CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Bennett Lee "Benny" Williams, 83, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Shenandoah Health Village Center, Charles Town.
Born Dec. 23, 1916, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Ashby and Ethel Eugenia Kable Williams.
He was retired from United Starting Gate Company, Ranson, W.Va. and prior to that was employed at Powhatan Brass & Iron Company, Ranson and with B&O Railroad.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of V.F.W. Memorial Post 3522, Charles Town.
He is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Staubs of Charles Town; three stepdaughters, Marie W. Writt, a guest of Shenandoah Health Village Center, Betty M. Longerbeam of Charles Town, and Pat A. Walker of Uvilla, W.Va.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Wolf Magaha, who died May 25, 1996; a half-sister, Ora Wood; a brother, Raymond Williams. He was the last of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
William L. Richardson Sr.
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - William Lee Richardson, Sr., 53, of Falling Waters, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 8, 1946, in Bethesda, Md., he was the son of Ruby Thompson Schroeder of Takoma Park, Md., and the late George Richardson.
He was self-employed as a draftsman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Roski Richardson of Frederick, Md.; a daughter, Faith N. Richardson of Frederick; two sons, William Lee Richardson Jr. of Falling Waters and Timothy Matthew Richardson of Frederick; a sister, Wendy Kells of Rohrersville; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. at Crownsville Veterans cemetery, Crownsville, Md.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Evelyn V. Miller
GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. - Evelyn Virginia Franks Miller, 73, of Gerrardstown, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 16, 1926, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she as the daughter of the late David Henry and Alice Bertha Hite Franks.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Presbyterian faith.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Edward Clayton Miller; two sons, Bobby L. Miller and Ronald Eugene Miller, both of Gerrardstown; a sister, Oda Miller of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Harry Franks of Martinsburg; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy L. Stewart; a brother, Roy Franks; four half-brothers; four sisters, Ida Sign, Ruth Stotler, Lillian Markle and Marie Hovermale; a half-sister, and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. John Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mildred E. Deal
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Mildred Elizabeth Deal, 73, of Walnut Grove, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at her home.
Born Oct. 29, 1926, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Mary C. Ramey Dorsey Sr.
She was a graduate of Charles Town High School.
She retired as the cafeteria manager from Shepherdstown Elementary School in Shepherdstown, W.Va. She was the first cafeteria manager of the Jefferson County Board of Education. Earlier, she was the cafeteria manager of Flintstone Elementary School in Prince George's County, Md.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her former husband, Lee A. Deal Sr. of Oxon Hill, Md.; a daughter, Catherine A. Windsor of Charles Town; two sons, Lee A. Deal Jr. at home and Larry A. Deal of LaPlata, Md.; two sisters, Peggy Nichols of Shepherdstown and Frances L. Grandstaff of Luray, Va.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; an aunt; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Lynn Arnold Deal; a sister, Nellie Viands; and three brothers, Paul Dorsey Jr., C. Benny Dorsey and Harry Lee Dorsey.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. Pastor Keith McConnel will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery in Charles Town.

Clifford W. Thomas Sr.
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Clifford Wilson Thomas Sr., 83, of Charles Town, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born May 20, 1916, in Rippon, W.Va., he was the son of the late Franklin and Gertrude Payne Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia D. Hall Thomas.
He owned and trained thoroughbred race horses at Charles Town Race Track in Charles Town, and Maryland racetracks. Earlier, he worked as a groom at Charles Town and Maryland racetracks.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of Civilian Conservation Camp.
He is survived by three children, Clifford Thomas Jr. of Harrisburg, Pa., Willie Mae-D Oliver of Charles Town and Everett LeRoy Thomas at home; three sisters, Rosetta Thomas of Rippon, Elsie Hosby of Charles Town and Onetta Taylor of Jersey City, N.J.; a brother, Robert Thomas of Shepherdstown; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two children; five sisters, Glady, Grace, Mamie, Parthenia and Ollie; and five brothers, James Thomas, Ben Thomas, Allen Thomas, William Thomas and Ralph Thomas.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Lawrence Wilson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery in Gibsontown, W.Va.

Bessie E. Metz
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Bessie Ellen Metz, 89, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born Sept. 21, 1910, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John William and Edith Grace Culp Walls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory J. Metz, in 1980.
She attended public schools in Morgan County, W.Va.
She worked at Interwoven Hosiery Mill, The Pines Hospital and A.C. Unger Canning Factory, all in Berkeley Springs. She and her husband owned and operated Jimstown Grocery Store during the late 1940s and early 1950s. She had been a homemaker in recent years.
She attended Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church in Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by two daughters, Esther M. Phillips and June A. Moore, both of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Agnes Walls and Viola Perry, both of Berkeley Springs; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Dick, Beulah Mowery and Ada Walls; two brothers, Harry Walls and Alston Walls; and a grandson.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery in Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
