PAUL VIRGEL WATSON
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Paul Virgel Watson, 93, of Romney, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Hampshire Health Care Center, Romney.
He was born June 7, 1904, in Slanesville, W.Va., the son of the late Jethro Scott and Augusta Isabel (Offutt) Watson. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine R. (Radcliffe) Watson on July 12, 1991; and three brothers.

Mr. Watson taught school for five years in Hampshire County and was a member of Pioneer Teachers Inc. He graduated from Shepherd College in 1924 and became a member of their Emeritus Club in 1974. He also was a member of AARP and Senior Citizens of Romney. During his career in the wholesale and retail gasoline business in Keyser, W.Va., Mr. Watson worked for Gulf Oil Corporation as a clerk, auditor and plant manager. Mr. Watson retired in 1965.

Mr. Watson was a member of the Romney First United Methodist Church, a member of Clinton Lodge No. 86 A.F. & A.M., Romney, for 72 years. He served a partial term as Clerk of the Hampshire County Circuit Court and was a Republican Justice of the Peace in Romney for nearly six years.

He is survived by two sons, Dr. Paul V. Watson, Jr., Ocean Springs, Miss., and James H. Watson, Tampa, Fla.; one foster-brother, J. Brooke Shanholtzer, Augusta, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, from 7 to 9 p.m.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at 11 a.m. at the Indian Mound cemetery, Romney, with the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon officiating. Clinton Lodge No. 86 A.F. & A.M. will conduct graveside services.

Interment will be in Indian Mound cemetery, Romney.

The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to the Clinton Lodge No. 86 A.F. & A.M. Memorial Fund in care of John Timbrook, HC 79, Box 29, Romney, WV 26757.

MARY KATHERINE HARE WEAKLEY
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Mary Katherine (Miller) Hare Weakley, 85, of Route 1, Ridgeley, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 11, 1912, in Paw Paw, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Harrison Miller and Anna Marie (Steckman) Miller Sniveley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Issacc J. Weakley; three brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Weakley was a homemaker.

Surviving are two daughters, Agnes Marie (Straley) James, Fort Myers, Fla., Joan Elaine (Hare) DeWitt, Kingwood, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Margaret Joy (Boone) Twigg, Mount Savage; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

At Mrs. Weakley's request, she will be cremated.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Friday between 11 a.m. and noon. A memorial service will then be conducted at noon with Pastor Gary Butler officiating. Mrs. Weakley's cremains will be interred at a later date at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

The family requests contributions be made to Central Assembly of God, 2020 Bedford St., Cumberland, MD 21502; or to Graceland Baptist Church, Route 2, Ridgeley, WV 26753.

JOHN BRUCE WEIMER
MAYSVILLE, W.Va. - J. Bruce Weimer, 79, of Maysville, died Saturday, June 21, 1997, at Grant Memorial Hospital.
Born July 1, 1917, in Streby, he was the son of the late Oscar J. and Charlotte P. "Lottie" (Evans) Weimer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. (Smith) Weimer, February 1, 1997; two infant granddaughters; and one brother, Carl E. Weimer.

Bruce and his late brother, Carl, were co-owners of Weimer Brothers Store, Maysville, for several years. Bruce also had the John Deere dealership in Maysville for several years. Bruce was a farmer and a member of the Maysville Bible Brethren Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Stump and husband Ray, Maysville, and Betty Gainer and husband Joe, Harpers Ferry; three grandchildren, Calvin R. Stump III, Kelli Waldeck, and Joey Gainer; two great-granddaughters, Kelcie and Kara Waldeck; and two sisters, Zetta M. Gaffney, Rochester, N.Y., and Alberta R. Pearson, Jacksonville, N.C.; a special nephew, George Bruce Bowen, Maysville, and his son, Jason Bowen, Dover, Dela.; and several other nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be at the Maysville Bible Brethren Church on Monday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steve Raines officiating.

Interment will be in Maysville cemetery.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Maysville Bible Brethren Church.

DONNA V. WELCH
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Donna Virginia Welch, 77, of Elk Garden, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 25, 1919, in Elk Garden, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian (Dischong) Bray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. "Cliff" Welch and one brother, Paul Bray.

