carl Smith, of Ridgeley; one son, Joseph Carl Smith and his wife, Paula Jo Smith, Green Spring, W.Va.; and her Grand-Babies, Joseph Daniel Smith, Sarah Elizabeth Smith, Jacquelyn Diane Smith and Chayton Kyle Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Riley Evans Funeral Home of Chapmanville, W.Va. 25508. Viewing will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m., and the burial will be Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Tomblin Family cemetery.

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Lena Irene Smith, 78, of Fort Ashby, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, has gone home to be with her Savior and Lord on Nov. 14, 1998. She was a saint on Earth, and now she will be a saint in heaven.
Born March 23, 1920, in Cumberland, Md., on a C&O; Canal boat, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Myrtle Twigg Rockwell.
Our mother was a wonderful homemaker and wife. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 60 years, Harold V. Smith Sr., Fort Ashby; and nine children, Patricia Lowell and husband, Robert, Strasburg, Va.; Corrine Heare and husband, Gavin, Romney; Barbara Riggleman and husband, Kenneth, Fort Ashby; Reverend Harold V. Smith Jr. and wife, Patricia, Baltimore; Wesley Smith, Fort Ashby; F. David Smith and wife, Sharon, Fort Ashby; R. Jeffrey Smith and wife Sally, Fort Ashby; Karen Brown and husband, Tom, Fort Ashby; and Kim Paulus, Cumberland. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles E. "Pete" Rockwell and William T. "Bill" Rockwell, both of Baltimore; two sisters, Emma Vinker, Baltimore; Velva Mae Rank, Philadelphia, Pa.; and step-brothers and sisters, Edward Rockwell, Maryland; Harold Rockwell, Baltimore; Charles W. Rockwell, Ohio; Patricia Whaley and husband, Alfred, Tennessee; Virginia Evans and husband, Ray, West Virginia; and Suetta Gaither and husband, Joseph, Cumberland. In addition, she is survived by 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two infants; two sisters, Kathleen Hockaday Elliott and Myrtle Fansler; and one great-grandchild, Brittani Groese.
Our mother's life radiated the love and kindness of our Lord. She was a member of the Bethel Tabernacle Assembly of God, Patterson Creek, W.Va., for the past 48 years. For 37 years, she has faithfully served the Lord as a teacher in the nursery and beginner Sunday School classes. Our mother was a prayer warrior for God, and she humbly served God in both word and deed. She set an example for others, and her loving spirit and gentle nature serve as a lasting testimony of her love for God, family and church.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc. in Fort Ashby, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Bethel Tabernacle Assembly of God, Patterson Creek, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Darrell Tichinel officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service time when family and friends will be received.
Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

LETHA G. SMITH
HOMOSASSA, Fla. - Letha Gibson Smith, 89, of Homosassa, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, after a short illness.
She was born and raised in Buckhannon, W.Va. She was a retired school teacher, a member of the Eastern Star 319 of Homosassa, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa.
She was the widow of Edgar Anderson Smith. They had been married
64 years.
Surviving are a son, Karl A. Smith; four grandchildren, David A. Smith, Edward K. Smith, Sarah L. Smith and Samuel L. Smith; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, 8831 W. Bradshaw, Homosassa, FL 34448.
Services will be held in Homosassa Nov. 28, 1998.
MADELINE M. SMITH
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Madeline Marie Smith, 72, of Elk Garden, died Friday, April 4, 1998, in the Winchester Medical Center.
Born Oct. 15, 1925, in Coketon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Teresa (Massi) Del Signore.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Smith; two sons, Charles K. Smith Jr., Keyser, and Michael J. Smith, Elk Garden; two daughters, Charlene Junkins, Keyser, and Linda Coffman, Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Julia Stakem, Baltimore, and Gilda Del Dignore, Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, Md., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Byron Mayberry and the Rev. Joe Gerstell officiating.