Surviving are one son, Thomas R. Dale, Elk Garden; three grandsons, Stephen Dale and wife, Lisa, Charlotte, N.C.; Thomas B. Dale and wife, Shellie, Elk Garden; James R. Dale, Morgantown, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Dale Anne Tuel and husband, Richard, Elk Garden and four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Tuel and Laci Dale, both of Elk Garden; Alyssa and Zachary Dale, Charlotte, N.C.

Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services.

Services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Nethken Hill Methodist Church with the Rev. James Mou officiating.

Interment will be at the IOOF cemetery, Elk Garden.

ELSIE L. WELLS
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Elsie Leona Wells, 73, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at her residence.
Born Feb. 19, 1924, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Sloan and Agnes (Twigg) Hoadley.

Mrs. Wells retired in 1986 with 30 years service from the Continental Construction Co. She had been a forklift operator. She was Lutheran by faith. She was a member of the United Steel Workers Union and the AARP.

Survivors include her son, Sean Allen Pusaperi, Fort Ashby; one daughter, Sandy Haines, Baltimore; three sisters, Linda Addair, with whom she resided, Maxine Swauger, Hagerstown, and Frances Myers, Cumberland; and two nieces, LaRita Henry, Ridgeley, and Robin Addair, Delaware.

Visitation will be at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, March 16, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Harold W. Crabtree officiating.

Interment will be in the Mount Herman cemetery.

ALBERT L. WERTMAN
KEYSER, W.Va. - Albert L. Wertman, 78, a resident of the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home and formerly of the Cut-Off Road, Keyser, died Monday, March 3, 1997, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born June 5, 1918, in Keyser, he was the son of the late Ira and Lottie (Crites) Wertman. He also was preceded in death by one son, Gladson D. Wertman and one brother, Ernest Wertman.

Mr. Wertman was a retired carman for the Chessie System. He was a member of the Keyser Assembly of God Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America.

Surviving are his wife, Eula M. (Snyder) Wertman, a resident of Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home; one daughter, Virginia L. Umstot and husband, Keith, Keyser; five sons, James E. Koontz and wife, Marlene, Keyser; Marshall W. Koontz and wife, Ruby, Scottsville, Va.; Lawrence N. Koontz and wife, Juanita, Clarksville, Tenn.; Ronald K. Wertman and wife, Carolyn, Peterstown, W.Va.; Douglas D. Wertman and wife, Ann, Ashland, Va.; one brother, Harry Wertman, LaVale; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Pastor George Keenan officiating. Interment will be at the Duling cemetery, Keyser.

ORA E. WESTROM
BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Ora E. Westrom, 83, of HC 84, Box 32, Burlington, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at Kokomo, Ind.
Born on Dec. 16, 1913, at Union, Mont., she was a daughter of the late Frank Allen and Lottie (Anderson) Eaton. She also was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Walter E. Westrom, on Jan. 26, 1986; a brother, Cecil Eaton; a half-sister, Pat Travis; and a half-brother, Alfred Colby.

Mrs. Westrom retired from nursing after having served as a registered nurse for 43 years. From 1967 until the time of her retirement she served patients of the Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney, W.Va., and the Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, W.Va. She was a graduate of Glendive High School, Montana, and the Mayo School of Nursing, Rochester, Minn. She was a member of the Romney Church of the Brethren, Romney. Mrs. Westrom was a past president of the District Women's Fellowship and served on the District Nurture Commission. She also served as pianist and Sunday School teacher as needed at her church; was co-instructor of a District Reading Course for patients; was a member of the Heartland Auxiliary for many years; and assisted with the Book Mobile for the District Library.

She is survived by three sons, W. David Westrom, Burlington, Joseph V. Westrom, Kokomo, and Paul A. Westrom, Burlington; one daughter, Rebecca C. Howard, Kokomo; one sister, Francze Nordin, Whitefish, Mont.; two half-brothers, Jim Eaton and Jack Eaton, both of Montana; two half-sisters, Janice Krausz and Betty Huskinson, both of Montana; and eight grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Brian Moreland officiating. Interment will be in the Lahmansville cemetery, Lahmansville, W.Va.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Romney Church of the Brethren Building Fund, Romney, WV 26757.
